Some presidential candidates struggle to nail their message. Ron DeSantis is struggling to nail his NAME. In the early days of his campaign, DeSantis has gone back and forth between pronouncing his name Dee-Santis and Deh-Santis. Why it matters: DeSantis' dissonance on how to say his name — for years an issue of confusion for his campaign teams — is a curiosity as many GOP leaders and donors wonder whether the Florida governor is ready for the scrutiny of a presidential campaign. What's happening: During his first week as a candidate, DeSantis pronounced his name "Dee-Santis" during: The video announcing...

This summer, Midpen is celebrating the initial purchase of lands that will become Midpen’s 27th open space preserve: Cloverdale Ranch, a unique ecological and agricultural jewel on the San Mateo County Coastside near the rural town of Pescadero. The lands, first protected by our nonprofit partner Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), contain large, intact coastal grasslands, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in North America. The property also has abundant water resources, both natural and human-made. Together, the natural habitat and plentiful water support a diverse community of native wildlife and plant communities, including grassland-dependent species such as American badgers,...

1. The current administration’s domestic social policies are so radical that they cannot be implemented (or disclosed) within a normal spectrum of law and government. Its plans require extra-constitutional authority. War provides that authority. 2. A formalized war footing with Russia is presumed an essential path to oil and gas supply disruption, both physical (exploration, production, and refinement, including Arctic claims) and price stability disruption, which presumably will accelerate green energy switching behavior (problem: there is nothing to switch to). In reality, war merely enriches oil and gas, and further consolidates its central energy role. 3. Financial flows, commercial/central banking,...

Shocking videos have laid bare America's $100billion-per-year shoplifting crisis, with brazen thieves strolling out of stores including Home Depot and Ross Dress for Less with their arms full of stolen goods. Surveillance footage shows a gang of crooks wearing masks wheeling shopping carts loaded with valuable products out of a Home Depot store in New York. Another clip showed shoplifters loading up duffel bags and backpacks with perfumes and colognes from a Ross store in Colorado. The National Retail Federation said that the scourge - which grew worse during the pandemic - cost the industry almost $100billion in 2022. One...

Twelve years ago, FBI agents in Baltimore sought to wiretap former Brookings Institution analyst Igor Danchenko on suspicions he was spying for Russia. But the counterintelligence analyst they were assigned to work with ‒ Brian Auten ‒ told them he could not find their target and assumed the Russian national had fled back to Moscow. But Danchenko had not left the U.S., court documents show. He was living in the Washington area. In fact, he had been arrested in Maryland in 2013 by federal Park Police for being drunk and disorderly, something the FBI analyst could have easily discovered by...

An immense catalog of photos from Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop were published Thursday on a new website, as the first son faces ongoing investigations into his overseas business affairs and potential tax and gun crimes. Nearly 10,000 photos taken between 2008 and 2019 will be hosted at BidenLaptopMedia.com after a former Trump White House aide apparently spent months scanning the digital archive, redacting some images and publishing the rest. “The number one thing we’re about … is truth and transparency,” Garrett Ziegler, who founded the nonprofit Marco Polo, told Fox News.

A coronavirus outbreak struck a recent CDC epidemiology conference, infecting at least 181 attendees, officials said. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's four-day Epidemic Intelligence Service Conference was held at an Atlanta hotel in late April, hosting 1,800 people in person. Of 1,443 attendees who responded to a post-event survey, 13% said they later tested positive for the coronavirus, according to findings released Friday. Among those who were infected, slightly more than half said they were unaware of any prior bouts with the virus.

More than three years into the pandemic, an overwhelming majority of Americans have some level of COVID-19 antibodies circulating in their bodies, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found in a new report. With the help of blood-donation centers, CDC scientists analyzed data from blood samples of about 143,000 Americans ages 16 and older from July through September 2022 and found that 96% of them contained antibodies to SARS-CoV-2. Previous data similarly collected between April and June 2021 showed that only 68% of blood samples contained COVID-19 antibodies. The CDC also found that the percentage of people...

President Biden has fallen on stage while handing out diplomas to Air Force Academy cadets in Colorado. The 80-year-old commander-in-chief stumbled and fell to his knees and then got back up during the graduation ceremony in an incident likely to spark more concerns about his age as the nation's oldest president seeks a second term. He was assisted by Air Force officials when he fell to the ground. The president then walked away without help and appeared to point to a sandbag on the stage that he appeared to trip over. 'He's fine,' White House Communications Director Ben LaBolt tweeted...

The debate over the origins of the coronavirus has largely been conducted in the West, despite the fact that the pathogen originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Chinese authorities have officially maintained a vague stance, meant largely to deflect criticism. Meanwhile, scientists who may hold clues to how the pandemic began — likely sometime in late 2019 — appear to have been silenced. That changed ever so slightly this week, when George Gao, the former head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, offered his thoughts on the contentious question to a BBC podcast.

President Donald Trump’s team is scouting for more political recruits to jump aboard the MAGA movement as the 2024 campaign season has started in earnest this year. “The forgotten men and women are the heart and soul of our incredible movement to Make America Great Again,” Team Trump’s account stated on Twitter. “The only force strong enough to defeat the massive corruption we are up against is you, the America[n] People.”The campaign website also added, “In order to restore the fabric of our glorious nation, we need every patriot to support our campaign and make your voices heard.”Volunteers for the...

Lessons from the battle against woke capitalAfter decades of corporate cheerleading, conservatives are learning a critical lesson: Big business is not your friend. In the past, Pride Month has come and gone with little pushback from the American right. The celebrations get larger and more explicit, companies switch to rainbow logos and issue statements of support, and a few weeks later, GOP politicians argue for the next round of corporate tax cuts. This year is different, however, as the rapid push to advance radical gender ideology onto children has awakened parents to the dangers of the trans movement, which has...

Anthony Bass set off a firestorm after sharing an anti-LGBTQ video this week, and Blue Jays fans let him have it during his first action since.Blue Jays relief pitcher Anthony Bass made his first appearance at Toronto's Rogers Centre since he set off a firestorm after sharing a video promoting anti-LGBTQ boycotts of companies like Target and Bud Light. The crowd, to put it lightly, was not all that fond of seeing the Jays reliever as he ran out of the pen toward the mound. Showering Bass with boos and jeers for essentially the whole half-inning he was out there,...
