Hypersonic cruise missiles which travel five times the speed of sound, are one step closer to being part of Australia’s arsenal. Last week Australia and the United States signed a new agreement to collaborate on developing and testing hypersonic cruise missile prototypes. When completed, the missiles will be able to traverse the distance of Sydney to Melbourne in just seven minutes. The missiles are difficult to stop not only because of their speed, but for their ability to slip past radar systems by gliding along the edge of the atmosphere. Hypersonics can also alter their route mid-flight. The weapons are...

Just donated and I see that CA is ahead by a large margin in donations! As a proud CA conservative, this is good but I am dismayed at the rest of the States that are not giving. Seems like CA always gets a bad vibe on FR. Give just $5 if you can. God bless all Freepers!

An idea that's simple as an abstraction--vaccine ID cards--turns out to be extremely difficult once real-world operational realities must be dealt with.Authorities around the world have made it clear that they will do "whatever it takes" to vaccinate their citizenry with one of the first available vaccines. Authoritarian states may mandate universal vaccinations while less authoritarian states will favor a "carrot and stick" approach of offering benefits to the vaccinated and exclusions from employment, education, travel and most of everyday life for those who refuse to be vaccinated. To identify the vaccinated and unvaccinated, many nations are planning to issue...

Chinese scientists claim to have built a quantum computer that is able to perform certain computations nearly 100 trillion times faster than the world’s most advanced supercomputer, representing the first milestone in the country’s efforts to develop the technology. The researchers have built a quantum computer prototype that is able to detect up to 76 photons through Gaussian boson sampling, a standard simulation algorithm, the state-run Xinhua news agency said, citing research published in Science magazine. That’s exponentially faster than existing supercomputers. The breakthrough represents a quantum computational advantage, also known as quantum supremacy, in which no traditional computer can...

At the time of Watergate, the French were completely mystified about what it was all about. "Of course, an incoming Administration rewards its supporters and prosecutes the prior Admin as much as it can", numerous French heads have civilly rolled. It's a fine tradition, in Pakistan, if you're a former head of state but haven't got the death penalty, you're a nobody. In the late 1960s, a newly-dead American Congressman was found to have $3.3 million under his bed. It was considered a grievous travesty; and even the fact that he didn't set up a foundation to garner $billions by...
