There are some who would have the Church step back to avoid persecution or giving offense. Perhaps there are assets like buildings and land to protect. And maybe some rapprochement with the world will attract more members. Let’s look at some texts.St. John Chrysostom knew all about exile and persecution. At a difficult time for him and his flock, he preached from the following text of St. Paul’s:For the word of the...

A newly released study conducted by Emory University suggests recovered COVID-19 patients possess long-term immunity to the respiratory virus months after infection. Published in Cell Reports Medicine, the comprehensive study analyzed 254 individuals with mostly mild to moderate symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection over an eight-month period and found that patients possessed “durable broad-based immune responses” to the virus after recovering from an infection. “The study serves as a framework to define and predict long-lived immunity to SARS-CoV-2 after natural infection,” said Emory Vaccine Center director Rafi Ahmed. “We also saw indications in this phase that natural immunity could continue to...

BALTIMORE (WBFF) – Moving one step closer to confirming rumors running through the state of Maryland, former lieutenant governor and Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele formed an exploratory committee ahead of a possible run for governor. The GOP field for the 2022 governor’s race would get a little more crowded if Steele jumped in, with current Maryland Secretary of Commerce Kelly Schulz already in the ring, Del. Dan Cox campaigning and Robin Ficker in the race as well. Following Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford’s announcement not to run, Schulz emerged as the GOP favorite thus far. Steele has been a...

I have always been a fan of the Olympics, ever since the first games that I remember, 1960 in Rome. I still remember some of the stars of those games, like Wilma Rudolph and Rafer Johnson. I have followed all of the Olympics since, with varying degrees of interest, and I attended the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid for a few days. But this year, my interest approaches zero. I have watched none of the games so far, and probably won’t from now on.To some extent this reflects my disaffection from sports in general and the fact that there...

Hogan says he won’t enter the race if he doesn’t see a credible path to victory: “I’m not going to go on some suicide mission.” He felt the same way while deciding whether to run for governor. “When we were having our discussions in 2010, we had a list of 15 different things, that ‘if this happened, this happened, this, this, we could be governor,’ ” one of his advisers says. “I think it’s the same thing [now].” In this case, Republican voters would have to reprioritize conservative principles over MAGA personalities. The field would need to shape up in...
