A Louisiana mother who was raped at 16 by a 30 year-old-man has been ordered to give up custody of their daughter - and pay him child support. Crysta Abelseth's life forever changed in 2005 after she accepted a ride home from John Barnes, now 46, when her friend decided to leave dinner early, Hammond local news station WBRZ's investigative team first reported. 'Instead of bringing me home, he brought me to his house. Once inside, he raped me on his leaving room couch,' Abelseth, 32, told the outlet. Overcome by trauma and unsure of what to do, Abelseth let...

For more than a year, Democratic lawmakers and like-minded advocates have pleaded with Joe Biden to create a “gun czar” to address the epidemic of violence. Each time, the president’s team pushed back with force, contending it has the perfect person already in place, someone with command over the issue and extraordinary access to the president himself. That person is Susan Rice. As director of the Domestic Policy Council, Rice leads a team of roughly a dozen staffers examining ways to push through modest gun reforms should Congress again falter, and explore new executive orders even if lawmakers succeed. Her...

The first flight scheduled to take asylum seekers from the UK to Rwanda on Tuesday has been cancelled after a last-minute legal battle. Up to seven people had been expected to be removed to the east African country. But the flight was stopped after an intervention from the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Home Secretary Priti Patel said she was “disappointed” but would not be deterred, and the “preparation for the next flight begins now”. Speaking about the development, Conservative commentator Mr Robinson said on GB News: “It’s shown the Government is toothless, they don’t have the power to...

Possibly the world’s biggest leak of methane has been discovered coming from a coalmine in Russia, which has been pouring out the carbon dioxide equivalent of five coal-fired power stations. About 90 tonnes an hour of methane were being released from the mine in January, when the gas was first traced to its source, according to data from GHGSat, a commercial satellite monitoring company based in Canada. Sustained over the course of a year, this would produce enough natural gas to power 2.4m homes. More recently, the mine appears to be leaking at a lower rate, of about a third...

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) and his Republican challenger, former NFL player Herschel Walker, are deadlocked in the Senate race in Georgia, while Gov. Brian Kemp (R) is leading his Democratic rival, Stacey Abrams, according to a new poll. The poll from Easter Carolina University’s Center for Survey Research found Warnock and Walker tied at 46 percent, while only 6 percent of voters remain undecided. Among Black voters, Warnock has a significant edge. Eighty-three percent said they support the Democratic incumbent, compared to only 7 percent who are backing Walker. When it comes to white voters, however, Walker has the advantage....

U.S. officials are pushing back hard against Russian claims that American anti-aircraft missiles meant for Ukraine have begun showing up on the illicit arms market in Syria. Intelligence and diplomatic sources say the claims are a textbook case of Kremlin disinformation aimed at undercutting U.S. and allied support for arming Ukrainian forces while diverting criticism of Russia’s invasion. In another page from the recent Russian playbook, Chinese state media have quickly piggybacked on the Kremlin claims in recent days, amplifying conspiracy theories about the backing that the U.S. and its allies have provided for Ukraine in response to the Russian...

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot resumed its public hearings Monday with recordings from depositions from Donald Trump's former attorney general and campaign director to detail how the former president pursued his false claims about the November 2020 election. Bill Barr, the attorney general at the time, said Trump became "detached from reality" in his pursuit of fighting the election result. The panel of seven Democrats and two Republicans has accused Trump of emboldening a mob of his supporters to lay siege to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

In a time of rising gasoline demand and refinery bottlenecks, the US could use more octane as the spread between premium gas (octane level of 93) and regular gas (octane level of 87) has blown out. Premium fuels eliminate engine knock in high-performance vehicles that have high compression engines. For most vehicles, using regular gas is advised and cheaper. Wholesale premium fuel sells for 62.50 cents more per gallon, a record high. Bloomberg explains the blowout of the spread is due to “low supplies of octane,” which may exacerbate gasoline supply tightness this summer for premium fuel, adding it could...

On Friday, June 3, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it will require American refiners to blend a record amount of ethanol and other biofuels into the country’s fuel supply. Reactions were mixed. Corn farmers in Iowa, where more than 40 percent of each year’s corn crop is turned into fuel, were happy. Many environmentalists, oil refiners, and yours truly were dismayed. There’s nothing inherently strange about President Joe Biden flying into Iowa to crow about mandating increased production of corn-based ethanol and E15 (motor fuel with a 15 percent ethanol content instead of the usual 10 percent)....

The scientists found the secret subterranean habitat tucked away beneath the Larsen Ice Shelf — a massive, floating sheet of ice attached to the eastern coast of the Antarctic peninsula that famously birthed the world's largest iceberg in 2021. Satellite photos showed an unusual groove in the ice shelf close to where it met with the land, and researchers identified the peculiar feature as a subsurface river, which they described in a statement(opens in new tab). The team drilled down around 1,640 feet (500 meters) below the ice's surface using a powerful hot-water hose to reach the underground chamber. When...

Metropolitan Theophanes of the Romanian Orthodox Church has consecrated a worship cross installed in the Botoşani penitentiary in memory of Christian confessors held here during the atheistic Communist regime, between 1952 and 1964. The consecration of the cross was attended by the officials of the Romanian Prison Administration, representatives of local authorities and the Romanian Armed Forces. “I met many people who had gone through prisons of that time in the 50-60s”, - said the Metropolitan. – “And I noticed three things in those who had to suffer for their faith: they had the power to forgive for everything that...

Brother Markus Fuhrmann opposes Catholic Church teaching not only on homosexuality, but on the issues of priestly celibacy and women’s ordination.(LifeSiteNews) – German Franciscans have elected a provincial superior who publicly revealed that he is homosexual only weeks prior. Brother Markus Fuhrmann, referred to as the first openly homosexual Franciscan in his office, said that he has received a “lot of encouragement” regarding his open homosexuality in his position as Provincial Minister, despite the condemnation of homosexuality by Scripture and Church teaching. The Catechism of the Catholic Church declares that “Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as...

n Tuesday night Tucker Carlson explained how Joe Biden’s regulations are causing hundreds of flights to be canceled or delayed across the US. Last week the FAA notified all air traffic employees that people who haven’t had the vax, the COVID vaccine that doesn’t work, they have to wear masks on the job. And, once again, this has nothing to do with ‘the science.’ This is just another of the tyrannical actions the government bureaucrats came up with to punish fellow Americans who do not believe their nonsense. As Tucker explained, this affected about 4,000 of the 15,000 total air...
