Americans are nearly evenly split between those who are skeptical of most political polls but trust certain sources and those who trust most but are skeptical of certain sources, according to a new HillTV/Harris poll. Thirty-four percent of respondents said they believe most results but do not trust certain sources, compared to 32 percent who do not believe most results but do trust certain sources. Twenty-two percent said they almost never believe poll results, compared to 11 percent who said they almost always believe them. The results found no gender gap, with men and women within the margin of error...

Charlie Brown would certainly be proud of this "great pumpkin." NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope has found a massive nebula in deep space that "looks like a celestial jack-o'-lantern." The study's researchers have given it the nickname "Jack-o'-lantern Nebula," apropos for Halloween. It's likely that a star, known as an O-type star, approximately 15 to 20 times heavier than our Sun, is "responsible for sculpting this cosmic pumpkin," NASA JPL said in a statement on its website.

Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged to protect Christians threatened by the conflict in Syria, appealing to the plight of religious minorities as justification for Russia's involvement. After a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Wednesday, Putin expressed sorrow over the persecution experienced by Christians in the Middle East, according to the Associated Press. Russian leaders have worked to develop close ties with Syria's Christian communities. Melkite Catholic Archbishop Jean-Clement Jeanbart has called Russia's intervention in the country a source of "hope for the country's Christians. "The Middle East is the cradle of Christianity, and Christians are in peril...

  • "Justification Is the Article on Which the Church Stands or Falls" (Sermon, Reformation Day, Rom. 3)

“Justification Is the Article on Which the Church Stands or Falls” (Romans 3:19-28) There is a saying attributed to Luther that, in the Latin, goes like this: “Justificatio est articulus stantis et cadentis ecclesiae.” Which, being translated, means: “Justification is the article on which the church stands or falls.” Dear friends, on this Reformation Day I submit to you that this is what the whole Reformation was about, namely, the doctrine of justification. This is the article of doctrine on which everything else depends. It is the article on which the church stands or falls. What’s more, it is the...

After a Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy invited a man to slap him in the face, the lawman returned the slap with enough force to knock the older man to the ground, prosecutors said. Now that deputy, Ellison Collins, faces a charge of assault in the September 2018 incident. A Harris County grand jury indicted the deputy on Tuesday, the district attorney’s office said. The incident occurred outside of an IHOP when Collins, 39, encountered the man in the parking lot. Collins invited 61-year-old Jerry Allen Vaco to slap him in the face and after Vaco did, Collins returned the...

It isn’t supposed to be this cold in October. The official start of winter is still almost two months away, and yet the weather in much of the western half of the country right now resembles what we might expect in mid-January. All-time record lows for the month of October are being set in city after city, and this extremely cold air is going to push into the Midwest by the end of the week. Temperatures in the heartland will be up to 50 degrees below normal, and unfortunately about half of all corn still has not been harvested. Due...

You may read it here first: This sordid, contemptible impeachment ruse is finally disintegrating. It was another fraud, and I predict that this time the polls will move clearly in the president’s favor. There are limits to how often his enemies can get the public and the world to the edges of their chairs with their fantastic accusations. The Economist, a long-respected magazine in earlier times, told us a year ago that the Trump presidency was hanging on the thread of Michael Cohen’s testimony. Most of the American press gave the public to understand for two years that there was...

Meteorologist Paul Dorian: "Perhaps the most amazing temperature recorded in this unusual cold spell for the western US took place earlier today in the remote observing station of Peter Sinks, Utah...the unofficial overnight low temperature there of -43.6 ºF is pretty amazing for this time of year and perhaps the lowest temperature ever recorded in the Lower 48 during the month of October. Nearby Salt Lake City, Utah provided some supporting evidence of the extreme cold as it set a low temperature record of 14 ºF for the date and records there go all the way back to 1874.

During Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday night, President Donald Trump's campaign launched a seven-figure national ad buy -- a 30-second commercial touting his first-term accomplishments on terrorism, the economy and immigration. But the real key to the ad -- and the bit that you need to pay very close attention to -- comes in the final moments of the commercial, when the narrator says this: "He's no Mr. Nice Guy. But sometimes it takes a Donald Trump to change Washington." Those two sentences are hugely telling when it comes to understanding how Trump (and his campaign) are...

A heroin addict with nearly 20 arrests to his name allegedly dragged a cop along a busy Bronx street while fleeing a traffic stop, forcing another lawman to shoot him — and a jury just handed him an $11 million payday, The Post has learned. Raoul Lopez took the city to court over the harrowing 2006 run-in that left him partially paralyzed on his right side, and was awarded the eight-figure sum by a Bronx jury Tuesday. Lopez, 27 when the encounter happened, was in the midst of “a two-week-long bender” and had just scored his latest fix on Feb....
  • With Cuomo Focused on Vaping, Lawmakers Look to Ban Menthol Cigarettes

With a rash of vaping-related lung illnesses across the nation, including one death in New York State, Governor Cuomo is looking to ban flavored nicotine products. "The priority, I believe, is vaping. That's young people. That's young people who are dying," Cuomo said. But smoking still kills and sickens far more people. There are roughly 28,000 deaths from smoking in New York State each year, and roughly 750,000 people are living with smoking-related illnesses. Lawmakers are looking to ban menthol cigarettes in New York State, which often are marketed to young people, and African-Americans. "Over 80% of African-Americans prefer to...

Laura Ingraham continued to pressure Senate Republicans on Wednesday, just a day after she urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to "stand up" against House Democrats, saying there is no Republican Party in 2020 without President Trump. "Naturally, Republican senators are being bombarded by Never Trumpers and Democrats," Ingraham said on "The Ingraham Angle. "Take a principled stand against the White House! Protect your party's future! Stand against Trump!," she mocked. ""Spare us. The crisis is the Democrats' own making, and it's up to Republicans to ensure that this never happens to any president of either party again." Ingraham delivered...
