In an ironic twist of events, the Pound Cake speech in which Bill Cosby famously (or, perhaps, infamously) criticized the black family and black neighborhood for what he deemed unsavory behavior was used to open the comedian to public scrutiny surrounding sexual assault allegations against him.

Prosecutors are trying to introduce evidence at trial that Kyle Rittenhouse is associated with the Proud Boys and that he had a past violent encounter on Kenosha’s lakefront. The state filed an “other acts” motion Thursday asking the court to admit evidence at Rittenhouse’s trial for shooting three men during protests in Kenosha last August. The shooting left two men dead and another seriously injured. Rittenhouse, 18, is charged with two counts of homicide and one of attempted homicide. He and his supporters have maintained that Rittenhouse was defending himself when he shot the men.

A recent survey found that only 9% of adults are aware that hospitals are now required to post their prices for services online. As of January 1, 2021, hospitals must list the prices of common health services on their website, under the hospital price transparency rule finalized by the Trump administration. The Kaiser Family Foundation Tracking Poll found that the vast majority of American adults do not know that this requirement exists that would allow them to shop for better prices for medical services. According to Fierce Healthcare, 69% said they are not sure hospitals are supposed to disclose their...

The Oath Against ModernismPope Pius X - 1910 THE OATH AGAINST MODERNISMTo be sworn to by all clergy, pastors, confessors, preachers, religious superiors, and professors in philosophical-theological seminaries.I . . . . firmly embrace and accept each and every definition that has been set forth and declared by the unerring teaching authority of the Church, especially those principal truths which are directly opposed to the errors of this day. And first of all, I profess that God, the origin and end of all things, can be known with certainty by the natural light of reason from the created world (see...

The Syllabus Of ErrorsPope BI. Pius IX - 1864 I. PANTHEISM, NATURALISM AND ABSOLUTE RATIONALISM1. There exists no Supreme, all-wise, all-provident Divine Being, distinct from the universe, and God is identical with the nature of things, and is, therefore, subject to changes. In effect, God is produced in man and in the world, and all things are God and have the very substance of God, and God is one and the same thing with the world, and, therefore, spirit with matter, necessity with liberty, good with evil, justice with injustice. — Allocution “Maxima quidem,” June 9, 1862.2. All action of...

Republicans need to abandon their longtime, reflexive loyalty to the FBI. It’s been a gold star week for the men and women of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Nearly six months after the events of January 6, the FBI, under the direction of Joe Biden’s vengeful Justice Department, is accelerating the nationwide manhunt for anyone involved. Since June 23, agents have arrested 17 people from Florida to California. Charges range from assaulting police officers and criminal trespassing to something called “destruction of property in special maritime and territorial jurisdiction and aiding and abetting.” The dragnet is part of the nonstop...

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Within a day of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s announcement of the MI Shot To Win Sweepstakes, approximately 464,698 people have applied for the chance to win $5 million, with 23,978 students having applied for the scholarship sweepstakes. The sweepstakes began yesterday and will end on August 3, 2021. This is an innovative way to encourage more Michiganders to get vaccinated, and I am delighted to see so much excitement for the kickoff of the MI Shot To Win Sweepstakes. We understand there are people out there who have questions, and maybe this will motivate them to seek...

Explanation: Awash in a sea of incandescent plasma and anchored in strong magnetic fields, sunspots are planet-sized dark islands in the solar photosphere, the bright surface of the Sun. Found in solar active regions, sunspots look dark only because they are slightly cooler though, with temperatures of about 4,000 kelvins compared to 6,000 kelvins for the surrounding solar surface. These sunspots lie in active region AR2835. The largest active region now crossing the Sun, AR2835 is captured in this sharp telescopic close-up from July 1 in a field of view that spans about 150,000 kilometers or over ten Earth diameters....

For the first half of 2021, the mRNA vaccines looked to be near perfect. The trials reported more than 90% efficacy for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Both provided near 100% prevention of severe COVID-19 and after hundreds of millions of adults received the shots, no signal of harm emerged. I, like any rational person, see a positive benefit-harm ratio from the vaccines for adults. Younger People? After a "positive" trial in which just over 1100 kids aged 12 to 15 years received an mRNA vaccine, a movement arose to vaccinate young and old alike. I put "positive" in quotes...

This is Alabama, folks... I'm sorry folks but I have reached an epiphany of obvious consequence and I can't keep quiet right now. On May 23, 2021 (just over a month ago) a city-driving motorist tried to turn right (no signal, no look) onto a perpendicular street FROM THE LEFT LANE, right while I was passing causing me to swerve and slam thru a curb totaling my beautiful '18 Nissan Altima SR. That idiot driver saw what he did, stopped, and then drove off never to be found. Luckily three witnesses stopped and gave statements to the officer which absolved...

Parents objecting to their children being taught that America is a racist country are “beginning to sound a lot like the KKK,” the editors at the Hartford Courant wrote Thursday. The editorial focused on a recent packed school board meeting in Guilford, Connecticut, during which parents and students condemned the teaching of principles associated with Critical Race Theory, a Marxist ideology that embraces the concept that all American institutions are systemically racist, with whites as oppressors and blacks as victims. The Courant editors wrote: How long is it going to be before those saying that white children are being taught...

President Joe Biden has a problem, and her name is Kamala Harris. The vice president has become a comic figure in today’s Washington—a politician given to missteps and unforced errors who inspires neither loyalty nor trust within her inner circle. She might have been Biden’s safest pick for running mate. But now she’s a liability for both the president and the Democratic Party. It’s not just that Harris is unpopular. Her unique combination of falsity and incompetence generates negative press and endangers her dreams of succeeding Biden. For Harris, the month of June has been an extended replay of highlights...
