JERUSALEM, Israel – Archaeologists in Israel say they may have discovered the true location of Emmaus, the Biblical town where Jesus first appeared to two of his followers after being crucified and resurrected. Haaretz reports that researchers found the massive 2,200-year-old walls of a Hellenistic fortification believed to have been built by the Seleucid general who defeated Judah the Maccabee, the Jewish leader spoken of in the Hanukkah story. Since 2017, a Franco-Israeli team has been excavating a hill overlooking Jerusalem known as Kiriath Yearim, an area believed to be where the Ark of the Covenant was kept for 20...

President Trump on Tuesday endorsed Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) for his reelection bid in 2020, sending a message of support for one of his more outspoken Republican critics on Capitol Hill. “Senator Ben Sasse has done a wonderful job representing the people of Nebraska. He is great with our Vets, the Military, and your very important Second Amendment. Strong on Crime and the Border, Ben has my Complete and Total Endorsement!” Trump tweeted. Sasse, who officially announced his reelection bid in August, has been one of the few GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill to criticize the White House and had...

With all of the social and personal turmoil that develops during the teenage years, a new study finds teens who hold off on dating have better social skills, are happier, and are less depressed. This finding goes against American culture in terms of every movie or television show that portrays teenagers in high school. Some believe that dating is just a part of being a teenager. Forming a romantic relationship for the first time can help in a teenager's own self-esteem. Researchers at the University of Georgia say that's true, but they've also found that not dating could be even...

Republican Dan Bishop defeated Democrat Dan McCready in a close special election in North Carolina’s ninth congressional district Tuesday night. Bishop, a conservative Republican currently serving in the North Carolina State Senate, based his campaign on strong support for the Trump agenda. The president, for his part, strongly supported Bishop. On Monday, the night before the election, Trump appeared with Bishop at a boisterous rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina in the conservative eastern part of the district. At the rally, Trump heavily criticized McCready for supporting the socialist agenda of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Squad.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Michigan’s far left of left Democratic congresswoman, called for a complete transformation of America’s government — a “political revolution” and “economic” overhaul to change the capitalistic system and, as she framed it, to put the people, not the corporations, back in power. This is not simply a difference of political differences; a Democrat view versus a Republican view. This is treasonous. It’s treason wrapped in a social justice ribbon. Tlaib is a member of the U.S. Congress, bound by oath of office to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Yet this is...

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) said it’s unclear whether lawmakers can reach a bipartisan deal on gun legislation following a meeting with fellow Republican leaders at the White House on Tuesday. The Louisiana Republican said while "good faith negotiations and conversations" are taking place between parties and chambers, he doesn’t feel the bills Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has advocated for the Senate to take up would prevent future instances of mass violence. Scalise said Tuesday’s talks centered around both potential new measures aimed at preventing future shootings and improving the implementation of current laws. "We talked about some of...

The Atlantic on Monday published a lengthy account of the Trump family’s rise, political aspirations and, allegedly, the infighting between Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. including suspicions of planted stories about the other. That reporting has been enthusiastically denied by the White House, where Ivanka works as a senior aide to her dad, President Donald Trump. Discussing the story on Tuesday’s episode of The View, however, co-host Meghan McCain said she trusted what it showed, calling it “illuminating.” But she said she wasn’t as moved to empathy about the family as co-host Abby Huntsman. “I found myself feeling sorry...

SCITUATE — A minke whale carcass was found Monday afternoon in the surf at Humarock Beach, making for the fourth found in the region this summer. At the beach, New England Aquarium’s marine animal rescue team found the carcass of a 22-foot-long sub-adult. The whale is believed to have died within the last few days. The carcass had been significantly scavenged by sharks. A full necropsy couldn’t be performed because of the amount of tissue that had been eaten, but the good condition of the skin on the pectoral fins and back indicated that the whale had died recently. There...

There's a new, easy-to-program welding robot launching in November, and for many in the industry it comes not a moment too soon. That's because there are massive labor shortages in the American welding sector. The robot, called the BotX Welder, is a direct response to industry hiring problems, along with the persistent challenge faced by fabrication companies in producing precision parts in small batches. It's also a feat of engineering and a good example of how automation companies are now standing on the shoulders of a generation of developers who created the underlying technology that's now being deployed to address...

Few races are as convoluted as the one in North Carolina’s Ninth Congressional District, which is — 10 months after Election Day 2018 — the last vote of the midterm elections. Experts see the race between State Senator Dan Bishop, a Republican, and the entrepreneur Dan McCready, a Democrat, as a test of President Trump’s clout in suburban areas.

Republican North Carolina state Sen. Dan Bishop held a narrow lead in a pivotal special U.S. House election that will not only decide the winner of a long-vacant House seat but could signal how President Trump will perform in the 2020 presidential election. With 79 percent of precincts reporting late Tuesday, Bishop led Democrat Dan McCready by just under 2,500 votes in the race to represent the GOP-leaning 9th Congressional District. Bishop was hoping a pair of visits to the district Monday by both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence would boost him to victory. Should Bishop defeat McCready, it...
