Prices that suppliers charge businesses and other customers rose at the fastest pace on record, up 9.6%. The Labor Department says the core PPI — which excludes food and energy costs — jumped 7.7% in November, which was also a record. Those price increases won’t show up on store shelves for a couple of months, so it’s entirely possible that by the time springtime comes to the Midwest, we could be seeing double-digit price increases. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that higher prices for energy, wholesale food, transportation, and warehousing contributed to the rise in inflation.Persistently high prices in large part...

I spent the past week in a more urban area and was shocked. I come from a semi-rural, conservative area, and as Rick Moran wrote Tuesday, COVID-19 hype scarcely exists. But in liberal land, masks, panic, and unnecessary mandates abound. This is the majority of America. https://t.co/wqYUs99Tzn— Pradheep J. Shanker (@Neoavatara) December 14, 2021 Speaking of neurotic goons, the New York Times claimed Tuesday that “Omicron is a Dress Rehearsal for the Next Pandemic.”The next pandemic? The Gray Lady neglects to mention that the best and most important news on omicron is that it’s killed almost no one.At the worst, there are...

Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine produced virtually no antibody protection against the omicron coronavirus variant in a laboratory experiment, underlining the new strain’s ability to get around one pillar of the body’s defenses. The vaccine appears to provide some defense against omicron, perhaps via other means such as stimulation of immune cells, according to Penny Moore, a South African virologist. The findings are consistent with other studies that show a partial loss of potency against COVID-19 for a number of vaccines, with J&J’s antibody protection looking particularly weak in the lab test. Moore, a professor at Johannesburg’s University of The Witwatersrand,...

House Democrats overwhelmingly voted to block consideration for H.R. 2729, also known as the Finish the Wall Act, on Tuesday. The bill, introduced by Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA), would have required the Department of Homeland Security to resume construction of border wall projects halted by the Biden administration and would prohibit the administration from canceling wall contracts entered into before Jan 20, 2021."This bill requires the secretary of Homeland Security to resume construction of the border wall within 24 hours of enactment using funds Congress has already appropriated to building the wall. The wall is more than just a fence,"...

DOI: 10.13140/RG.2.2.28257.43366 Project: Risk benefit analyses of COVID vaccination stratified by age ABSTRACT ANDFIGURES Accurate estimates of COVID vaccine-induced severe adverse event and death rates are critical for risk-benefit ratio analyses of vaccination and boosters against SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in different age groups. However, existing surveillance studies are not designed to reliably estimate life-threatening event or vaccine-induced fatality rates (VFR). Here, regional variation in vaccination rates was used to predict all-cause mortality and non-COVID deaths in subsequent time periods using two independent, publicly available datasets from the US and Europe (month-and week-level resolutions, respectively). Vaccination correlated negatively with mortality 6-20 weeks...

[Catholic Caucus] URGENT - EXCLUSIVE - “The Roche Christmas Massacre”: CDW Instruction on Traditionis Custodes to be issued next week RORATE has learned, and can confirm, that the instruction of the Congregation for Divine Worship (Prefect: Archbishop Arthur Roche) on the application of the motu proprio Traditionis Custodes is to be published next week. (Unless some extraordinary measure prevents the publication of the already approved text.)The instruction will try (among other things) to impose over the global Church, by violent and illegitimate will of the legislator, the blueprint established for the Diocese of Rome by its Cardinal Vicar months...

The Emirati embassy in Washington said it would "suspend discussions" with the U.S., though meetings at the Pentagon this week between the two sides on other matters will move forward as planned. "The U.S. remains the UAE’s preferred provider for advanced defense requirements and discussions for the F-35 may be re-opened in the future," the embassy said in a statement. The proposed sale of 50 F-35s to the UAE came at the end of former President Donald Trump’s administration, emerging from a deal that saw the Emiratis formally recognize Israel. President Joe Biden’s administration put the deal on hold after...

87% of L.A. Unified students 12 and older have shown proof of vaccination, a high rate that Reilly cited when she proposed the delay. But the district’s independent study program, City of Angels, is overwhelmed with about 16,000 students — and district officials did not want to send so many children back to online learning. Incoming Supt. Alberto Carvalho, who was in Los Angeles on Tuesday, weighed in on the issue during a news conference, calling the move “the right decision” considering the fluid circumstances of the pandemic and high vaccination rate.

Prosecutors have dropped their case against a pastor who was handed a £10,000 fine for holding a church gathering in a pub car park. Chizumie Dyer, 47, was handed the fine for holding a meet-up in February in Bardney Drive in Bulwell, Nottingham. Although the country was in lockdown at the time, the pastor argued it was a religious event and so exempt. On Thursday, Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had withdrawn its case. 'God came through'Pastor Chez, as she is known, told the BBC outside court she was "thrilled". "I had a big sense of...

A federal judge on Tuesday threw out a lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump, who was trying to block the release of his taxes to Congress. In his ruling, Judge Trevor McFadden deferred to the need for Congress to carry out "facially valid inquiries." "A long line of Supreme Court cases requires great deference to facially valid congressional inquiries," wrote McFadden. "Even the special solicitude accorded former Presidents does not alter the outcome. The Court will therefore dismiss this case." The lawsuit brought by the former president stems from a 2019 request issued by the House Ways and Means...

A few days ago, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew had a meeting with Ukrainian journalists in the Phanar, in the presence of the Exarch of the Patriarchate in Kyiv, Bishop Mikhail, and the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Archimandrite Grigorios. He referred warmly to his recent visit to Ukraine and his communication with the pious Ukrainian people. He did not fail to talk about the issue of the Autocephaly of the Church of Ukraine, but also about the stance of the Church of Russia. His All-Holiness paid most attention to the release of the Local Ukrainian...

@RepMattGaetz Our country is in no position to increase spending, especially under Biden’s trashed economy. I promised to never vote in favor of raising the debt limit, and tonight I will vote against doing so again. (1/2) I'm also disappointed that Republicans have paved the way for the Democrats to continue their March to Socialism by giving them the votes they need in both Chambers to move spending and debt limit legislation. Shame on them. (2/2)

BOSTON — A group of Christian, Hindu, Buddhist and Jewish leaders is urging luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton to stop using animal fur in its clothing and other products. In a joint statement, Orthodox Christian priest Stephen Karcher, Hindu activist Rajan Zed, Jewish rabbi ElizaBeth Webb Beyer and Buddhist priest Matthew Fisher said selling items trimmed with fur is inconsistent with the ethics and values of parent company Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. “Louis Vuitton should explore new boundaries of fur-free creative design and discontinue selling all products made from animal fur,” the clerics said Thursday, calling the trend “cruel, outdated...

Chile’s National Congress passed Dec. 7 a bill legalizing same-sex marriage that in June received the backing of President Sebastián Piñera. The bill was first introduced in 2017 by then-President Michelle Bachelet, but became stalled in Congress. During her administration a civil unions law was passed, but it did not include adoption by same sex partners, which the newly passed bill provides for. The same-sex marriage bill was recently taken up again and rushed through the legislature on the basis of “urgency” by Piñera, whose term ends in March 2022. It could be promulgated at any time. The bill was...

Alaska Senate candidate Kelly Tshibaka made a provocative announcement. "Mitch McConnell has repeatedly bailed out Joe Biden, giving him gifts of Senate votes, which are the only things keeping the Biden administration on life support," Tshibaka said about the Senate's highest-ranking Republican, adding: "When I defeat [Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa] Murkowski and become Alaska's next U.S. Senator, I will not support Mitch McConnell as leader. It's time for new, America First leadership in the Senate." Which is, in and of itself, is not terribly surprising. After all, McConnell is supporting Murkowski in her reelection bid, which gives Tshibaka plenty of...

A month ago, we wrote about how Ron DeSantis issued a direct threat to the Biden administration in response to discovering that multiple planeloads of illegal immigrants were being flown into his state in the dead of night and under the radar. To quickly recap, the Florida Governor’s public safety czar Larry Keefe told the DC Examiner at the time that “over the course of the summer through September … over 70 air charter flights [on] jetliner airliners coming from the southwest border have landed at Jacksonville International Airport.” O’Keefe also said that “on average, there’s 36 passengers on each of...
