In Showtime’s Shameless, seedy storylines are not unusual. In fact, it’s the norm. In the episode airing January 5, titled "O Captain, My Captain", as part of a side hustle, bar owners Kevin Ball and Veronica Fisher decide to make medical abortions available to teenagers. Kevin (Steve Howey) and Veronica "V" (Shanola Hampton) open a mobile health care van to service local residents in need. It was to be a simple operation to make extra money. Veronica has a little medical experience as a doctor’s assistant. The episode was silly enough with the idea of a mobile health care van...

Being Iranian American is like being the child of divorced parents who refuse get along, not even for the kids. Growing up as one of these embattled children, conflict embedded in my DNA, I’ve never known a moment when my two homelands have been anything short of archenemies. Thus, what most of the world experiences as an external, geopolitical conflict, I and my fellow Iranian Americans experience as an internal, deeply personal one. These are our parents you’re talking about, and we love them both, even when we hate them. But lately - between the American regime’s targeted assassination of...

The U.S. media's peculiar (albeit predictable) response to President Donald Trump's successful assassination of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani continued on Monday during their coverage of the terrorist's funeral in Tehran. NPR had reporters on the ground covering the "historic day" and attempting to dispel claims that the grief on display in the streets of the Iranian capital was in any way "coerced" by the authoritarian regime. Michael Barbaro of the New York Times highlighted the "amazing images and audio" from the NPR team. Several hours earlier, Barbaro posted a bizarre podcast interview with Times reporter Helene Cooper in which Cooper...

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says Republicans have enough votes to approve rules for President Trump’s impeachment trial — without agreeing to Democratic demands on witnesses. The announcement Tuesday is a bid to force House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to transmit two articles of impeachment, allowing Trump’s trial to begin. “We have the votes once the impeachment trial has begun to pass a resolution,” McConnell said at a press conference. “All we’re doing here is saying we’re going to get started in exactly the same way that 100 senators agreed to 20 years ago [for Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial],” McConnell said....

Economic giants, the flagships of the Ukrainian industry, one by one are falling apart. The result can be truly disastrous for the Ukrainian economy this year, the consequences of which will haunt us for a long time. Industrial statistics shows the start of the disaster. New data of the state statistics for November indicate a decline in industrial output of 6.9%. Logical consequences in the short term are increasing unemployment and a new wave of emigration. Against the background of strengthening of the hryvnia and a complete misunderstanding of the situation by the government on what to do with it,...

U.S. Sens. Brian Schatz and Tim Kaine have introduced a War Powers Resolution in an attempt to force a debate and vote in Congress to prevent further escalation of hostilities with Iran, Schatz said. “Congress, not the president, has the constitutional authority to declare war, and I oppose a war with Iran,” Schatz, D-Hawaii, said Monday in a release. “No one mourns the death of Iranian Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, a ruthless terrorist responsible for the deaths of thousands, including hundreds of Americans.” But Trump’s decision to have him killed him near Baghdad airport “carries serious strategic consequences for which...

Thousands of camels in South Australia will be killed to stop them drinking water in the drought-stricken region following a plea from Aboriginal leaders. More than 10,000 feral camels will be shot using professional shooters in helicopters from Wednesday. The action will be taken following complaints that the thirsty animals are invading properties in search of water in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara lands (AYP). The five-day long culling also follows fears that the camels are a contributor to global warming as they emit methane gases equating to one tonne of carbon dioxide a year. Tim Moore, chief executive of carbon...

Over the next few days, it will be hard to escape footage of huge crowds gathering in Iranian cities to mourn the death of Qasem Soleimani, the Iranian general killed by a U.S. drone strike. For anyone watching, I have one piece of advice: Don’t take what you’re seeing at face value. This past November, thousands of Iranians took to the streets across the country to protest against the regime, in the biggest challenge to the clerical rule in 40 years. According to Reuters, more than 1,500 people were killed by security forces, including units of Soleimani’s Revolutionary Guard, and...

COVINGTON, Ky. (FOX19) - CNN agreed Tuesday to settle a lawsuit with Covington Catholic student Nick Sandmann. The amount of the settlement was not made public during a hearing at the federal courthouse in Covington, Kentucky. Sandmann’s lawsuit sought $800 million from CNN, the Washington Post and NBC Universal. Trial dates are still not set for Sandmann’s lawsuit against NBC Universal and the Washington Post. The Washington Post suit sought $250 million. A federal judge let a portion of the suit go forward after The Post filed a motion to dismiss it. Sandmann’s attorney, Lin Wood, said, “This case will...

There’s been a lot of talk and bluster (more so than normal) on Capitol Hill in the aftermath of the House’s vote last month to impeach President Trump. Much of it has centered on why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other House Democratic leaders like Intel Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA) have decided to sit on the articles of impeachment for what appears to be an indefinite period of time instead of pushing forward as they did after Pelosi declared the impeachment inquiry back in September.Because Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has made it clear the Senate has no...

CNN reportedly agreed Tuesday to settle a $275 million lawsuit filed by Covington Catholic student Nicholas Sandmann over the network’s coverage of his viral encounter with an elderly Native American activist. The details of the settlement were not disclosed during proceedings at the federal courthouse in Covington, Kentucky, according to Fox19 in Cincinnati. The teen’s family filed lawsuits against CNN, NBCUniversal and the Washington Post over reporting on the January 2019 incident in which Nicholas was filmed standing face-to-face with Omaha elder Nathan Phillips as he played a drum on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

RUSH: Hi, folks. We didn’t have a chance yesterday to do a post mortem on the Trump interview because the show ended, so we didn’t have a chance to discuss it. Now, I thought the president made news at least three times in that interview, maybe four, if news coverage of the president were conventional. But news coverage of the president isn’t conventional. Most of the coverage, we’ve done a review of it, it’s kind of hilarious. Most of them are ticked off that he was on with me and not with them. And that’s what drove them in their...

Some plants emit a high frequency distress sound when they are placed under environmental stress, a team of researchers at Tel Aviv University in Israel has found. The team, led by Itzhak Khait, examined the sounds emitted by tomato and tobacco plants when stressed by insufficient water or when their stems are cut. Microphones recorded ultrasonic sounds between 20 and 100 kilohertz emitted by the plants in both cases, the study found. The sounds emitted by the stressed plants are at frequencies unable to be heard by humans, however the team of scientists believes “some organisms” can hear the sounds...

Presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg said Monday he has no regrets for his support for the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. “I don’t live in a regret world, and I didn’t make the decision,” Bloomberg said in a sit-down interview with the Los Angeles Times. “America wanted to go to war, but it turns out it was based on faulty intelligence, and it was a mistake,” the billionaire former mayor added. “But I think the people that made the mistake did it honestly, and it’s a shame, because it’s left us entangled, and it’s left the Middle East in chaos...

Joe Biden confused Iran for Iraq during a foreign policy speech addressing President Trump’s decision to order a deadly airstrike on top Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani. In what was supposed to be a major foreign policy speech, Biden twice confused Iran for Iraq and did not correct himself. "Iran's Parliament, IRAN'S PARLIAMENT voted to eject all Americans and coalition forces from the country..."

This is not encouraging. Not encouraging at all. – Early Tuesday afternoon, lawyers for the Justice Department prosecuting the case against Lt. General Mike Flynn revised their previous sentencing recommendation in the case. Last year they had recommended a probationary sentence for the former National Security Advisor, who pled guilty to lying the the FBI during their ambush interview of him in the early days of the Trump Administration. Today, the DOJ lawyers – one of whom participated in the Mueller Witch Hunt – revised their recommendation to jail time of 0 to 6 months. As reported by Fox News:...

The inspiringly patriotic Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Tehran, no, check that, I’m hearing she’s from Minnesota) tweeted Monday offering some unsolicited military advice to the Islamic Republic of Iran: “Trump needs to immediately divest from his businesses and comply with the emoluments clause. Iran could threaten Trump hotels *worldwide* and he could provoke war over the loss of revenue from skittish guests. His business interests should not be driving military decisions.” She also tweeted a video in which the late comedian George Carlin asserts that the U.S. is “not very good at anything” besides war. And so once again we have...
