“On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding” (John 2:1–2). A wedding was a major social event in first-century Palestine, and the ensuing celebration could last as long as a week. It marked the culmination of the betrothal period, which often lasted for several months. The couple was considered legally man and wife during their betrothal period. They did not, however, live together or consummate the marriage during that time (cf. Matt. 1:18). On the night of the...

The problem for him, his long-suffering parents and now...

The moon is all the rage these days. China wants to send people there. So too does the United States and NASA. In fact, just about every country with a space program has some sort of lunar ambition that they hope will play out over the next few years. Now, there’s a new entrant in this new space race, a nonprofit organization called the Open Lunar Foundation. Based in San Francisco, it’s a group made up of tech executives and engineers—many of them with former ties to NASA—who have serious ambitions to create a lunar settlement. The driving ethos behind...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday it is “not fair” to either Turkey or the United States that Washington cannot sell Ankara billions of dollars worth of F-35 fighter jets after it bought a Russian air defense system. Turkey started taking delivery of Russia’s S-400 air defense system last week in defiance of U.S. warnings that the Pentagon would kick it out of the F-35 stealth fighter program Washington’s concern is that deploying the S-400 with the F-35 would allow Russia to gain too much inside information of the stealth system. Thomas Karako, an analyst at...

After weighing options in Pittsburgh, Detroit and several cities in Florida, Egnyte, a cloud storage company from Silicon Valley, opened a Raleigh office on Thursday with plans to eventually hire 120 people. My Wife, Judy, had been after me for several weeks to varnish the wooden seat on our toilet. Finally, I got around to doing it while Judy was out. After finishing, I left to take care of another matter before she returned. She came in and undressed to take a shower. Before getting in the shower, she sat on the toilet. As she tried to stand up, she realized that the not-quite-dry epoxy paint had glued her to the toilet seat. About that time, I got home and realized her predicament. We both pushed and pulled without any success whatsoever....

… For 44 years, Robert Moses ruled over New York. Unelected, his power drawn from up to 12 concurrent city, state and federal appointments, he used his unparalleled control of public authorities with impunity. Deftly utilizing loopholes and creating new law, Moses had his own shadow government, with his own police force, flag, and an island under the Triborough (now Robert F. Kennedy) Bridge. There is no debate over the sheer magnitude of what he built. His accomplishments bestride New York: 416 miles of highways, 13 bridges, 658 playgrounds and housing for 150,000 people. He constructed parkways, tunnels, beaches, zoos,...

French unrest continues despite President Macron’s intention to delay the gas tax, the subject of the protests. To compliment the scenes of first responders joining the protesters, are videos of hidden snipers and one yellow vest possibly being shot in the street. Looking at the turmoil, I can not help but think how something very similar could have happened here, had Hillary the Traitor won. Even now with President Trump in office, such a turn of events is not unthinkable. Daily we Americans still bear the humiliating taunts of a two-tiered justice system. We are reminded a different set of...

Schools across New York began the academic year with a new tool intended to prevent student suicides and violence: the ability to ask a court to remove a troubled person's access to firearms. About a third of U.S. states have so-called "red flag" laws, which allow courts to temporarily seize guns from people believed to be a danger to themselves or others, but New York is the first to empower schools to petition a court themselves for such an order, rather than go through local law enforcement. In New York, school principals are now allowed to petition the court for...

Goldman Sachs (GS) on Tuesday launched its "most ambitious" recruiting campaign to attract its next generation of talent. With Wall Street appearing a less desirable career path for younger workers, the banking giant released its new "Day In The Life" campaign that seeks to set the record straight on what it's like to work at the 150-year-old firm. “One of our primary objectives for brand marketing at Goldman Sachs is to showcase the firm as an employer of choice,” said Amanda Rubin, global co-head of brand and content strategy. “We are highly focused on marketing’s role in attracting talent and...

Senior Tories rebuff Brexit party leader’s offer of no-deal election pact The Brexit party’s leader, Nigel Farage, has been heavily criticised by Boris Johnson’s team as “not fit and proper” in an outright rejection of his offer of a pre-election, no-deal Brexit pact. Farage offered to help the embattled prime minister secure a majority at a snap general election, on the proviso he dropped plans to renegotiate the Brexit withdrawal agreement and the backstop arrangement on the Northern Irish border. He said the prime minister should accept he needed the Brexit party’s help to take out key Labour seats but...

Subtitle: September 5th. George Mason prefers the government of Prussia. As we know, the Convention adjourned on September 17th and forwarded the draft Constitution to Congress. At this late stage, delegates were rapidly filling-in the Constitution’s various powers and limits. It’s all the more amazing they still squirmed over how to elect a President. Tempers flared. In their quest to craft a suitable presidential election mode, the delegates failed once again; they ended the day where they began: The executive power of the U. S. shall be vested in a single person. His stile shall be "The President of the...

Speaking at at the historic Ball & Chain nightclub on Sunday afternoon to mark the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, Biden slammed the president's June 2015 comments about Mexican immigrants during his 2016 campaign announcement speech. "He announced on the way down, one of the reasons he was running was because of all those Mexican rapists."
