Explanation: Yes, but can you see the lion? A deep exposure shows the famous dark indentation that looks like a horse's head, visible just left and below center, and known unsurprisingly as the Horsehead Nebula. The Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33) is part of a vast complex of dark absorbing dust and bright glowing gas. To bring out details of the Horsehead's pasture, an astrophotographer artistically combined light accumulated for over 20 hours in hydrogen (orange), oxygen (blue), and sulfur (green). The resulting spectacular picture captured from Raachine, Lebanon, details an intricate tapestry of gaseous wisps and dust-laden filaments that were...

Atlanta Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley has been suspended for at least the 2022 season after gambling on games in 2021. The NFL released a statement Monday announcing his suspension, saying he gambled on games over a five-day stretch in November 2021 when he was on the non-football injury list to address his mental health. Ridley stepped away from football on Halloween, saying he needed to get his personal life in order. In a series of tweets Monday after the suspension was announced, Ridley said he bet $1,500 total and that "I don't have a gambling problem." He also tweeted that...

FLORENCE, S.C. (WCBD)- Two congressional candidates and the Governor are scheduled to speak at former President Trump’s Florence rally later this month. Attendees at the March 12 rally will hear from speakers including South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, SC-01 candidate Katie Arrington, and SC-07 candidate Russell Fry. Trump recently endorsed Arrington, who is looking to unseat Nancy Mace. He said that she is “liked and respected and a true Republican,” noting her “strong” stance on “the Military, our great Vets, Law Enforcement, [and] the Boarder.” Arrington traveled to Mar-a-Lago in late February for a private meeting with Trump and said...

Nothing is lost with peace. All can be lost with war. Let men return to understanding. Let them resume negotiating. Negotiating with good will and with respect for each other’s rights, let them realize that an honorable success is never precluded when there are sincere and active negotiations. And they will feel great – with true greatness – if imposing silence on the voices of passion, whether collective or private, and leaving reason to its proper domain, they will spare their brothers bloodshed and their homeland ruin………. Thus it was that on August 24, 1939, Pius XII addressed both rulers...

The White House on Monday warned that the "world needs to be prepared for a very long, difficult road ahead" as Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine for a twelfth day. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the United States will continue to support the Ukrainians as they "fight back" but maintained that U.S. troops will not fight in the country and stopped short of vowing a ban on Russian oil imports.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was one of the reasons he got into politics. After leaving his career as a comedian and entertainer and becoming Ukraine’s president in April 2019, Zelenskyy hailed Trudeau as “one of those leaders who inspired” him “to join politics,” when he became Ukraine’s president in 2019.

Let’s get the caveats out of the way up front. I’m not going to try to convince you that Ukraine is wrong or Russia is right. That’s not how I feel, but some have read into my past posts and assumed I’m anti-Zelensky, pro-Putin. I am neither. I am pro-America, and while I recognize there’s a need for humanitarian aid and support at times, my desire for the nation to be generous ends when doing so puts us in danger, Every post I’ve made lately has resulted in a barrage of emails trying to convince me that either Putin is...

In the days since Putin's devastating invasion of Ukraine, 230 companies have announced that they are withdrawing from Russia in protest, calling to mind the large-scale corporate boycott of Apartheid South Africa in the 1980s. Nevertheless, some western companies have continued to operate in Russia undeterred; we identified 30 companies with particularly significant exposure to Russian markets. The full list of companies that have curtailed operations in Russia as well as those that remain, as of March 7, can be seen below. (at the link)

The Russian invasion of Ukraine means that World War III has “likely already started,” according to billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman. “In January 2020, I had nightmares about the potential for a pandemic, but everyone seemed to think I was crazy. I am having similar nightmares now,” Ackman tweeted on Saturday. He added: “WWIII has likely started already, but we have been slow to recognize it.”

As Russia invades Ukraine, shelling civilians and reportedly committing war crime-level brutality, President Biden has put harsh sanctions to Kremlin-tied businesses, banks and oligarchs, but not the oil and gas industry. -snip- Experts say that U.S. oil and gas supply could likely recover from a Russia ban as their fuel accounts for a small share of total product, and the nation could turn to wells here at home or ask other nations to increase supply. Where does the US get its oil? Russia is the third largest exporter of crude oil and petroleum products to the U.S. America gets most...

For better and worse, “Turning Red” is like no Pixar film before it. The film, directed by Domee Shi, who made the lovely Oscar-winning short “Bao,” is the first Pixar movie directly solely by a woman. Its leadership team, including producers and art departments, is entirely female. And its protagonist, 13-year-old Meilin Lee (voiced by Rosalie Chiang), is a Chinese-Canadian eighth-grader in the throws of puberty. For Pixar, a factory of childhood whimsy designed to make adults cry, “Turning Red” fills in more than a few blind spots. Not only is the movie deeply rooted in a female and Asian-North...
