As China and Russia begin moving toward a closer relationship, American military and foreign policy experts have been keeping a watchful eye on Taiwan, likely the next staging area for a violent “reclamation” by a foreign power. The Ukraine War has left Russia exposed, with its military resources being drained and its soldiers dying at a far higher rate than would have been expected before the war started just over a year ago. However, a new partnership with China could tip the scales back in Russia’s favor. At the same time, we know that China was originally upset with Russia for their...

I did not attend CPAC 2023 this year for various reasons, mostly time and cost. Compared to Florida, Washington D.C. is prohibitively expensive, with fewer food and lodging options. Also, after two years of a popular, and well-received (not to mention warmer) event, I wasn’t interested in wasting energy, money, and time dealing with the cold, crime-ridden, and freedom-restricted swamp that is D.C.From attendee and news reports, my instincts were right, and apparently, others felt the same. The Washington Examiner unpacks the bad news for the Conservative Political Action Conference. The Conservative Political Action Conference’s return to the nation’s capital has...

Dave Roberts has created one of the creepiest attractions that can have ever existedMany of us dream of quitting our jobs to stay at home practising a weird hobby every day, and a taxidermist and horror-lover from south Wales has done just that. Father-of-two Dave Roberts opened his Morbitorium in 2018 in the house which neighbours his partner’s property in the quiet village of Pontywaun nestled between Cwmcarn and Crosskeys. He knocked through the wall to connect the two small houses and has stacked the building with curiosities he’s collected over the last decade to create what is surely one...

2nd Sunday of LentMatthew 17:1-9 Friends, today’s Gospel celebrates the Transfiguration.Christ came not just to make us nice people or morally upright folks, but rather to give us a share in his divine life, to make us denizens of heaven, people capable of living in that new environment. What gave the first Christians this conviction? The answer is the Resurrection—and the great anticipation of the Resurrection, which is the Transfiguration. This ordinary Jesus somehow became transformed, elevated, enhanced in his manner of being. The first thing we notice is that his appearance becomes more beautiful. These somewhat grubby bodies of ours...

A research team has discovered that sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) could reduce the risks of renal and respiratory diseases, including end-stage renal disease (ESRD), obstructive airway disease (OAD) and pneumonia in a retrospective cohort study. These studies provided novel real-world evidence that SGLT2i could confer extra-glycemic protection to patients with type 2 diabetes and potentially be a better alternative to an older class of glucose-lowering drugs, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP4i). SGLT2i are a new class of second-line glucose-lowering drugs for type 2 diabetes. However, it is not clear whether SGLT2i could provide better cardiorenal protection when compared to DPP4i....
