We learned this from three pages of State Department...

Ride-sharing company Lyft’s new turn-out-the vote effort in cities in five battleground states has sparked outrage from conservatives who think it is a ploy to help Democrats win in November. Lyft has formed a partnership with More Than A Vote, an advocacy group led by Black athletes including basketball player LeBron James, to provide free and discounted rides to polling locations in major cities in five key battlegrounds: Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina and Wisconsin. Tea Party Patriots’ Jenny Beth Martin said Thursday that her legal team is reviewing its options to challenge Lyft’s actions as a potentially “illegal corporate...
  • Last Honest Democrat Tulsi Gabbard and GOP Rep Introduce Election Fraud Prevention Act

The one last honest Democrat Rep. Tulsi Gabbard along with GOP Rep. Rodney Davis introduced the Election Fraud Prevention Act on Friday. The bill will outlaw the criminal act of ballot harvesting a tactic pushed by Democrat officials this year in states around the country. Ballot harvesting allows criminal political operatives to turn in late ballots of citizens who have not voted. This is a serious violation of the voting process. Of course, Democrats are for this. In 2018 Democrats stole several Congressional seats in California using ballot harvesting.
  • Scientists find 'secret molecule' that allows bacteria to exhale electricity

For mouthless, lungless bacteria, breathing is a bit more complicated than it is for humans. We inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide; Geobacter — a ubiquitous, groundwater-dwelling genus of bacteria — swallow up organic waste and "exhale" electrons, generating a tiny electric current in the process. Those waste electrons always need somewhere to go (usually into a plentiful underground mineral like iron oxide), and Geobacter have an unconventional tool to make sure they get there. "Geobacter breathe through what is essentially a giant snorkel, hundreds of times their size," That "snorkel" is called a nanowire. Though these tiny, conductive filaments...

The race for the Senate is real in Minnesota. Former Rep. Jason Lewis, who lost his suburban House seat in the Democratic wave election cycle of 2018, has returned, this time for a Senate seat in Minnesota, challenging incumbent Democratic Sen. Tina Smith. “When I started thinking about 2020, I knew 2018 was an outlier," Lewis told the Washington Examiner. "Those blue-collar Democrats, the working men and women who built this state and this country that helped almost give President Trump a victory here in 2016, did not vote with the same enthusiasm that they did in 2016." Lewis explained...

Dr. Anthony Fauci thinks that we'll probably never get rid of the coronavirus entirely. Still, he's pretty confident that by 2022, Americans should be able to resume most aspects of life as we knew it before the pandemic — "if we deploy a vaccine and we implement public-health measures." Read our wide-ranging interview below, in which we discuss Fauci's daily routine, his tips for holiday gatherings, his advice for how to keep your immune system "working optimally," and more. Dr. Anthony Fauci answers the phone at lunchtime while biting into a cold piece of pizza. The head of the National...
  • Venezuelan VLCC tanker suddenly turned into Russian

Venezuelan VLCC tanker AYACUCHO, changed flag early May this year, finding rather unusual substitute, now she’s registered under Russian flag and got a Russian name MAKSIM GORKY, though understood, she’s still operated by Venezuelan interests. All of sudden, this news hits today Russian top headlines, and a number of Russian mainstream outlets already called me, asking for interview. Russia has two Registers, one being International Russian Register, open for non-resident foreign companies. Venezuelan VLCC was registered in this second register, so for all purposes, VLCC may be considered registered under a FOC. What’s the purpose of it? I guess, it’s...

She’s come forward. She’s probably risking her life. No, she is; China wouldn’t tolerate this nonsense even if it was a prank. Dr. Li-Meng Yan, a Chinese virologist, has come forward to allege that the coronavirus was made in a laboratory and that the Chinese Communist Party released it intentionally. She says she has the evidence. She says it’ll be in a report that will be published soon. She appeared on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson’s show this week and social media censored the interview (via Fox News): Coronavirus whistleblower speaks out about possible COVID origin on 'Tucker' Carlson's comments came...

SCRANTON, PA—At a town hall event Thursday night, Biden claimed that Donald Trump is responsible for all deaths throughout human history since the dawn of creation. "Cain and Abel? That was Trump. Genghis Khan? Trump. Black Death? Yep, you guessed it: Trump," Biden said, carefully reading off his teleprompter. "It's science. You can't argue with science. Do you know who tries to argue with science? Dummies, that's who. And you don't want to be a dummy." At this point, his teleprompter malfunctioned. "You know, a ventriloquist came through our town with a dummy back in, oh, 1945 or so. Right...

That they’re easy to carry, often pocket-perfect and lightweight, inexpensive (or relatively so), and sold in drugstores, airport arcades, supermarkets, and many other venues outside the hallowed precincts of the glorious bookstore does not make them less worthy of a good life as a book. Many old and battered paperbacks are treasured by their owners, for content they can’t replace in another edition or for pure sentimental attachment. Who among us hasn’t got paperbacks that we can’t part with, even as we wonder what we can do to keep them going? Paperbacks’ chief fault lies in the often low-grade (inexpensive)...

The governor of Nigeria’s Kaduna state has signed a law saying men convicted of rape will face surgical castration, and anyone raping a child under age 14 will face the death penalty. Gov. Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai said the “drastic penalties are required to help further protect children from a serious crime.” Reported cases of rape in Nigeria have risen dramatically during the months of coronavirus restrictions. Women’s groups have called for tougher action against rapists, including the death penalty.
  • Fauci: We'll likely be wearing masks for most of 2021 even after a vaccine rolls out

Dr. Anthony Fauci says a vaccine alone is not going to "get us to the point where we want to be, by the end of 2021." We'll need to vaccinate, social distance, continue hand hygiene, and use masks in order to get the level of coronavirus circulating between people down so low that outbreaks become a thing of the past. The first coronavirus vaccines will likely not protect people from getting sick at 100%, but may provide somewhere around 70% protection against symptomatic infections.
  • Micky Dolenz recalls ill-fated Monkees tour with opening act Jimi Hendrix: ‘Yeah, it was kind of embarrassing’

Fifty years ago, on Sept. 18, 1970, guitar legend Jimi Hendrix died of asphyxia while intoxicated. He was only 27 years old, and his stint as a superstar lasted less than five years, but he obviously made his indelible mark — being declared by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as “arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music” and by Rolling Stone as the greatest guitarist of all time. And one of the first mainstream rock acts to recognize Hendrix’s greatness was the Monkees. Unfortunately, the Monkees’ young fans weren’t quite as enthusiastic when that TV...

President Donald Trump is returning to central Pennsylvania. The president is slated to appear at Harrisburg International Airport in Lower Swatara Township on Sat., Sept. 26. The event is slated to take place at 7 p.m. A release from the Trump campaign bills it as a “Great American Comeback Event.” Both Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, the former vice president, have made several visits to the Keystone State in recent months. Biden visited Harrisburg and Lancaster on Labor Day, speaking to union members and vowing to be an ally to unions in the White House. Both Trump and...

Call it a new 'Great Game' or war for hearts and minds, or just influence peddling, but Iran and Turkey are now engaged in greater efforts to expand their role in Africa. This comes as Russia and China are also extending networks on the continent. It is important to understand that this is in the context of the US generally reducing its global role and comes around 60 years after European colonialism was rolled back. The increasing footprint of Iran and Turkey have caused concern for other states that view their role as belligerent. That means that Gulf media is...

The blockbuster film Jaws has been a perennial favorite here on Martha’s Vineyard since its release 45 years ago. The epic 1975 feature film, shot on the Vineyard in iconic places like the picturesque fishing village of Menemsha, pits a fictional seaside tourist town called Amity against a villainous great white shark whose fearsome triangular teeth—300 of them—bite and kill unsuspecting townspeople and summer visitors enjoying the local Atlantic Ocean waters. Jaws played recently at a COVID-safe drive-in theater here, allowing viewers to scream in the privacy of their own cars. The movie took a deep dive into the psyche...

A former White House coronavirus official praised the “unwavering” work of the president's COVID-19 task force in her departure letter, before accusing President Trump of having a “flat out disregard for human life” and saying the "ongoing response" was "a failure." In an interview with the Washington Post published on Thursday, Olivia Troye became the first official who worked extensively on the pandemic response to speak out against Trump, saying that his actions cost lives. “The president’s rhetoric and his own attacks against people in his administration trying to do the work, as well as the promulgation of false narratives...

The aftermath of his collapse was captured on camera, as was the actions of a young man who sitting in front of him. As Bass is seen lying on the ground unconscious, at first sight it appears as though the young man is helping the veteran. But reality painted a much darker picture. 8News learned that the...

For a final assignment to cap a five-year posting to China, I never would have chosen this. But deep inside a cavernous setup of tight corridors and shelves, I'm standing in the dark, sweating profusely as the rain-like sound of millions of cockroaches eating fills the silence. It's a peaceful ambience that would go well on one of those calming sleep apps. Everything else about the situation would probably keep people awake. Around me on walls, the ceiling and floors, cockroaches large and small scurry about, scattering whenever my cameraman Steve Wang points his camera light at them. This is...
