Priest Addresses Bishop Burbidge: “Not every papal act is guided by the Holy Spirit” Bishop Burbidge, referencing his spiritual fatherhood, offered a respectful challenge in his podcast of August 10th. While I am not one of his priests, his challenge is public, and many of the documents to which it refers are for the universal Church. I would like to take up the challenge. It regards the way a man receives an undesirable order from a superior. The case at hand refers to his own decree severely limiting the Latin Mass in his own diocese along with the directives of...

Vice President Kamala Harris sidestepped a question about who will be paying for the government's massive student loan handout program, and instead she opted to criticize the critics. Confronted by a Fox News producer with the fact that the government has yet to provide concrete information regarding where the money will come from, Harris did not even attempt to provide an answer to the question. "Well, let's start with this. First of all, a lot of the same people who are criticizing what we rightly did in following through on a commitment that we made to forgive student loan debt...

There’s a “smart” phone app that tells you when your jar of peanut butter is empty. How dumb can people be?By Daniel Alman (aka Dan from Squirrel Hill)August 29, 2022I’ve never actually owned a “smart” phone. And I guess this is one reason why. There is now an app that tells your “smart” phone when your jar of peanut better is empty. This article from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is from four years ago, but I just found about it now. It says:Even though no one can see you eating peanut butter off a spoon in the middle of the night, the jar’s...

Libreville (AFP) – African countries on Monday called for an end to a "climate injustice" saying the continent causes less than four percent of global CO2 emissions but pays one of the highest prices for global warming. Government officials, international organisations, NGOs and the private sector from more than 60 African nations attended Monday's opening of Africa Climate Week in Gabon's capital to prepare for the COP27 UN climate conference in Egypt in November. Host President Ali Bongo Ondimba told the gathering the continent has to speak with one voice and offer "concrete" proposals for COP27. "The time has come...

onald Scully gazes at his herd of 208 cows munching grass and clover in a verdant field, as a light breeze ruffles the stillness. “There is an enjoyment for me to come out and look and see how healthy and happy these cows are,” says Scully, 47, a third-generation dairy farmer. “Every single cow has her own personality, they’re all individuals.” The pastoral scene in Ballyheyland, a landscape of rolling hills in County Laois, is replicated across rural Ireland. Ireland has 7.3 million cattle, substantially outnumbering humans, and a long history with the animal stretching into myth, including the Cattle...

Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to the Red Roof Inn in DeWitt, New York, for a reported sex offense Tuesday morning. Russian cargo planes left Tehran 10 days ago with UAVs, some of which have already malfunctioned, U.S. and allied officials say Russian cargo planes have quietly picked up the first of scores of Iranian-made combat drones for use against Ukraine, U.S. officials said, in a move that underscores deepening ties between Moscow and Tehran while also highlighting Russia’s struggles to supply its overstretched military. But while the weapons could provide a significant boost for Russia’s war effort against Ukraine, the transfer has been marred by technical problems, security officials from the United States and an allied government said in interviews....

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden will deliver a prime-time address “on the continued battle for the soul of the nation” Thursday outside Independence Hall in Philadelphia, the White House announced Monday. Billed as a major address just over two months before the midterm elections, Biden, the White House said, will discuss how the nation’s standing in the world and its democracy are at stake. “He will talk about the progress we have made as a nation to protect our democracy, but how our rights and freedoms are still under attack,” the White House said. “And he will make clear...

While layoffs were near record lows in July, according to the Labor Department, headline-making cuts at some of the biggest companies — like Apple, Best Buy, Ford and Walmart in the last few weeks — might make you question the stability of your own job. Half of employers say they already have reduced overall headcount or have a plan in place to do so, according to PwC’s latest pulse survey of 722 U.S. executives in August. There’s not a ton you can do to keep your job from being eliminated, but there are a few ways to make the transition...

Arguing for keeping “presentism” out of history seems like a straightforward argument from an acknowledged history scholar, right? Wrong. Not these days. The president of the American Historical Association, James H. Sweet, published an essay last week arguing that scholars should bar “presentism” from history. Sweet’s column in the American Historical Association magazine, Perspectives on History, argued that “doing history with integrity requires us to interpret elements of the past not through the optics of the present but within the worlds of our historical actors.” Pretty basic stuff. Shortly thereafter, Sweet was mobbed by those who clearly didn’t like his...

Dr. Nicole Saphier questioned why the president was wearing a mask Monday while walking alone outside, after his own bout with the virus a month ago and with four COVID-19 vaccines under his belt. When arriving to tape a television segment about cars with Jay Leno at a Secret Service training facility in Beltsville, Maryland on Friday, Biden was seen walking to his motorcade wearing a black N-95 mask as an accessory to his navy blue suit and aviator sunglasses. Biden recovered from his own case of COVID in early August – after a rare rebound case. Less than 10...

This is a general heads up concerning the ATF. The ATF has been showing up at peoples homes asking them to turn in things like solvent cleaners, and forced reset triggers. The feds usually don't have a warrant but are asking people to "voluntarily" hand over the items. How do the feds know which homes to go to? Some people have suggested that the common denominator is that many of these people purchased items from GunBroker.com. GunBroker is like ebay for guns and gun related items. It's 100% legal and follows all state and federal laws. So how are the...

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Maryland man affiliated with the far-right Proud Boys extremist group was sentenced on Monday to more than four years in prison for storming the U.S. Capitol, where he encountered Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer as his armed security detail led the New York Democrat to safety. Joshua Pruitt, 40, was one of the few Capitol rioters to come face-to-face with a member of Congress during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack by a mob of Donald Trump supporters, according to federal prosecutors. “One look at Pruitt, and the leader of Senator Schumer’s security detail immediately saw the...

By this time two years from now, and probably quite a bit earlier than that, we will know the identity of the Republican presidential nominee for 2024. Most likely it will be Donald Trump. If he doesn’t wind up running, the nominee will probably be Florida governor Ron DeSantis, or possibly a potential candidate from the ranks of MAGA-friendly conservatives. We don’t know for sure what will happen. But we do know at least two pols who will emphatically not be raising hands with a running mate in Milwaukee in 2024: soon-to-be-former congresswoman Liz Cheney and term-limited Maryland governor Larry Hogan....

Former lawyer to President Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, said Monday on SiriusXM’s “Mornings With Zerlina” that Trump will not run for a second term because “he does not want to go up against” Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY). Cohen said, “I do not believe Trump is going to run. First of all, he knows that he can’t win the general election statistically, and his fragile ego will not allow him to be a two-time loser. I just want to be very clear on that.” He continued, “Second. I believe that if, in fact, that he runs, he is not just going...

Something has changed in the Mossad. And that something means the impending Iran nuclear deal will not likely end Israeli covert operations against Tehran. If at some point in the past, it was content to take orders from prime ministers and be included around the table next to the juggernaut IDF, the spy agency is now taking center stage more often and helping to shape policymakers’ views much more deeply. There was a brief moment when Yossi Cohen stepped down in June 2021 and was replaced by David Barnea, who would supposedly lower the clandestine agency’s profile, when some predicted...
