If you missed today's Serenade Radio edition of Steyn's Song of the Week, we are airing it here at SteynOnline for the very first time: This week's selection has been sung by everyone from Ella Fitzgerald to Carly Simon via, of course, Frank Sinatra, who played a most consequential role in its creator's fortunes. But it started out in a crackerjack Jimmy Cagney/Joan Blondell picture, and the story of its author - a classically-minded Scandinavian Lutheran who became a jazzy New York Jew - is one of the strangest in popular music. One of the least discussed aspects of the interview with President Joe Biden last night was his declaration that two of the nine justices are not long for the Court. The question is which two are facing retirement or the reaper. In arguing for his remaining as the nominee despite record low polling, the President told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos with certainty that the next president “in going to appoint at least two new appointees.”That must be uneasy news for the relatively small court that almost of a third will soon pass . . . one way or another.Liberals have been pushing...

President Biden riled voters during a series of campaign stops in Pennsylvania on Sunday, attempting to shake off concerns among some Democrats that he isn’t up for a second term. “Dark Brandon is coming back,” he joked to one supporter in Harrisburg who asked him about the meme, one that developed into a unifying force to fight off concerns about Biden’s age early in his campaign. While he faces increasing calls from members of Congress to leave the campaign after a faltering debate performance last month, Biden said he hasn’t seen the same response from voters.

The committee is investigating if Dr. Kevin O’Connor’s involvement in the Biden family’s financial activities influenced his medical assessments of Joe Biden. In light of recent concerns surrounding Joe Biden’s health, House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is calling on President Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, to testify about his medical assessments of Joe Biden and his private business dealings with the Biden family. Dr. O’Connor has been Biden’s official physician since he took office in January 2021 and is in daily contact with Biden. Biden’s poor health has been particularly scrutinized ever since Special Counsel...

Joe Biden appears to be in a free fall in the polls, yet he appears unwilling to drop out of the presidential race. His campaign, the White House, and the Democratic Party are all in chaos. If Biden won't leave, what is the party to do? If "Plan B" is replacing Biden and he won't go, a left-wing scholar is advocating a "Plan C" to save the president's floundering campaign. Supporters of this plan suggest a straightforward strategy to counter Trump’s growing campaign momentum: replace Vice President Kamala Harris with former President Barack Obama. “A Biden-Obama ticket would have a...

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff has tested positive for COVID-19 after experiencing mild symptoms, his office announced Sunday, but his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris, has tested negative and remains asymptomatic. Emhoff spokesperson Liza Acevedo said in a statement that the second gentleman “is fully vaccinated and three times boosted” and that he is “currently asymptomatic, continuing to work remotely, and remaining away from others at home.” Acevedo said Harris was tested for COVID on Saturday “out of an abundance of caution” and the result was negative. She is scheduled to campaign in Las Vegas for President Joe Biden ‘s reelection...

Russia's economy has defied sanctions in the two years since Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022 — so much so that the World Bank is now classifying Russia as a "high-income country." On Monday, the World Bank announced it has upgraded Russia from an upper-middle-income country to a high-income country, according to a report from the financial institution's economists. "Economic activity in Russia was influenced by a large increase in military-related activity in 2023," World Bank economists wrote in their report. Russia's trade jumped by nearly 7% last year, while activities in the financial sector and construction grew by 6.6%...

President, aides grapple with accusations they strongly reject that they were not candid with the public about how his age affected his ability to do the job. When special counsel Robert K. Hur concluded in a February report that President Biden should not be prosecuted for mishandling classified documents in part because a jury would view the president as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” Biden and his aides hit back hard. The 81-year-old president called an impromptu news conference where he angrily denied that he was forgetful. “I’m well-meaning and I’m an elderly man and I know...

Conservative Champion Viktor Orbán is a man with deep-rooted convictions and opinions. And he has the fortitude to express them in a very frank and direct way. So, today, the Hungarian Prime Minister takes on the rotating presidency of the European Union, an entity he once described as ‘the contemporary parody version of the Soviet Union’. He did it his own way – clashing with Brussels every step of the way on a host of issues. He rejected unchecked mass migration, the crippling ‘green policies’ and – of course – the blind backing of Ukraine in the war and the...

A family in Concord, New Hampshire, is at a loss of what to do about a growing homeless encampment that is directly behind their historic house. Robin Bach and her husband have worked hard to restore their 19th century Walker residence for their children, ages 8 and 11, to enjoy for years to come, the Concord Monitor reported Saturday. However, there is an expanding homeless encampment in the woods on their property that has given them cause for concern because no one seems to know who is responsible for it. Bach said her children are afraid to play outside and...

“Fox News Sunday” host Shannon Bream claimed Sunday she could not find any Democrat willing to come on her show to defend President Joe Biden and his “decision to stay on the ticket.” Following Biden’s poor performance during the first 2024 presidential debate June 27, Democrats and establishment media commentators have distanced themselves from Biden amid increased calls for the president to drop his reelection bid. Guest post by Jeffery Rainforth I got to the border in Jacumba, California, almost 3 weeks ago. I’ve been camping right where the Border Patrol picks up large groups in the early morning hours. Shortly after I arrived, I had encountered about 5 large groups of illegal aliens. Like Lukeville, AZ, where I spent 7 weeks camped out from Oct. to Dec. in 2023, this place has people coming in illegally from around the world. In Lukeville, about half of the illegals were from Islamic-majority nations in Africa. In Jacumba, what I’m seeing is that a large number of the...

With just four months until the presidential election, Democrats scramble to decide if they should replace President Joe Biden with a different candidate on their ticket in November. After the 81-year-old stumbled, mumbled and blank-stared his way through his debate with Donald Trump in Atlanta last month, Democrats are concerned about his mental fitness and viability as a candidate. The Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois is August 19-22 and will conclude with the party choosing its nominee for 2024. It's now unclear if that will still be Biden. Some names being floated as his replacement are California Gov. Gavin...

Nicknamed Bonzo, John Bonham is considered to be one of the greatest rock drummers of all time (via John Bonham). His love for drumming was evident early on and as a child, he would use household items to bang on. By the time he was a young adult, Bonham had gained a reputation for being one of the best drummers in his hometown of Redditch, England. Playing in several bands, he eventually met Robert Plant, who would later become the lead singer of Led Zeppelin. In late the 1960s, Jimmy Page, (who was formerly the lead guitarist for The...
