Last October, a barred owl showed up in the Ramble, the woodsy section of Central Park just north of the lake, and crowds of birders gathered at its preferred hemlock tree like it was a hot new bakery. At a time when many in the city turned to birding and the urban outdoors, Barry, as people called the owl, became part celebrity, part mascot — the most recognizable bird in the park since the Hot Duck of 2018. Barred owls aren’t uncommon, even in the city, but unlike the snowy owl that thrilled birders in Central Park for a time...

If you don’t spend your days on TikTok or Reddit, you may be blissfully unaware of a growing movement urging people to quit their jobs en masse this fall. It’s called “The Great Resignation of 2021,” and for businesses already struggling to attract workers back to the office it could spell very bad news. The social media trend coincides with broader disruptions in the labor market. Monster, a global employment website, recently reported 95 percent of employees are considering changing jobs. This is on top of the 4 million people who already followed through and resigned in April. The country’s...

The inventor of the basic technology used to develop the COVID-19 vaccines is warning that the Biden administration's aggressive universal vaccination policy is "bad science" that may very well "cause more harm than good." Robert Malone, an immunologist and epidemiologist who identifies himself as the inventor of "the core mRNA technology being used by Pfizer and Moderna to produce their vaccines," wrote in the Washington Times this week that the Biden administration's "strategy to universally vaccinate in the middle of the pandemic is bad science and badly needs a reboot." Malone, who coauthored the op-ed with former Trump Defense Production...

The White House called a lid on Monday morning at 11:27 a.m. as President Joe Biden spent a long four day weekend at his home in Delaware. The president left Friday afternoon for his trip home, remaining there for the rest of the weekend where he played golf. On Monday, he did not return to the White House, even as his proposed bipartisan infrastructure bill moved forward in the Senate. The bill is expected to pass early Tuesday morning. The White House on Friday indicated Biden could return to Washington, D.C., earlier in the week.

An image taken by the Curiosity Rover MastCam instrument shows layered sedimentary rocks composing Mount Sharp. The rover has been driving from the floor of Gale crater up through the rocks within these hills in order to understand how the rocks change from lower in the section (older) to higher in the section (younger). The rover have traversed rocks over >400 meters of elevation from the beginning of the mission. I am a 70-year-old avid Pilates practitioner and love my instructors and studio in Northern Virginia. I attribute part of my good health at my age to regular Pilates sessions over the past 10 years. However, I just received the email below from my studio. I am seeking advice and help as to if and if so how to respond. I know I could blow them off and never go there again (and ask for my prepaid money back or lose it). Or alternatively, I could comply and upload a copy of my vaccine card (yes, I have been vaccinated,...

David Feherty does a stand-up show that is quite spectacular. It's all about his life in golf, the drinking and lots of stories about life on the tour. Here's one of his stories: It was back in the 70s and a soon-to-be prominent golfer (Ray Floyd) was playing at Augusta for his first Masters. Back then the players could not bring their own caddies but had to use one of the locals.Floyd told the caddie master he wanted a big fellow who could handle his bag, but who also would keep quiet, no advice needed. The caddie who was assigned...

The highly-anticipated Pfizer’s safety and efficacy study of the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine is finally out. After six months of monitoring over 45,000 patients, the study found that there were 15 deaths in the vaccine group and 14 deaths in the unvaccinated placebo group. In other words, more vaccinated people died from the virus than the unvaccinated. According to the study, there were no deaths among 12‒15-year-old participants. The study not only demonstrates the lack of efficacy in the most important group but also highlights the extremely low fatality rate of Covid-19 in most of the 45,000 participants.

Ben & Jerry’s brought in vocal Israel critic and anti-Zionist author Peter Beinart to talk to its store owners about Israel’s "illegal occupation" earlier this week, after franchisees raised concerns about the company’s boycott of the Jewish state. On the conference call with Ben & Jerry’s franchisees and store managers, Beinart argued that Israel is illegally occupying territory that it seized from Jordan in an offensive war in 1967 and claimed that the Jewish state sends soldiers into Palestinian villages to abduct minors, according to a source familiar with the content of the call. The company’s decision to invite Beinart—an...

For Theresa Sanchez, "It was my first home, second marriage. I thought everything would be nice moving in." At least, it should be. First-time homebuyer Lorie Williams recalls, "I was happy... at first." The Sanchez, Williams and Jones families are among the many who watched and anxiously waited as the walls went up on their Beazer homes in the Colton Ranch neighborhood in North Las Vegas. Then, that sinking feeling set in. "I don't know what to do," said homeowner Arthur Jones. "I'm just lost. I haven't even been living here for two years yet. Every room in this house...

New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) announced that her investigation concludes that Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) sexually harassed at least 11 women during his terms as the state's governor. James emphasized that "the charges are credible, substantiated and corroborated. Laws were broken." However, James has declined to recommend that criminal charges be brought against the Governor. At a press conference he called to refute the accusations, Gov. Cuomo insisted that "I never touched anyone inappropriately. Every kiss, caress, pinch, and pat were expressions of the love and appreciation I felt for these voluptuous babes." He then unveiled a slide...

U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams granted Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings a preliminary injunction on Sunday evening challenging Gov. Ron DeSantis' statewide ban for businesses to require vaccines before engaging in certain activities. In the ruling, she wrote that Florida failed to "provide a valid evidentiary, factual, or legal predicate" for the ban, documents obtained by Politico show. The order allows the company to operate with 100% vaccinations or the requirement of all guests and crew to be vaccinated when sailing from Florida ports. The company will not be subject to $5,000 fines for every violation of the Republican governor's order,...

ORLANDO—Nurse Darlene Andrews stood before a small crew responsible for stopping the latest pandemic surge from overrunning seven of AdventHealth’s Orlando-area hospitals. She quickly listed occupancy at each hospital. Six were beyond full capacity, with one at 123% for adults. Nearby wall-mounted screens streaming hospital data showed more than 90 patients—some with Covid-19, some seeking other care—needed beds. One had been waiting more than two days. A hospital in Altamonte Springs, Fla., and another east of downtown Orlando were the current hot spots, nurse Andrew Stakelum told the group, a team that oversees work that has become critical for U.S....

With the recall of Governor Gavin Newsom hanging in the balance, the entrenched influence of Hollywood in shaping our culture, and the numerous left wing precedents in both private and public life the state continues to set... Please join me in fervent prayer these fateful days and feel free to post your own, whether you are a California resident or not.
