COVID-19 reinfections among people who’ve already battled the virus appear to be more likely with the Omicron variant than other strains, South African scientists warned Friday. A surge in coronavirus reinfections occurred in the country as the new “variant of concern” emerged, according to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, which tracks reinfections. By contrast, there was no reinfection spike upon the arrival of other variants such as the highly contagious Delta strain, the scientists told the World Health Organization on Thursday. “Previous infection used to protect against Delta, and now with Omicron, it doesn’t seem to be the case,”...

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) – Picture this: You’re sitting in the woods alone after just getting your first white-tail. You’re excited, your heart is already racing, and then out of nowhere a black bear shows up intent on making your buck its lunch. One woman in Pennsylvania had that very experience, with not one … but four bears. Jordan Zabinski went hunting for the first time over the Thanksgiving weekend and shot her first buck. “I was so terrified of a bear, and my husband was like, ‘I’ve never seen a bear except for this one time.’ He said, ‘Don’t...

The “highly transmissible” Omicron variant of COVID-19 has disproportionately hospitalized kids under age 5 as it tears through South Africa, health officials in the country said Friday. The new strain of the coronavirus — which had largely not caused serious illness in young children previously — has led to a dramatic spike in severe cases in the age group, South African government medical adviser Waasila Jassat said at a press conference. “The week-on-week increase we’re seeing in cases and admissions is higher than we’ve seen it before. We’ve seen quite a sharp increase [in hospital admissions] across all age groups...

What’s happening between China and Taiwan should put those of us who fear a major outbreak of war on high alert. hen the Department of Defense released its annual report on Chinese military strength in early November, one claim generated headlines around the world. By 2030, it suggested, China would probably have 1,000 nuclear warheads—three times more than at present and enough to pose a substantial threat to the United States. As a Washington Post headline put it, typically enough: “China accelerates nuclear weapons expansion, seeks 1,000 warheads or more, Pentagon says.” The media, however, largely ignored a far more...

Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians said Friday that he believes the NFL needs to take a closer look at other teams after two of his players -- Antonio Brown and Mike Edwards -- and one former player, John Franklin III, were found to have provided fake vaccination cards. "We've done everything. There's a lot more to that story. I just hope they don't stop looking," said Arians, who two weeks ago said that he had no reason to believe Brown or any player falsified their vaccination status. But an NFL investigation revealed that the three players presented the team with fake...

Randomized controlled trial found that families with high avocado consumption self-reported reduced caloric intake and an overall healthier diet. In a novel study, researchers at University of California San Diego School of Medicine and the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science conducted a randomized controlled trial comparing the potential health effects between families that consumed a low allotment of avocados (three per week) and families that consumed a high allotment (14 per week) over six months. Since Watergate, conventional Washington wisdom holds that the cover-up is worse than the crime. Richard Nixon’s Committee to Re-Elect the President (CREEP) tasked former intelligence operatives to break into Democratic National Committee headquarters to wiretap the opposition. To cover up his involvement in the Watergate break-in, Nixon lied about what he knew and when he knew it, resulting in his resignation from office. Whether Hillary Clinton was aware of the crimes committed between 2016 and 2020 to further her political ambitions is a question that may never be answered. What has been proved beyond any shadow of doubt by the...

McDonald says the gun used in the shootings at Oxford High School was purchased by James Crumbley a week ago and given to the boy.

Promobot, which describes itself as a producer of "autonomous service robots for business", is certainly no stranger to the field of robotics having previously featured in the news with its limited, though impressive IR77 robot (which looks like something out of a sci-fi movie from the 1980s), as well as its far more realistic 'Alex' robot which even served as a news anchor on a Russian TV channel. Now the company is looking to take things one step further by creating ultra-realistic robots that will be used to interactive with customers in hotels, airports and shopping centers in countries across...

Actor Alec Baldwin told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos while he is sad over accidentally killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a movie set with a prop gun, he does not have any guilt over the incident because he is not responsible. "No. No. I feel that someone is responsible for what happened and I can’t say who that is, but I know it’s not me," Baldwin said. "What do we come out of this learning? What changes can be made? This is a one-in-a-billion that someone puts a real bullet in a gun and that never happens," Baldwin added. He wants...
