It’s summer, and for hundreds of thousands of Americans, that means at least one burger-and-bathroom break in Breezewood, Pennsylvania. This half-mile gauntlet of gas stations, fast-food outlets, and motels, its oversized signs towering above the surrounding countryside, is familiar to anyone who has to drive regularly from the East Coast to the Midwest or vice versa.[snip]Far from being “Every Town, U.S.A.,” Breezewood is a weird, improbable blip of a place. It’s what an architect might call a unique urban condition—a churning mini-city where the population nearly turns over every hour.

Former FBI Director James Comey may have escaped charges for leaking classified information to the public, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be torched by the pending inspector general report from the Department of Justice. It once again shoots a hole right through the Democrats’ ongoing Trump impeachment narrative that is rapidly falling apart. Russian collusion was outright killed by the report filed by ex-Special Counsel Robert Mueller, as it debunked the already unverified Trump dossier compiled by ex-MI6 spy Christopher Steele. Fusion GPS hired him. And they were contracted by the Hillary Clinton campaign to get dirt of Trump....

[Catholic Caucus] The Bane of Liberal Catholicism Exhibit A: Death Penalty, Abortion and Holy Communion In an article published at uscatholic.org by Stephen Schneck, one finds a prime example of how what is now portrayed as “mainstream” Catholicism in America no longer bears any resemblance to the Faith of our fathers.Schneck, a retired academic whose work at Catholic University involved the promotion of American-style political liberalism, recounts how none other than the disgraced Cardinal Wuerl looked at him “pointedly” when administering Holy Communion to him at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Schneck imagines the pointed glance...

18:31 30.07.2019 The number of violent incidents involving Islamist militants has reportedly jumped ten-fold between 2009 and 2018, and Somali jihadists from al-Shabaab appear to be the most active group. Terror-related violence in Africa has spiked massively over the past decade, despite increasing US military presence on the continent, a recent Pentagon analysis has shown. According to the Africa Centre for Strategic Studies, an affiliate of the US Department of Defence, there were over 3000 violent incidents reported in Africa last year, as against roughly 1,400 in 2012. This represents a 4.2 percent spike in violence since 2017 and a...

12:30 01.08.2019(updated 13:04 01.08.2019) Saudi authorities have still not commented on reports of the missile attack. Houthi militants have launched a long-range missile against the Saudi city of Dammam, Reuters reported on Thursday. There is currently no information about casualties or damages inflicted by the attack. Dammam became another target of the Houthi fighters near the Yemeni border. Last weekend, coalition forces intercepted a Houthi unmanned aircraft sent to attack Najran city. Yemen is embroiled in a civil war between the government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, based in Aden, and Houthi rebels. A Saudi-led coalition has been targeting...

RUSH: Climate change was a big, big deal last night. I want to go back to January 7, 1992. This is in the days before Fox News, before cable news became something other than CNN. It’s really before massive amounts of conservative talk radio existed. So this is back in the days where I used to be invited on shows like PBS Charlie Rose and so forth, ’cause I was the only national conservative voice they could bring on to try to expose as a kook or humiliate or what have you. Those days are over now. But the reason...

On Saturday, Democrat Julian Castro held an event in his hometown — San Antonio, Texas, where he served as mayor for five years — to announce he is running for president. But Castro’s campaign might be a bit a of a long shot considering he’s polling between 0 and 2 percent in state and national polls. That said, he has all the makings of an inspirational candidate — he’s young and ambitious, he overcame a childhood of poverty to attend Stanford and Harvard Law, and if he wins the nomination, would be the first Latino presidential nominee on a major-party...

My husband got to reminiscing recently about a cake his mother used to make – a molasses flavored confection called ‘Shoo Fly Cake’, apparently a classic Pennsylvania recipe. (He remembers catching his grandmother sneaking into the kitchen and dragging a finger through the rich, gooey remains on the bottom of the pan after everyone had been served. And he insists that this MUST be made in a metal pan, never glass, so that those 'goodies' at the bottom are done to perfection ;-) I had heard of Shoo Fly Pie, but not cake; so I went looking. Here, from the...

DETROIT — Andrew Yang says it’s already too late to stop climate change, and that it’s time for Americans to head for the hills. Yang, debating his fellow Democrats on Wednesday night in Detroit, had this to say when the subject of climate change was in full swing. Yang — a long-shot candidate — is best known for his universal basic income proposal: he has put a $1,000-a-month payout at the forefront of his platform. **SNIP** Yang said the U.S. acts like it controls 100% of global emissions itself, and that, “the truth is even if we were to curb...

Five Pennsylvania parolees have been charged in six homicides over the past two months, spurring the Department of Corrections to investigate whether anything should have been done differently. The accused killers’ supervision levels ranged from minimum to maximum, and they had been out from between three months and two years. Some had already violated the terms of their parole by the time they were arrested, and some had a history of violence.

Daines and Feinstein have been working on forest management reform proposals for several years, and the Paradise tragedy may be what pushes the legislation through a divided Congress, Daines said. He called the bipartisan effort a breakthrough. “We have a strong friendship and we’ve worked together on other issues,” Daines said of his relationship with Feinstein. “Both of our states are dealing with serious wildfire issues, and particularly public safety issues.” The fire in Paradise, the nation’s deadliest in nearly a century, and 18 more in California in 2017 were caused by Pacific Gas & Electric Corp. power lines, investigators...

ecent intelligence indicates that al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has a "heart complaint," according to a senior official involved in international counterterrorism efforts. The official said the information suggests Zawahiri had a potentially serious condition but cautioned it was difficult to ascertain the severity of his health problems and what effect they might have on his longevity. The possibility that Zawahiri, who just turned 68, is seriously ill increases uncertainty over al Qaeda's long-term leadership succession plans. Osama bin Laden's son Hamza bin Laden had been widely tipped to one day take over command of al Qaeda but a US...
