Did SocialSecurity hurt the GOP tonight? Repubs have to stop trying to cut it. (and the ARE trying - with age raise and “means testing”)
Nov 8 2022 | Vanity

This summer, the House GOP Study Committee unveiled a budget plan that would raise eligibility age for Social Security and talked about reducing payments for the well-off. Folks, those are cuts - so it allowed Dems to run ads that GOP threatens Social Security

I know seniors who vote on this issue because they’re not rich and they don’t have comfortable government or congressional pensions.

The GOP doesnt talk about cutting foreign aid or military bases, only “entitlements” for middle class Americans

Trump told them to stop that, but they didn’t listen

In the modern , post - FDR America, a party that wants to scrimp on seniors while showering money on foreign countries, may have a hard time winning national elections

“At this point let it crash. Let’s get this over with.”

That’s the philosophy that will lose the GOP every election going forward

Ironic, since most GOP members of Congress voted FOR social security when FDR proposed it.

If trying to keep America solvent is what hurt the GOP, America has reached that tipping point where it really is finished.

I try to explain this to liberals, and they don’t care. As long as they get theirs beforehand.

Incumbent presidents basically always lose congressional seats at the midterms even when they are cognitive, the economy hasn’t gone to crap, and their approval ratings are above water. Social security had nothing to do with what has apparently happened tonight. The only explanation is cheating at a level that has never been seen previously.

Demographics is Destiny. This is not the same country it was in Reagan’s time.

People need to be reminded that it was the demonrats that passed the bill to tax SS income, along with the usual cabal of sycophant RINOs.

You don’t talk about cutting Social Security. You talk about reforming it so it’s safe for the future. Like you never talk about a tax increase. You talk about tax reform to make it more equitable. There is a reason the republican party has long been known as “the stupid party.”

If that is where we are at, America is lost.
I’m sorry.

Whether it falls fast and hard or slowly, it will fall.

Yes, we're closer to Brazil now than Reagan's America.

Social security has a lot wrong with it. But “let it crash” is not an acceptable option. People have been forced to pay into it. They deserve the payouts they’ve been promised.

New workers? Just don’t force them to pay SS and that will result in the winding down of the program

“If trying to keep America solvent is what hurt the GOP, America has reached that tipping point where it really is finished.”

The GOP voted to send $50 billion to Ukraine. They voted for $3 trillion to invade and occupy Iraq since 2003. They’re not trying to “keep America solvent”.
