  • Washington Conversion Therapy Ban Upheld

    09/07/2021 6:14:03 PM PDT · by marshmallow · 12 replies
In Tingley v. Ferguson, (WD WA, Aug. 30, 2021), a Washington federal district court dismissed First Amendment challenges by a family therapist to a Washington state statute that prohibits licensed counselors in treating minors from engaging in "conversion therapy" aimed at changing sexual orientation or gender identity. The court held that performing conversion therapy is "conduct", not speech. According to the court, the law still allows therapists to discuss the option of conversion therapy by someone else-- including someone within the exception for practitioners operating under the auspices of religious organizations. The court also rejected plaintiff's religious free exercise argument,...

Churches in New South Wales will be required to use a vaccination certificate system once 70 percent of the population have received at least two injections of the COVID vaccine. From mid-October, churches will be permitted to return to in-person worship on the provision that they only host vaccinated-only services. Once the target is reached, places of worship must deny entry to any member of the congregation who is not fully vaccinated. Chris O’Keefe of 9News said the state government has not yet signed off on the roadmap, however, “this is the plan that is being worked on, and it’s...

In honor of the month of September, “celebrated by many Christians as the Season of Creation, an opportunity to pray and care for God’s creation,” Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, Pope Francis, and Archbishop Justin of Canterbury of the Anglican church issued a “Joint Message for the Protection of Creation.”Pat. Bartholomew and his colleagues write that the Christian Tradition calls us to be stewards of creation, “but we have taken the opposite direction.” But now “we have an opportunity to repent, to turn around in resolve, to head in the opposite direction. Wes must pursue generosity and fairness in the...

The Worst U.S. PresidentsThe U.S. presidents whose administrations were the worst-run, most ill-fated, or most corrupt. The worst U.S. presidents of all time, measured by their negative impact on the nation, its citizens health and happiness, and its future prosperity. (In some cases - such as the popular selections of Warren G. Harding and Richard Nixon - the negative view of the president and his administration is due to various scandals and perceived corruption within its ranks. Nixon remains the only president to step down from the office amid threats of impeachment.) Much of a president's job - including serving...

I need a swivel spray attachment for my kitchen sink – one that converts from spray to stream. We bought a cheap one on Amazon, and the adapter stripped as my husband was trying to install it. Everything in this line on Amazon seems to be very cheap (and Chinese) – selling for 12 dollars or less – and it’s the same with what I’m finding at the big local hardware stores. I’m willing to pay a lot more for something METAL that actually works, from an actual company. It’s a typical kitchen faucet, the aerator appears to be 15/16...

"In a normal year, the Kentucky Poison Control Center might receive one call from someone who has taken ivermectin, a drug commonly used to treat parasites in livestock. But amid increasing misinformation about the drug’s ability to both treat and prevent COVID-19, that number has increased to six this year." This alarming news was published in Spectrum News - formerly known as Time Warner Cable - on August 24, 2021, and should be a lesson to every American. https://spectrumnews1.com/ky/louisville/news/2021/08/24/ivermectin-calls-to-kentucky-poison-control-are-up The lesson is not about Ivermectin being poisonous because it isn't, but about the pervasiveness of a type of new internet...

We see in 2021 gaslighting about vaccines, Ivermectin, and public health. The public may be aware that the Pharmaceutical companies profit handsomely from new drugs and that there is a very cozy and cooperative relationship between FDA, NIH, and Big Pharma. Still, almost no one realizes they are gaslit daily with a coordinated marketing campaign. https://www.thedesertreview.com/news/local/debating-ivermectin-hydroxychloroquine-and-colchicine/article_01fbb380-d917-11eb-91c2-73cdf82fa113.html Most Americans think that morality and ethics would suspend the profit motive just this once for the sake of saving the world from COVID-19. But, unfortunately, many continue to believe the vaccines are "free" and being offered as a public service out of the...

WASHINGTON (AP) - Veterans’ groups, Democratic lawmakers and Afghans called Tuesday for urgent Biden administration action on a weeklong standoff that has left hundreds of would-be evacuees from Afghanistan desperate to board waiting charter flights out of the Taliban-ruled country. They say several dozen Americans, along with a much larger number of U.S. green card holders and family members, are among vulnerable Afghans waiting to board pre-arranged charter flights at the airport in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif that are being prevented from leaving. “We think we are in some kind of jail,” said one Afghan woman among the...

We have often discussed the increasing bias and advocacy in major media in the United States. While cable networks have long catered to political audiences on the left or right, mainstream newspapers and networks now openly frame news to fit a political narrative. With the exception of Fox and a couple of other smaller news outlets, that slant is heavily to the left. What is most striking about this universal shift toward advocacy journalism (including at journalism schools) is that there is no evidence that it is a sustainable approach for the media as an industry. While outfits like NPR...

A memorial placed in Riverside to honor the 13 American service members who were killed in a suicide bombing at the Kabul airport as the U.S. exited Afghanistan late last month was found vandalized on Labor Day, police said Tuesday. The memorial, which consisted of 13 American flags and one Marine Corps flag, had recently been put up on the fence above the Ivy Street overpass, above the 91 Freeway, in remembrance of the fallen troops, according to a post on the Riverside Police Department’s Facebook page. Photos accompanying the Police Department’s post showed multiple flags at the memorial were...

Container shipping rates are in uncharted territory. Dry bulk rates are at decade highs, and the latest boom in rates because of the shipping crunch has been with vessels that move wheeled cargo across the ocean, according to Bloomberg. Cargo ships designed to carry wheeled cargo, such as cars, trucks, trailers, and railroad cars, buses, and or even heavy machinery, commonly referred to as Roll-on/roll-off (RORO or ro-ro) ships, are demanding nearly $25,000 per day, with at least one vessel that has been booked for three years at the cost of $30,000 a day, according to Pareto Securities AS. Former Walmart executive and e-commerce billionaire Marc Lore wants to build the world’s first woke city from scratch — somewhere in the US. Lore last week unveiled plans for his utopia, called Telosa, from the ancient Greek word Telos, meaning "highest purpose." "The mission of Telosa is to create a more equitable, sustainable future. That’s our North Star," Lore said in a promotional video. "We are going to be the most open, the most fair and the most inclusive city in the world." Key to the city’s plans is Lore’s economic vision, called "Equitism," in which the land upon which...
