How bad is inflation in the USA? Try 18%, based on the Flexible Consumer Price Index. The Flexible Price Consumer Price Index (CPI) is calculated from a subset of goods and services included in the CPI that change price relatively frequently. Because flexible prices are quick to change, it assumes that when these prices are set, they incorporate less of an expectation about future inflation. Again, remember that Federal inflation numbers woefully undercount housing and rent inflation. For example, the Case-Shiller National Home Price index (as of November 2021) was growing at 18.8%. Playing chicken with United States Department of Defense isn’t a good idea, but that’s what the Animal Welfare League of Arlington said Henny Penny did. And the Rhode Island Red hen lived to tell. “Apparently, the answer to ‘why did the chicken cross the road’ is to get to the Pentagon?!” the AWLA wrote on its Twitter feed. “This chicken was caught sneaking around the security area at the Pentagon (we’re not kidding) and our officers picked her up.” The Virginia-based animal advocacy group opened the floor to the public to choose a name for the bird. (Reuters) - U.S. supplies of fuels such as diesel and heating oil have dwindled and refiners are having trouble replenishing that supply, which could keep prices elevated for months. Demand for diesel, heating oil and other products has been running ahead of pre-pandemic levels for months. However, production has not kept up as some refineries have closed since the coronavirus pandemic began while others put off maintenance. As of Thursday, heating oil futures were priced at $2.83, the highest price in seven years. Higher fuel costs could become a recurrent feature of the energy markets as companies find it harder...
