Net interest payments on the national debt rose from $352 billion in 2021 to $475 billion in 2022 — the highest nominal dollar amount in recorded history. Relative to the size of the economy, such costs were 1.9 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), the highest level in 21 years.Much of that increase was due to higher interest rates on U.S. Treasury securities. Although borrowing rose sharply over the past few years to address the COVID-19 pandemic, interest costs were muted as a result of low interest rates. However, as inflation rose to a 40-year high in 2022, the Federal...

Democratic North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper declared a “state of emergency” on Monday in an attempt to stop the state legislature from passing a school choice bill. Cooper released a video announcement in which he declared a state of emergency, arguing that the state of public education is “no less important” than other emergencies. “It’s time to declare a state of emergency for public education in North Carolina. There’s no executive order like with a hurricane or the pandemic, but it’s no less important,” Cooper said. He continued, “It’s clear that the Republican legislature is aiming to choke the life...

The unhinged Manhattan college professor who went viral for cursing out anti-abortion students shockingly held a machete to a Post reporter’s neck Tuesday — and made wild threats that she was going to “chop” him up. Shellyne Rodriguez spewed the menacing remarks when The Post knocked on the door of her Bronx apartment Tuesday morning — a day after she made headlines for flipping out on pro-life students at Hunter College. “Get the - away from my door, or I’m gonna chop you up with this machete!” the manic adjunct art professor shouted from behind her closed door just moments...

Abprallen, a brand out of the United Kingdom and headed by a self-proclaimed gay, transgender man known as Erik, per the website, has had a collaboration in the works with the retailer for roughly a year. Among Abprallen's other apparel are images of pentagrams, horned skulls, and references to devils. "Satan...

The head of the World Health Organization warned that the world must prepare for the next pandemic, which could be “even deadlier” than the COVID-19 pandemic. In a meeting of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday, director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus sounded an alarm that the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over. “The threat of another variant emerging that causes new surges of disease and death remains,” Dr. Tedros said. “And the threat of another pathogen emerging with even deadlier potential remains.” “When the next pandemic comes knocking — and it will — we must be ready...

The woman accused of drunkenly mowing down new bride Samantha Hutchinson on her wedding night got special treatment in jail — even while whining about not getting an exercise mat to do crunches. Jamie Lee Komoroski, 25, has been allowed to have in-person visits from her family thanks to a helping hand from Sheriff Kristin Graziano — even though the policy at South Carolina’s Charleston County jail is to only allow online video chats, officials confirmed to The Post on Monday. Graziano even met with Komoroski at one point, with the suspect telling her boyfriend in a call from jail...

New Zealand honey producers have lost their latest battle against Australian beekeepers to trademark the name manuka. In a decision published on Monday (May 22), the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand ruled that the term manuka honey cannot be registered as a certification mark in New Zealand. The certification mark was sought by New Zealand's Manuka Honey Appellation Society (MHAS). But the Australian Manuka Honey Association opposed the move, arguing that the word manuka honey is not sufficiently distinctive to be registered as a certification mark in New Zealand.

The Malay rulers had decided that the word "Allah" cannot be used by non-Muslims in the Peninsula while conditional usage is allowed in the Borneo states of Sabah and Sarawak.Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Tuesday (May 23) that the government will streamline conflicting regulations regarding the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims. This is so that the regulations will be in line with the Malay rulers’ earlier decision that “Allah” cannot be used by non-Muslims in the Peninsula while conditional use is permitted for non-Muslims in the Borneo states. “What needs to be done … is for...

A recent $5 million defamation verdict hasn’t kept Donald Trump quiet. Will a stern warning from the judge in his Manhattan criminal case? That’s the question looming over a hybrid hearing Tuesday where the former president is set be instructed on new rules barring him from using evidence in the hush-money case to attack witnesses who could testify against him. Trump won’t have to show up to court for the afternoon hearing at a Manhattan courthouse, avoiding the mammoth security and logistical challenges that accompanied his arraignment last month. Instead, the Republican will be connected by video conference, with his...

Upon further investigation, the New Jersey resident saw two holes in the ceiling. It appeared that the stone had struck the floor with such great force that it rebounded and punched a second hole before landing back.

On Monday, Texas lawmakers passed a bill to end Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs at state colleges and universities. If the bill were to become law, it would be the second state in the nation with such legislation, following Florida. According to The Hill, the measure requires the governors of each state university to ensure that there is no DEI office at the school and that preferential treatment is not given for “diversity hires.” “Conservatives began this session by recognizing this simple truth: Texas has allowed leftist to infiltrate our universities for far too long,” Republican state Rep. Tony...

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis blasted President Biden’s support of vaccine mandates over the weekend by playing off former President Donald Trump’s accelerated push for a COVID-19 jab. Addressing the Florida Family Policy Council on Saturday, DeSantis asserted that vaccine mandates were an egregious violation of individual rights. “The way they weaponized these COVID vaxes was a massive incursion into our freedoms,” the governor said. “They wanted to deny people the right to put food on their table if they didn’t bend the knee and get a COVID shot that they may not have wanted and that many of them did...

Biden’s Border crisis is a national nightmare. I cannot imagine the long-term impact of his malicious negligence. But one thing occurred to me regarding our need to get a handle on what is going on and who is coming in and what they are. According to the Selective Service System Web site, undocumented aliens, asylum seekers, etc., are required by law to register with Selective Service: “Immigrants “U.S. immigrants are required by law to register with the Selective Service System 30 days after their 18th birthday or 30 days after entry into the United States if they are between the...

A bipartisan House duo has introduced a new immigration measure that would offer a pathway to citizenship for undocumented migrants in the U.S. while investing in border security. The bill comes on the heels of a GOP-passed House bill all but guaranteed to fail in the Senate, which places severe limits on asylum. Reps. María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) and Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) see their legislation as having a better chance for success that the hardline GOP bill, charging undocumented workers a “1.5 percent dignity levy” in taxes and other fees that will pay for both border security and job training...

Representative James Clyburn (D-SC) said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “José Díaz-Balart Reports” that President Joe Biden can invoke the 14th Amendment to end the debt ceiling stalemate if necessary. Clyburn said, “I don’t know how long it’s going to take. I think that we all recognize that Janet Yellen made it very clear to us that something needs to be done by June 1st. I think it will get done.” He continued, “What I am saying is I think we ought to stop playing chicken and recognize the realities. 51-49, Republicans in the House, 51-49, Democrats in the Senate. Whatever we...

FIRST ON FOX – Some southern Target stores were forced by the corporation to move LGBTQ Pride merchandise away from the front of their locations after customer "outrage" to avoid a "Bud Light situation." Many Target locations across the country feature massive June Pride month displays on an annual basis, with items this year ranging from "tuck friendly" bathing suits for transgender people to mugs that say "gender fluid." But the retail juggernaut has been criticized by some conservatives for the displays, with children’s items particularly irking many customers. A Target insider told Fox News Digital that many locations, mostly...
