Would someone please define "Neocon"? I can't quite figure it out based on the usage of the word here on FR. From what I can tell it seems to be anyone who doesn't think Putin is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I know it can't be that. Where did the term come from, and what exactly does it mean?

On Saturday, the Ukrainians hit the Kerch Strait Bridge, which leads from Russia to Crimea, with something—a missile, explosives planted by naval commandos, a truck laden with explosives. No one who knows is saying for sure.(snip)The tactical questions of how the Ukrainians pulled off this strike and of whether lasting damage has occurred are interesting and important but currently unresolvable publicly. What can, however, be more profitably discussed is what this tells us about where the Russia-Ukraine war is headed. “Battles are the principal milestones of secular history,” Winston Churchill wrote in his biography of the Duke of Marlborough. The...

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that it will publish COVID-19 cases and deaths on a weekly basis, marking a major shift in its reporting since the start of the pandemic. “To allow for additional reporting flexibility, reduce the reporting burden on states and jurisdictions, and maximize surveillance resources, CDC is moving to a weekly reporting cadence,” the federal agency said in a statement last week. Local and state health departments, under the new guidance, will have to report new COVID-19 deaths and cases to the CDC every week on Wednesdays. The new change will go...

Photos of Jeff Younger’s smiling twin boys are scattered throughout his comfortable brick home in the Dallas suburbs. Happy moments, frozen in time. Next to the back door, a jump rope and youth-size boxing headgear haven’t moved from the corner where they were tossed 13 months ago. Outside, a punching bag hangs silent from a sturdy shade tree towering over a yard once filled with the tap-tap-tap sound of little fists pounding canvas. Younger spent hours at a time in that space with his boys, James and Jude, who were 9 at the time, teaching them to wrestle and land...

Yesterday’s response revealed more than hypocrisy or even projection from Vladimir Putin — it revealed desperation. After the humiliation of the attack on the Kerch bridge, which Putin personally opened as a symbol of Russian permanence in Ukraine, Putin unleashed cruise missile attacks on cities across Ukraine overnight. Missiles struck as far from the front as Lviv, making it clear that this had no military value but instead was a terror attack on Ukrainians:(snip) Ahem. The Kerch bridge was and still is a legitimate military target, as it is a major line of communication for the Russian military. In fact,...

On Monday, state media published extensive reports claiming the missiles were designed to carry tactical nuclear weapons. These are small short-range weapons intended for use on the battlefield. Andrew Weissmann and his part in decades of criminal activities. We first heard about Andrew Weissmann during the Mueller Special Counsel. It was uncovered that Weissmann was at Hillary’s 2016 Inauguration [funeral] party. This made no sense to this former international audit executive. There are ethics practices in auditing that prevent partaking in audits where you have a conflict of interest, whether real or perceived. This guy Weissmann should never have been assigned to the Mueller team. Something was up. Some believe the Mueller gang was led by Weissmann. This gang deviated from standard practices or committed crimes over 130...

A plane full of migrants could be destined for Nantucket this week, according to officials on the upscale island. "For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power,” President Biden said of Vladimir Putin in March, a month after Russia’s second unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, in remarks the Washington Post called “the most defiant and aggressive speech about Russia by an American president since Ronald Reagan.” Biden’s staff, however, immediately backpedaled, saying, “the president’s point was that Putin cannot be allowed to exercise power over his neighbors or the region. He was not discussing Putin’s power in Russia or regime change.” Later, Biden himself dutifully resiled from regime change. (snip) Outsiders can assist in many ways, including augmenting dissidents’...

Love it or hate it, it's coming: The end of Daylight saving time. Yes, you'll need to get ready to "fall back." At 2 a.m. Pacific time on Sunday, Nov. 6, California residents will have to set their clocks back by one hour. That's happening again, even though in 2018, California voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 7, a ballot initiative that opened the door to permanently adopting daylight saving time. Prop. 7 gave state lawmakers the power to pass legislation making daylight saving time permanent. Less than a month later, Assemblyman Kansen Chu introduced AB 7, the Daylight Saving Time law...
