Russia is moving detained U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner to a penal colony, her lawyers said Wednesday, drawing a sharp rebuke from the White House. Griner, convicted for possession of a small quantity of cannabis oil and given a nine-year prison sentence, was transferred out of a detention center on Nov. 4, her legal team said. She "is now on her way to a penal colony," lawyers Maria Blagovolina and Alexander Boykov said in a statement. They said Russia generally sends notifications of transforming prisoners by mail, taking up to two weeks. "We do not have any information on her...

Tuesday’s election, despite a half-billion dollars in spending to convince Californians to legalizing sports gaming. Campaigns for the two competing measures flooded the airwaves with a constant barrage of attack ads, which some California political poll directors criticized for driving up opposition and confusing voters. The Associated Press called the contests, though official results will take longer. Proposition 26 would have allowed in-person sports betting at tribal casinos and horse racing tracks. Leaders of four of California’s most successful Native American tribes with gaming interests are the original proponents of Proposition 26, which would impose a 10% tax on sports...

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy declared victory on Tuesday saying that Republicans had secured enough seats to flip control of the U.S. House of Representatives. "I want to thank the millions of supporters across this country," said McCarthy, R-Calif. "It is clear we are going to take the House back." McCarthy told a throng of supporters at a victory party in Washington, D.C, that the feat was possible because of the diverse array of candidates Republicans had recruited this cycle. "If you believe in freedom, hard work and the American dream these results prove there is a place for you...

McConnell, Rove, & the RINOs lost New Hampshire, & their strategy may be working in Arizona. As Bolduc & Masters closed in on their opponents, McConnell's PAC pulled $ out of those races. They'd rather have a Democrat majority than a GOP one w/the likes of Masters & Bolduc.

. Lindsey Graham did a Radio interview tonight. He said it wasn’t a red wave, but he said both sides need to reach across the aisle and work together. The big news is he said he’s working on co-sponsoring legislation with Elizabeth Warren to put limits on Social Media companies. Elizabeth Warren?

On this date in 1641, one of Denmark’s most famous witches suffered at the stake. Maren Splid, Spliid, or Splids (English Wikipedia entry | Danish) remains a paradigmatic exemplar of the witch-hunt’s terrifying capacity to make magicians of anyone some neighbor might one day accuse. In Splids’s case, the neighbor was a competitor of her prosperous husband, a tailor in the Jutland town of Ribe; the commercial motive obviously suggests itself but one dismisses superstitious folly at one’s peril. Apparently Maren Splids had given him some nasty words a full 13 years before the trouble started and the neighbor nursed...

This summer, the House GOP Study Committee unveiled a budget plan that would raise eligibility age for Social Security and talked about reducing payments for the well-off. Folks, those are cuts - so it allowed Dems to run ads that GOP threatens Social Security I know seniors who vote on this issue because they’re not rich and they don’t have comfortable government or congressional pensions. The GOP doesnt talk about cutting foreign aid or military bases, only “entitlements” for middle class Americans Trump told them to stop that, but they didn’t listen In the modern , post - FDR America,...

A judge Tuesday evening rejected the RNC’s effort to extend voting hours in Maricopa County, Arizona by 3 hours after problems with vote tabulators created problems and led to long lines. The judge wasn’t buying the RNC’s argument that voters were denied their right to vote. For good measure, the judge says “The Doctrine of Laches applies.” There’s no way to do anything legally at this point, even if he agreed with the RNC. But he didn’t. — Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) November 9, 2022

NEWTOWN, Penn. — John Fetterman, the state lieutenant governor, has won Pennsylvania’s high-voltage race for an open Senate seat, defeating celebrity TV doctor Mehmet Oz, bringing an end to one of the nastiest and most expensive campaigns of the year as both parties treated it as a potential tipping point for control of the chamber. Fetterman will succeed Sen. Pat Toomey, a Republican who opted against seeking re-election.

GOP U.S. Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley is getting just 25.56% of the vote in King County. She needs at least 30% to have any chance to win state wide. 440,000 King County votes have been counted. There are 1.38 million King County registered voters - so, probably 500,000 to 600,000 more votes to count. King County stops counting votes around 9 PM on election night. If the election is close, they will keep counting, for weeks into the future!

As Oregon residents take to the polls today, one thing many will be deciding is whether the state will enact Measure 114, an extensive and unconstitutional gun control law that would become the most extensive anti-gun law in the nation, if passed. Now, as bad as Oregon is, this isn’t a done deal. In fact, polling suggests that voting on the measure is going to be tight. But the fact that it’s even a possibility–plus the fact that the state has passed a lot of other questionable laws, both gun-control related and otherwise–is leading some to vote on a different...
