Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis didn’t save the Republican Party after all, or America for that matter. Two days before the New Hampshire primary election, DeSantis suspended his campaign for president on Sunday. As he exited, he endorsed former President Donald J. Trump. Of course, he had no choice. The Florida governor tried to sell voters the idea that he’s just like Trump, but more electable, more reasonable — but also more conservative. That didn’t work because, in the end, DeSantis’ brand wouldn’t exist without MAGA. Read more at: https://www.miamiherald.com/opinion/editorials/article284389660.html#storylink=cpy

[Catholic Caucus] Opinion: The real problem with the Pope’s remarks about hellThere is a real and necessary responsibility that comes with the Petrine office, and it’s irresponsible to toss out personal opinions in a way that is confusing and lacking vital context.Let’s pretend.Let’s pretend that the Pope said this the other night:We don’t even have to wonder what the reaction would be, do we?But…that’s just his personal opinion! That’s not the teaching of the Church! Sure, some theologians have held that and there’s plenty within Scripture and Tradition that might support such a view, but that’s not official Church teaching!...

Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY), a surrogate for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), said on this week’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday” that former President Donald Trump’s multiple indictments would “ripen into convictions.” Massie said, “You know, the main thing I hear from people back home is there mad that nobody’s held accountable in Washington DC. I think we need to hold Trump accountable. snip The lawsuit itself is ridiculous, but the underlying facts aren’t disputed, and I think people are going to kind of recoil from that when all that stuff starts coming out this summer. And the polls that show...

People with a liking for white furniture. Children in designer wear. Social media hotel-gym reviewers called things like Brianna. People who eat at Nobu on a non-ironic basis. Paulo Coelho readers. There is a prejudice about the crowd that Dubai attracts. I won’t pretend, during a trip here this week, not to have seen them at all. But the visit has been a better education in global affairs than was available in Davos over the same time. A landlocked town in a landlocked nation is a damn fool place to host the World Economic Forum. As the Houthis are giving...

America cannot survive another four years of Joe Biden. Recent polling posted at Real Clear Politics confirms that a Trump-Robert Kennedy, Jr. ticket would win over 60% of the vote. Joe Biden would be a distant second and would suffer the historic loss he deserves. Today, America is at a crossroads. There is only one man who can lead us back to our foundation, to law and order, to a rational foreign policy, to a thriving country that respects its border. If President Trump needs to take on Robert Kennedy, Jr. to ensure a united win in November, then he...

The Supreme Court and the Constitution Some background may help you understand why a radio show aired before I was born caused me to share it with folks who may have no interest. I amuse myself by listening to the radio shows we listened to before television. I discovered that many of the old radio shows I enjoyed were available on the Internet. Shows like The Shadow, Inner Sanctum, Mysterious Traveler, and many more. Additional enjoyment came from discovering the radio shows that I didn’t know about or wasn’t interested in. This is from a 1936 America Town Meeting on...

President Donald Trump has announced that he is officially retiring the moniker ‘Ron DeSanctimonious’ that he had previously used for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Former President Donald Trump first used the nickname “Ron DeSanctimonious” for Ron DeSantis on November 5, 2022, three days before the midterm. This occurred during a rally in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where Trump was stumping for Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano and Senate candidate Mehmet Oz. He mentioned this nickname while discussing his standing in the polls for the potential 2024 Republican primary nomination.

In their crystal ball analysis of major developed bond markets (sorry, Japan, you’re not in the spotlight this time), Goldman Sachs is waving the flag of concern. The math here is simple: for every one percentage point rise in the public debt-to-GDP ratio, expect medium-term yields to jump at least two basis points throughout the decade. And oh, they conveniently exclude government bonds currently cozying up in central banks’ pockets, implying a broader impact on global financial markets.

A recent study by Consumer Reports, in collaboration with The Markup, has unveiled the extensive scale of data tracking aimed at Facebook users. Some users in the study were tracked by as many as 7,000 companies. A recent study from Consumer Reports engaged 709 volunteers who provided archives of their Facebook user data. Astonishingly, Consumer Reports discovered that 186,892 different companies transmitted data about these users to Facebook. On average, data from each participant was shared by 2,230 companies, with some users’ data being shared by over 7,000 companies. This examination highlighted a lesser-known form of tracking known as server-to-server...

Ron DeSantis had given up on New Hampshire, turning his campaign towards the more conservative state of South Carolina. But on Saturday, he was given internal polling data that showed he had no chance of winning the state and would finish far behind former President Donald Trump, according to two sources familiar with discussions. His aides canceled appearances on the Sunday morning shows as they debated what to do next. And on Sunday afternoon, the Florida governor formally pulled the plug on his 2024 campaign. 'I can't ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources, if we...

Harrowing footage shows a 89-year-old grandmother suffering from dementia being abused by four cruel carers after her family became suspicious of bruises on her body and hid a secret camera in her bedroom. Sisters Danielle and Rebecca Hinsley unwittingly captured footage that 'broke our hearts' after becoming concerned when their grandmother Beryl Wall's behaviour changed and she was left with injuries to her body. The pair complained to staff at the Wolverhampton care home in February 2020 but were left dissatisfied with the response so took matters into their own hands. Ms Wall's granddaughters put a Yi Eye Wi-Fi camera...

TOKYO -- The pole of the world is shifting, though swingingly, from north to south due to the rise of emerging countries collectively called the Global South. The shift can upset conventional wisdom in the international community, but it is hardly smooth. Senior government officials from the Group of Seven leading economies and other countries such as India and Turkey secretly gathered in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh on Dec. 16 last year for informal talks on a peace plan for the Ukraine war. The plan was aimed at countering Russia, with participants supporting Ukraine's demand for an absolute...

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres harshly condemned the Israeli government Sunday for its conduct in the Israel-Hamas war, as the civilian death toll in Gaza surpasses 25,000. “Israel’s military operations have spread massive destruction and killed civilians on a scale unprecedented during my time as secretary-general,” Guterres said at a U.N. summit Sunday. He reiterated calls for an “immediate humanitarian cease-fire to relieve the suffering in Gaza, allow humanitarian aid to reach everyone in need, and facilitate the release of hostages, which should be immediate and unconditional.”

ROME, Italy — Pope Francis once again voiced his concern for Europe’s demographic winter on Saturday, urging Italians to have more children. “I am worried about the low birth rate,” the pontiff told an Italian association of local politicians. “There is a culture of depopulation that comes from the fact that few children are born.” “It is true, anyone can have a dog, it is true: but we need children,” he continued. “In Italy, Spain … there is a need for children.”

If you want to seek a redress of some grievance, most people start with a lawsuit. This is partially responsible for the fact that in 2023 there are 1.33 million attorneys in America and only 1.08 million doctors. What happens when people figure out how to use these lawsuits not just for a redress of grievance but to attack others? Take, for example, the case of Acheson Hotels, LLC v. Laufer. In this case, Acheson Hotels claims that Deborah Laufer filed a lawsuit against them not because she was harmed by their hotel but because she is an activist using...

'Words or actions that are disrespectful, racist, discriminatory, hostile or harassing are not welcome and will not be tolerated,' the doctor says ... Milford Regional Medical Center’s announcement about rules for its "inclusive environment" caused a recent stir with a warning to potential patients that they must follow a specific code of conduct to access their services. Dr. Peter Smulowitz, chief medical officer at the Massachusetts medical center, had released a now-unlisted video on the hospital’s official YouTube channel Jan. 3 explaining how not just staff, but patients themselves, are held accountable for causing offense, ranging from rhetoric to a...

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky mocked former President Donald Trump’s insistence that Trump would end the war on day one of his presidency. “Donald Trump, I invite you to Ukraine, to Kyiv,” said Zelensky during an interview Friday with British Channel 4 News. ”So if you can stop the war during 24 hours, I think it will be enough to come.” Zelensky’s statements come has he continues to push U.S. Congress for additional funding of the war with Russia. Congress has already sent at least $113 billion to Ukraine since the start of its war with Russia in February of 2022....

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A Gainesville woman was arrested for repeatedly harassing a man she dated for two weeks. Alachua County deputies say 32-year-old Rachel Austin called law enforcement multiple times on the man to harass him. They say she also ordered pizza to his home, and sent Tinder dates to his apartment, twice. Santa Fe Police officers also got a call from Austin. They say she called under a fake name to accuse the man of sexual battery. Deputies say the fake name she used belongs to someone else she stalked. Austin was arrested on stalking charges on Jan....

A spokesperson for the Department of Defense has issued a statement regarding the footage that emerged earlier this month. The intriguing video, which shows a (supposedly cloaked) jellyfish-shaped object moving over a US military base, was captured on thermal imaging camera. It gained traction when UFO investigator Jeremy Corbell, who maintained that someone in the military had taken a great risk to get him the footage, shared it online earlier this month. "It goes over a body of water," he said at the time. "I'm told it stops on a dime, descends stiff into the water and for 17 minutes...
