Senator Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) on Monday dared Democrats to push him out of the party if they are unhappy with his views, one day after he announced he will not support President Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda, effectively killing the bill. Asked on Hoppy Kercheval’s West Virginia radio show if he believes there is still a place for him in the Democratic party, Manchin replied: “I would like to hope that Democrats feel like I do. I’m fiscally responsible and socially compassionate.” “Now if there are no Democrats like that, they ought to push me where they want me,”...

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) called Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) Monday morning to explain himself to the Congressional Progressive Caucus chair, and Jayapal said she gave him an earful. (snip) “And obviously yesterday, the senator took the latter path and went back on this word. That lack of integrity is stunning in a town where people say the only thing that you have is your word.” Jayapal went on to say that she said as much to Manchin when he called her on Monday. “There is nothing I have said here that I didn’t say to him,” Jayapal said.

I feel like ALL of our problems would be solved within a span of 20-30 years if we simply had free but mandatory Intro to Logic and Critical Thinking classes for every American. And maybe you have to take a refresher (booster) class every 10 years. I’m certainly ready for mine.

This will come as no surprise to anyone but New York City has a rat problem. The Rats method of rat control – documented in grisly detail online – isn’t for everyone, but it receives scores of requests from New Yorkers each year. In a city this rat strewn, it seems people are willing to try anything. On the other side of the fence we wait: eight people with eight dogs straining at their leashes, and me, standing there with my pants tucked into my socks, holding an iPhone. The dogs, all terriers, have quite literally smelt a rat, and...

With rising prices, escalating crime rates, and the approach of year three of a global pandemic, 7 in 10 voters think it was another bad year for the country — and over half feel it was bad for them personally. The new Fox Business survey of registered voters finds 70 percent say 2021 was a clunker for the country. While that is better than the 78 percent who felt that way about 2020, it’s still much worse than the 38 percent who called 2019 bad.

AURORA | Two teenage boys were arrested Friday in connection with a Nov. 15 shooting in Nome Park, which left six Aurora Central High School students injured. Neither of the boys were identified because of their age, police said. If the boys are charged, the case would be handled by the 18th Judicial District in Arapahoe County, which has identified juveniles being prosecuted in another, similar shooting. Police said that after weeks of investigation and pleas to the public for leads, two specialized units arrested a 15-year-old boy at about 12:30 p.m. as he was getting into his car at...

On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) urged President Joe Biden “to take executive action, so that we truly can build back better and deliver on the very agenda that he laid out and that progressives have been at the forefront of fighting for this entire time.” Jayapal said, “I have to be clear that we are also going to, at the same time that we work on legislation, call on the president to take executive action, so that we truly can build back better and deliver on the very agenda that he...

The largest-ever fossil of a giant millipede—as big as a car—has been found on a beach in the north of England. The fossil—the remains of a creature called Arthropleura—dates from the Carboniferous Period, about 326 million years ago, over 100 million years before the Age of Dinosaurs. The fossil reveals that Arthropleura was the largest-known invertebrate animal of all time, larger than the ancient sea scorpions that were the previous record holders. The specimen, found on a Northumberland beach about 40 miles north of Newcastle, is made up of multiple articulated exoskeleton segments, broadly similar in form to modern millipedes....

Bette Midler is walking back an insult. The 76-year-old performer is known for speaking her mind on Twitter – especially when it comes to politics. On Monday, she took to social media to slam Joe Manchin, West Virginia's Democratic senator who has announced that he's against the Build Back Better Act, which would expand the country's social safety net. "What #JoeManchin, who represents a population smaller than Brooklyn, has done to the rest of America, who wants to move forward, not backward, like his state, is horrible," Midler tweeted. "He sold us out. He wants us all to be just...

Though it's likely a moot point, a judge on Monday raised Darrel E. Brooks Jr.'s $1,000 bail in a Milwaukee domestic violence case to $200,000. His new lawyers argued it was unnecessary, given Brooks' $5 million bail in the Waukesha Christmas Parade case, when he's facing six counts of first-degree intentional homicide. "Bad facts make bad case law," said Brooks' attorney, Robert Hampton. "I'm fearful where this leads." He cited case law that suggests cash bail is unnecessary when there's no risk a defendant won't appear for the next court date.

The World Health Organization's director-general recommended on Monday that people cancel or postpone their holiday events as the new Omicron variant drives a spike in COVID-19 cases. "An event canceled is better than a life canceled," Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference. He added: "It's better to cancel now and celebrate later, than to celebrate now and grieve later." The director-general's comments come as the Omicron variant spreads across the world at a rapid pace, breaking records in several countries, Insider's Marianne Guenot previously reported.

Here is what it says: “Can. 1373 A person who publicly incites among subjects animosities or hatred against the Apostolic See or an ordinary because of some act of power or ecclesiastical ministry or provokes subjects to disobey them is to be punished by an interdict or other just penalties.” This new canon was newly inserted into the code on December 8, 2021, just a few days before the responsa ad dubium in regard to the draconian, unprecedented and highly controversial Traditionis Custodes which makes clear that our Catholic tradition is no longer in favor in high places. I wonder...
