A newly released study conducted by Emory University suggests recovered COVID-19 patients possess long-term immunity to the respiratory virus months after infection.
Published in Cell Reports Medicine, the comprehensive study analyzed 254 individuals with mostly mild to moderate symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection over an eight-month period and found that patients possessed “durable broad-based immune responses” to the virus after recovering from an infection.
“The study serves as a framework to define and predict long-lived immunity to SARS-CoV-2 after natural infection,” said Emory Vaccine Center director Rafi Ahmed. “We also saw indications in this phase that natural immunity could continue to persist.” Ahmed served as a lead author on the study.
The study goes on to note that in response to an active infection in the body, the human immune system produces a multitude of neutralizing antibodies, while also activating certain T and B cells to establish immune memory. Ahmed denotes that these developments make a strong case for some form of lasting immunity to the virus.
“We saw that antibody responses, especially IgG antibodies, were not only durable in the vast majority of patients but decayed at a slower rate than previously estimated, which suggests that patients are generating longer-lived plasma cells that can neutralize the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein,” he said.
Moreover, the analysis also demonstrates that not only are recovered patients likely to possess lasting immunity to existing SARS-COV-2 variants, but that “SARS-CoV-2 infection also boosts antibody titers to SARS-CoV-1 and common betacoronaviruses.”
“While pre-existing exposure and antibodies against HKU1 and OC43 betacoronaviruses are common in adults, pre-existing SARS-CoV-1 exposure is rare and antibody levels to SARS-CoV-1 spike protein were very low (essentially negative) in the pre-pandemic healthy controls,” the study says. “However, SARS-CoV-1 spike-reactive antibodies increased significantly after SARS-CoV-2 infection.”
The report later goes on to conclude that taken together, the results of the study “suggest that broad and effective immunity may persist long-term in recovered COVID-19 patients.”
The study’s participants are expected to be evaluated by the Emory research team over the next few years as part of continued research on the matter.
The forgotten populace - The COVID-19 naturally immunized.
Those who were exposed to SARS in 2003 have the antibodies against SARS COVID-19.
I wonder what the gerbil will say about this one.

“..I wonder what the gerbil will say about this one....”
IF if doesn’t put any more money in his pocket or give him more control/power, he’ll obviously reject it.
In a sane world, this little commie POS would be all decked out in an absolutely gorgeous prison-orange jumpsuit and in a cell awaiting a death penalty sentence for treason, mass murder and crimes agains humanity.
A) No they don't, it's a different virus.
B) There are 7,324 in the entire world who are known to have had and survived SARS 2003. That's 0.0000977% of the world's population. It doesn't help the other 99.99991% even if it were true. And it isn't.
A large portion of the 35% or more of the “unvaccinated” in this country have had or been exposed to the virus over the last 18 months. These people are smart enough to realize that being injected with an experimental gene therapy agent with more death and injury associated than all other vaccines in the last 35 years combined that their immune system already is protecting them from is stupid. The fact that so many politicians and leftist pundits are doing everything in their power to manipulate them into being injected anyway means that they are either stupid or something else is on the agenda.
Ya think?????

[W]e showed that patients (n = 23) who recovered from SARS (the disease associated with SARS-CoV infection) possess long-lasting memory T cells that are reactive to the N protein of SARS-CoV 17 years after the outbreak of SARS in 2003; these T cells displayed robust cross-reactivity to the N protein of SARS-CoV-2.
B) There are 7,324 in the entire world who are known to have had and survived SARS 2003. That's 0.0000977% of the world's population.
Both your statements are half truths meant to mislead.
It is too bad that some people are too dense to recognize the difference between “exposed” and “had and survived”. But do not worry I know that you are well aware of the difference and are just using a typical leftist tactic to confuse the situation to lie with irrelevant statistics that actually have no connection to what is being discussed.
Signalman is correct... both COVID-19 and SARS are caused by coronaviruses. And yes several studies have shown that people who were exposed to SARS appear to have some immunity to COVID-19 that is comparable to what the current experimental gene therapy agents provide.
Israel has found that the Pfizer shots are now just 39% effective against current Covid variants. This is because Covid is constantly mutating, which is one of the primary reasons that vaccines have not been successfully used against the common cold.
39% effective in reference to a vaccine means basically worthless. Flu vaccines with this amount of effectiveness are considered failures. All of the current Covid vaccines are absolute failures.
Trust the science. Just forget about everything we ever learned before from science. Like immunology. It is only since Covid that people don’t get immunity from exposure. Before that it was pretty much a given.

Thats nice. Now explain the Diamond Princess and tell us again how Israel is doing at 39% effectiveness.
I’m aware of the study. It was performed in a lab using samples taken from donors. It showed that there is a level of cross-reactivity. There is no data on this providing immunity in the real world. There have been no challenge studies, nor any epidemiological studies (with such a small sample size, this would be difficult anyway) to demonstrate whether any of this actually has any impact on SARS-CoV-2 infections.
Sorry, you’re still wrong. Repeating the same nonsense doesn’t make it any less wrong.
As for Israel and Pfizer, the vaccine is preventing serious illness and death. So while Israel has seen a small uptick in cases, they’re still basically at 0 deaths.
Funny how all you anti-vax zealots who claimed COVID-19 cases didn’t mean anything suddenly switched sides to claim cases are the ONLY thing that matters when we’re talking about vaccines.
SARS2003 and COVID-19 are both caused by different viruses in the same family. There are four cold viruses also caused by a coronavirus. So everyone who’s ever had a cold is immune, by your logic. So COVID-19 doesn’t exist. And millions of people around the world died because they didn’t buy enough crap from Alex Jones I guess.
“Those who were exposed to SARS in 2003 have the antibodies against SARS COVID-19.”

It’s similar enough and it has been found to be true.

Wrong, it is true but you are right the number of people who had original SARS or Mers is not enough to affect the transmission in the general populace.
But again, you are wrong and spreading false information.
No, it really hasn't. Measuring some cross-reactivity in T-cells in a laboratory petri dish is a far cry from demonstrating immunity to infection in the real world. Show me a challenge study with SARS-CoV-2. Or an epidemiological study with all 7,324 SARS2003 survivors.
As for the rest, you're admitting I'm right and then saying I'm wrong anyway? What kind of nonsense is this?
God does good work. I don’t want to see the kids abused with vaccines they don’t need. DEMAND that they are given antibody tests....and they don’t need the vaccine if antibodies are present.
