Mulan — based on the 1998 animated film and starring Liu Yifei as the titular girl who poses as a boy to take her father’s place in China’s imperial army — was originally slated to be released in theaters back in March, but was delayed due to the global...

Virgin Galactic announced in May that it would be partnering with NASA to work toward high-speed, high altitude point-to-point travel for commercial airline passengers. The plan is to eventually create an aircraft that can fly above 60,000 feet (the cruising altitude of the Concorde) and carry between 9 and 19 people per flight, with a cabin essentially set up to provide each of those passengers with either Business or First Class-style seating and service. One other key element of the design is that it can be powered by next-gen sustainable fuel for more ecological operation. In some ways, this project...

An interesting development since the Covid lockdowns in the City on the Bay has been the clandestine placement of homeless people in luxury hotels, such as the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins on Nob Hill. As it turns out, the government is using unlikely public employees who otherwise would have been furloughed to serve as vice couriers for them. One such city staffer, for example, was a curator with the San Francisco city museums before the shut down, said an informed city source who requested anonymity. “Being the museums were closed, [this person] would stay on the payroll as a ‘runner,’ delivering...

An internal audit of 29 warrant applications submitted by the FBI to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court found only minor clerical errors in a process that has come under heavy political scrutiny in recent years. The findings were revealed in a court filing Wednesday and stem from an independent review of the FBI's application process for surveillance warrants by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz. The DOJ watchdog concluded in a report earlier this year that the FBI had made over a dozen errors in its applications to look into Carter Page, a foreign policy adviser to President Trump's 2016...

In the midst of a heated nationwide debate on sending children back to school during the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Mike DeWine announced a statewide mask mandate for students headed to in-person school this fall. The mandate affects grades K-12. Under previous guidance, only teachers and staff were required to wear face coverings. Schools were left to decide face covering policies. The state will work with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to distribute two million masks to schools, DeWine said. “Frankly this gives us the best shot that we can,” he said.

Having already left her previous job running the Ohio Department of Health, Dr. Amy Acton is now leaving state government altogether, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Tuesday. Minutes after DeWine announced the news during his twice-weekly coronavirus briefing, the Columbus Foundation announced it has hired Acton to run Kind Columbus, which the nonprofit describes as being “dedicated to spreading the words and actions of kindness as a defining value for our region.” The program, through community partners, helps fund programs for people in need, according to Columbus Foundation spokeswoman Natalie Parscher. This could involve providing direct support to someone dealing with...

CNN’s chief media correspondent Brian Stelter on Monday blamed right-wing media outlets for putting forward the suggestion that Joe Biden shouldn’t debate President Trump. What Stelter said: Stelter was responding to a tweet from Townhall.com’s political editor Guy Benson, who said the push for Biden to skip debates with the president is a “media tempest.” Stelter wrote: “it is mostly a right-wing media tempest, fueled by hour after hour of Fox commentary (not reporting), far removed from campaign reality…”

Demetria Brown knew the exact moment she decided she'd had it. She'd just watched a video of George Floyd pinned under an officer's knee, saying he couldn't breathe as he begged for his life. She sobbed as she played it over and over. On June 1, a week after Floyd's death, she quit her job as a detention officer for the Los Angeles County Probation Department. In the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic, she sold her house, stuffed her belongings into 13 duffel bags and relocated to Puerto Vallarta on Mexico's Pacific coast. Brown, 42, is one of many...

President Trump urged Florida residents Tuesday to vote by mail, after months of criticizing mail-in voting as susceptible to fraud. “Whether you call it Vote by Mail or Absentee Voting, in Florida the election system is Safe and Secure, Tried and True,” Mr. Trump tweeted. “Florida’s Voting system has been cleaned up (we defeated Democrats attempts at change), so in Florida I encourage all to request a Ballot & Vote by Mail! #MAGA” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said the president “has always said that absentee voting for a reason is different than mass mail-out voting...” Florida Republican officials...

President Donald Trump again extended well-wishes to accused sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, apparently expressing sympathy for Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime companion. “Her friend, or boyfriend, was either killed or committed suicide in jail. She’s now in jail,” Trump told Axios’ Jonathan Swan in a conversation that aired Monday night on HBO.... Trump flew on one of Epstein’s planes at least once, according to flight logs, while Clinton made several trips overseas on Epstein’s aircraft. Epstein was also a benefactor of the Clinton Foundation. Epstein was reportedly a regular at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club,

On Friday, President Donald Trump pointed to the chaotic primary election in New York's 12th Congressional District as a portent of what the nation might expect should Democrats succeed in their scheme to vastly expand mail-in voting for the general election in November. Though the primary was held on June 23, a clear winner is not known due to a large number of absentee ballots that were disqualified by the state's Board of Elections.

The European Union needs to “work hand in hand” with China as a matter of necessity given the economic havoc wreaked by the coronavirus pandemic, said a top EU official in charge of Tuesday’s trade talks with Beijing. Chaired by Chinese Vice-Premier Liu He, the meeting comes as Brussels is hoping to clinch a landmark investment deal with China this year, though progress has been slow. “By pulling together, we can recover more quickly economically, and make progress on areas of mutual interest such as trade and investment relations,” European Commission Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis told Politico ahead of the...
