The recall election that once threatened to derail California Gov. Gavin Newsom's political future has instead given it new life, offering a rare midterm vote of confidence that could fuel an ambitious legislative agenda featuring new coronavirus vaccine mandates, housing for the homeless and health insurance for people living in the country illegally. Nearly 64% of voters in the recall election voted to keep Newsom in office, according to early returns, giving him a larger margin of victory so far compared to his 2018 election. On Wednesday, one day after surviving the recall that a few months ago had him...

At least 18 of the 20 gorillas at Atlanta’s zoo have now tested positive for COVID-19, an outbreak that began just days before the zoo had hoped to obtain a veterinary vaccine for the primates, officials said Tuesday. Zoo Atlanta had announced the first positive tests among the western lowland gorillas on Friday after employees noticed the gorillas had been coughing, had runny noses and showed changes in appetite. A veterinary lab at the University of Georgia returned positive tests for the respiratory illness. Zoo Atlanta says the National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa, confirms that at least four...

Police will suspend part of Melbourne's public transport system for six hours on Saturday in an attempt to thwart planned anti-lockdown protests. Trains, trams and buses will not run into the CBD between 8:00am and 2:00pm, and extra police will be stationed in the city to fine and arrest people trying to take part. Meanwhile, the City of Ballarat has re-entered lockdown and will remain under those restrictions for at least seven days after recording four positive cases and multiple wastewater detections and exposure sites. Premier Daniel Andrews said the lockdown was necessary because if the outbreak got away from...

Studies show both hybrid immunity and superhuman immunity are ways in which our bodies may have extra fighting power against COVID-19. Experts say they’ve heard the terms used interchangeably, but they’re a little bit different. Hybrid immunity, is when someone has had COVID-19 and the vaccine. It provides people with antibodies from both. Superhuman immunity starts off the same way, but that some people with particular genetics can develop even more immunity. “There are some of us that have this super ability to be able to recover from infections, COVID being one of them, a little better than the general...

HEAVEN—Millions around the world are converting to the Christian religion after Heaven announced they now have nightly Norm MacDonald stand-up comedy every night forever. Comedian Norm MacDonald bravely fought cancer for almost ten years but then at the end there he got a little less brave and the cancer got more brave and started to win. However, it turns out that when you die, the cancer dies too, so it was really a draw. Upon his passing, MacDonald immediately sought out a small comedy club on the streets of gold and began telling a centuries-long version of the moth joke....

Maybe President Biden should handle COVID-19 the way he’s handled Afghanistan. It’s a strange thought, given how badly he botched the US withdrawal. But at least Afghanistan Joe had a clear idea about what we needed to do. COVID Joe has no such exit strategy. He’s making it up as he goes. SNIP Biden relishes this fight. He’s already achieved one of his goals — to change the subject from handing Afghanistan to the Taliban in time for the anniversary of 9/11. But the other political calculation is that he doesn’t need the support of people ideologically (and foolishly) opposed...

Pennsylvania Republicans moved on Wednesday to seek personal information on every voter in the state as part of a brewing partisan review of the 2020 election results, rubber-stamping more than a dozen subpoenas for driver’s license numbers and partial Social Security numbers. The expansive request for personal information, directed at Pennsylvania’s Department of State and approved in a vote by Republicans on a State Senate subcommittee, is the first major step of the election inquiry. The move adds Pennsylvania to a growing list of states that have embarked on partisan-led reviews of the 2020 election, including a widely criticized attempt...

Priyanka Chopra is the latest person involved with the planned reality competition show The Activist to respond to widespread criticism of its concept, starting with the idea that it pitted activists against each other. "You were heard," the actress, who was supposed to be a host and judge of the show, wrote on social media. "The show got it wrong, and I'm sorry that my participation in it disappointed many of you. The intention was always to bring attention to the people behind the ideas and highlight the actions and impact of the causes they support tirelessly. I'm happy to...

Actor and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger praised California voters for not recalling Gavin Newsom this week. Speaking with The Los Angeles Times this week, the former Terminator star, who himself became governor of the Golden State through a recall election in 2003, said California “made the right decision” to stick with Newsom, characterizing Larry Elder as a “wacky” candidate. “I think voters made the right decision,” Schwarzenegger said. “It’s better to stay with someone who you know what they’re going to do, rather than someone who comes in wacky and is changing everything around.” Only 36.2 percent of California...

The FDA just released its briefing book for Pfizer’s request for a third dose of Comirnaty (or is that BNT162b2? No matter! It’s approved either way, sorta). It is every bit the mess we all expected. Let’s go to the highlights: Pfizer basically hasn’t bothered to test the booster AT ALL in the people actually at risk - it conducted a single “Phase 1” trial that covered 12 people over 65. The main Phase 2/3 booster trial (beware efforts to cover multiple “phases” of drug research at once, you want it bad you get it bad) included no one over...

Baseball fans know the score. When the general manager says he's behind the manager 100%, that means the manager has two weeks left. Biden just said, "I have great confidence in General Milley." Look for Milley to soon decide to spend more time with his family. Bob Woodward has a new book, "Peril," the latest in his series of books on Washington that explain the deep state's version of reality. To promote his book, he played up his interview with PC General Milley. He said he called General Li of Red China when Trump was president and promised to give...

It’s never happened before in the history of the sport, but according to Tom Brady the concept of playing in the NFL at age 50 doesn’t seem difficult. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have their iconic quarterback hosting the Tommy & Gronky show with tight end Rob Gronkowski, where the two answer what is supposed to be “the internet’s most searched questions.” Most of the topics fall short of what’s actually trending on Google, but Gronk put Brady under a little bit of pressure with one of the questions. “Can Tom Brady play until 50 years old?” the tight end read....

Arizona sued the federal government on Tuesday over President Joe Biden’s sweeping order to mandate vaccinations for federal employees and contractors as well as fine businesses that don’t enforce strict COVID testing for unvaccinated workers. Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich’s lawsuit is the first of many lawsuits expected to hit the Biden administration over Biden’s plan to combat COVID-19. “The federal government cannot force people to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The Biden Administration is once again flouting our laws and precedents to push their radical agenda,” Brnovich said in a statement. “There can be no serious or scientific discussion about...
