But there is one key trend that stands to push gold up beyond $1,700--regardless of the day’s news. Of course, it’s difficult for the bears to ignore a nearly $50/ounce gain for gold, which is now trading well above its 5-year high.

Marty Sampson, the worship music writer who recently revealed he is “genuinely losing” his faith, clarified that while he hasn’t “renounced” his Christianity, it’s nevertheless on “incredibly shaky ground.” Sampson, known for penning lyrics for Hillsong Worship, Hillsong United, Delirious and Young & Free, responded to a Christian Post op-ed titled “Reaching out to a Hillsong leader who is renouncing his faith." In it, columnist Michael Brown said he prays Sampson “would have the integrity of heart to seek the truth earnestly, with humility and passion, and that all others with questions will put those questions on the table.” After...

2020 Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden has done little to shake doubts about his sharpness and age in the race following the first round of Democratic debates in June in which the former vice president appeared forgetful and frail on stage.Over the weekend, Biden, 76, made several slip-ups in Iowa, likely adding fuel to voter concerns about his age and ability to take on President Donald Trump next fall.HereÂ’s a running list of BidenÂ’s slip-ups that The Federalist will be updating throughout the campaign:Updated Aug. 12, 2019Biden Says He Was Vice President During Parkland Massacre On Aug. 10, Biden...

A cherished myth of abortion-rights supporters is making the rounds again, this time peddled by someone who should know better: Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe. Despite having argued dozens of cases before the United States Supreme Court, Tribe evidently has difficulty uncovering basic facts. Or perhaps, like most blind defenders of the right to kill unborn human beings, he simply disregards them as needed to suit his agenda. On Sunday, the esteemed professor asserted that white supremacists oppose abortion. He then used this false claim to insinuate a sinister connection between racist and pro-life views: White Supremacists oppose abortion because they...

Newly obtained documents confirm that James Comey’s FBI was running a secret and corrupt counterintelligence operation against the Trump campaign in the summer of 2016 and repeatedly deceiving the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) thereafter in order to wiretap a Trump campaign associate. The disclosure was the result of a federal lawsuit and a year of litigation. Despite efforts by FBI Director Christopher Wray to obstruct, a federal court issued an order that forced the FBI and Department of Justice to produce the records known as “302 reports.” They are a summary of interviews FBI agents conducted with Bruce Ohr,...

As someone who has heard his last name used in Joe Biden’s favorite debate quip since 2012, it’s finally time to flip the script on the Democratic frontrunner. The former VP’s last few weeks have been filled with gaffes and at times downright incoherent rambling (“Joe-3-0...3-3-0â€).  His doddering behavior has included such statements as “We choose truth over facts†and “Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.†As President Donald J. Trump noted last week, “Joe Biden has lost his fastball.†Indeed, the “scrappy kid from Scranton†speaks in bunches of malarkey, time...

A new Pew Research Center poll finds that 60% say they have an unfavorable view of China — up from 47% last year to the highest proportion since Pew started asking the question 14 years ago. The survey results being released Tuesday found that 24% of Americans regard China as America’s top threat for the future, the same percentage that said so of Russia. North Korea (12 was the only other country to draw double-digit concern. […] Still, the poll finds that only 41% of Americans believe that China’s growing economy is a bad thing for the United States, compared...

Waterloo Of Boomer Catholics This is pretty amazing. A couple of Portland readers have sent me this story about what happened when the Catholic archbishop of Portland sent a priest in to reform a wackadoodle progressive parish that had gone native. The Oregonian’s report on it is hysterically biased, making the priest look like a monster; the reporter never once appears to have considered that Catholicism is a religion that has clear norms, and this parish’s previous leadership had seriously violated them, for a long time. Anyway, from the story about St. Francis parish, identified by the newspaper as having...

Republican Rep. Paul Gosar is a conspiracy theorist who pals around with bigots and hate groups. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) promoted a nonsensical conspiracy theory Monday, in which he accused the FBI of being part of an elaborate plot as part of an attack against America. "I have a tip," he wrote on Twitter. "I think high level FBI agents may have colluded with British agents and Democrat operatives to initiate an illegal coup against @realDonaldTrump and @POTUS. I mean at least this bears a cursory review." The conspiracy theorizing echoes months of Fox News and Trump defenders in Congress...

The gruesome display of 19 bodies scattered in Mexico may be linked to a vicious war, not over drugs but avocados, according to a report. Mexican police on Thursday discovered nine bodies hanging from a bridge, seven more slaughtered and another three dumped in what authorities say was a gang-turf massacre in the western state of Michoacán. Falko Ernst, an International Crisis Group researcher who studies cartels, said the fight over the region’s billion-dollar avocado industry was likely the largest factor in the bloodbath. Around 80 percent of the avocados imported into the US come from Michoacán, according to the...
