Pope to Pro-Migrant Radical: ‘Count on Me’ Francis seeks open ports while closing churches ROME (ChurchMilitant.com) - Pope Francis is being accused of "detesting Italy, Italians and Catholics" after he penned a handwritten letter on Good Friday to one of Italy's most notorious open-borders activists, assuring him, "I am always available to help." In his epistle to Luca Casarini, an ultra-left militant who is being investigated for aiding illegal immigration, the pontiff wrote: "I am close to you and your companions. Thanks for all you do." Casarini lost no time in bragging to the media. "Pope Bergoglio replied to my letter, he is one of...

Yours truly was one of many who early on cheered the government for aggressively curbing everyone’s activity to slow the spread of COVID-19. At the time, it seemed such a clear choice between life and death. Admittedly, I was squeamish endorsing government controls, something I’ve spent decades writing to oppose. What could possibly go wrong? As Benjamin Franklin said: “Those who would give up essential Liberty to purchase a little temporary Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Franklin recognized a false trade-off when he saw one. It took yours truly only a couple weeks to see the same picture. Every...

As we struggle to get a grip on exactly how COVID-19 makes us ill and what we can do about it, researchers have created over 50,000 articles. That's a lot of information! So, how do you make sense of it all? Verizon Media is doing it by using Vespa. This is an open-source, big data processing program to create a coronavirus academic research search engine: CORD-19 Search.

Death penalty states have been asked to hand over their stockpiles of drugs used in lethal injections to instead help save the lives of hundreds of patients admitted to intensive care units after contracting the coronavirus. Seven medical practitioners and experts addressed a letter to state correctional facility directors urging them to turn over their supplies of sedatives and paralytics to hospitals where they can be used for intubation and mechanical ventilation in critically ill COVID-19 patients. “Health care workers across the United States are facing unprecedented shortages of vital resources needed to battle COVID-19,” the letter said. Scarce resources...

The March 2020 issue of Fortune magazine focused on the "existential threat" to the Earth posed by global warming, despite the fact that no significant global warming seems to be taking place. With its appealing cover art — an image of the Earth tied up in a plastic trash bag — this issue is just what I'd expect from a liberal outfit. It's typical of climate alarmists to begin by assuming their premise: warming is an existential threat because, well, it is. And anyone who questions that premise is a criminal. Just what is meant by "existential threat" is a...

Dozens of people have been arrested in the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht after migration-background youths staged a riot and fired shots from a stolen police service weapon. The trigger for the riot in the European Union capital — which is under strict lockdown as Belgium experiences one of the worst per capita coronavirus death tolls in the world — seems to have been the death of a 19-year-old identified as “Adil”.

"We are seeing the most draconian measures enforced at all levels of government that we've ever seen in our lifetimes, and yet rather than being alarmed by the things going on, so many of you applaud. People are being arrested for spending too much time outside, and you applaud. Pastors are being arrested for daring to hold church services, and you applaud. A child's birthday party is raided by police, and you applaud. A young woman is ticketed for going on a leisurely drive alone because it's deemed 'non-essential travel', and you applaud. A parade of school teachers and administrators...

Beijing (AFP) - Beijing denied Monday that it was soliciting praise for its handling of the coronavirus pandemic following a report that Chinese representatives tried to earn kudos from German officials. China has faced criticism abroad -- notably in the United States -- over the outbreak that first emerged in the central city of Wuhan late last year. It has sent aid to European countries in recent weeks, a move seen as a charm offensive to deflect blame for the pandemic. Citing a confidential foreign ministry document, Germany's Die Welt newspaper reported Sunday that senior officials and staff at German...

Documents obtained by The Mail on Sunday show the Wuhan Institute of Virology undertook coronavirus experiments on mammals captured more than 1,000 miles away in Yunnan – funded by a $3.7 million grant from the US government. Now The Mail on Sunday has learned that scientists there experimented on bats as part of a project funded by the US National Institutes of Health, which continues to licence the Wuhan laboratory to receive American money for experiments. Results of the research were published in November 2017 under the heading: 'Discovery of a rich gene pool of bat SARS-related coronaviruses provides new insights into the origin...

The great paradox of the American Left is that it aspires to collectivism, but can only get it through tribalism. Every Democrat presidential primary is a frantic effort by collectivist candidates to amass enough tribal support from different identity politics groups to secure the collectivist nomination. Senator Bernie Sanders, the great socialist hope of collectivism, tried to rope in Latinos and black Democrats, succeeded with the former, failed with the latter, and lost South Carolina. And everything. When lefties switched from class warfare to identity politics, they became hopelessly mired in tribalism. Their old animating principle of an egalitarian...

The city council of Greenville, Miss. and Greenville Mayor Errick Simmons issued an executive order that banned all in-person church services, effective from April 7 until Missouri Gov. Tate Reeves lifts the state’s stay-at-home order. Fox News reported many churches planned to drive-in services as a means of negotiating the need for social distancing with in-person services, especially during Easter week.

Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. today filed a lawsuit against WJFW-NBC of Rhinelander, WI for defamation in the wake of an advertisement carried by the station that contained intentionally false and defamatory statements about President Trump. The ad produced by Priorities USA, a super PAC supporting Joe Biden’s candidacy, and broadcast by WJFW-NBC, used digitally manipulated clips of President Trump’s voice to fabricate unsubstantiated meaning in the President’s words. The suit, filed in Price County, WI circuit court, followed a cease-and-desist letter and supporting documentation sent on March 25, 2020. In spite of the letter and documentation, WJFW-NBC continued...

Posts Posted on April 12, 2020April 12, 2020 A Chronology of the Resurrection Appearances When we encounter the resurrection accounts in the New Testament, we face a challenge in putting all the pieces together in such a way that the sequence of events flows in logical order. This is due to the fact that no one Gospel presents all or even most of the information. Some of the accounts seem to conflict. I have opined before (HERE) that these apparent conflicts are usually not in fact true conflicts. Another difficulty with putting all the facts together in a coherent...

Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House task force, said he’s “humble enough” to realize that other solutions to stem the spread of the coronavirus exist other than to shut down the economy, but said that was the “choice we made.” Fauci was asked during an appearance on Fox News’ “Watters World” about critics who said closing the economy led to Americans’ losing their jobs and their livelihoods. “We felt at the time and still do now that that was the right thing to do. Could there have been other approaches? I mean I’m humble enough to know...

Despite political infighting, state leaders have taken the time to thank the White House for its assistance during these troubling times. On Friday, California Governor Gavin Newsom praised President Trump’s efforts to help his state during the COVID-19 crisis. Newsom, who has frequently clashed with the White House, touted the president’s ability to get a Navy ship to California, which was deployed to help alleviate pressure on local health centers and nursing homes. “Every single direct request that he was capable of meeting, he has met,” stated Newsom. “We have the USNS Mercy in California because of his direct intervention...
