California’s Education Department has issued an “Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum” and is soliciting public comments on it until Aug. 15. The legislatively mandated guide is a resource for teachers who want to instruct their students in the field of “ethnic studies,” and was written by an advisory board of teachers, academics and bureaucrats. It’s as bad as you imagine. Ethnic studies is described in the document as “the interdisciplinary study of race, ethnicity, and indigeneity with an emphasis on experiences of people of color in the United States.” But that’s not all it is. “It is the study of intersectional...

Panel: U.S., China South China Sea Tensions Show No Signs of Easing By: John Grady July 29, 2019 6:30 PM While Washington defends its Navy’s transits through disputed waters in the South China Sea as upholding international freedom of navigation, Beijing blasts these operations as provocative and clear violations of its domestic law, a leading Chinese naval expert said last week; and both positions could harden. The U.S. needs to consistently transit through contested waters around the globe, not one-offs solely in the South China Sea, said Adm. Scott Swift, a former Pacific Fleet commander during an event at the...

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., is getting impatient with the FBI in his effort to root out misconduct in the early stages of the Trump-Russia investigation and went over Director Christopher Wray's head to try and move things along. In the balance, the GOP investigator said in a letter to top Justice Department officials last week, is the American public's ability to fully understand DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz's upcoming report on alleged surveillance abuses. In the letter addressed to Attorney General William Barr and Horowitz, Meadows pushed for the unredacted release of five pages related to British ex-spy Christopher Steele,...

A new law in California will require candidates for president to release their tax returns in order to appear on the primary ballot in March, 2020. "States have a legal and moral duty to do everything in their power to ensure leaders seeking the highest offices meet minimal standards, and to restore public confidence," said California Gov. Gavin Newsom in his signing statement Tuesday. "The disclosure required by this bill will shed light on conflicts of interest, self-dealing, or influence from domestic and foreign business interest." Candidates will have to submit five years of tax returns by November to be...

DETROIT, Michigan — Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) refused to answer questions about conditions in Baltimore, despite the fact that Democrats have rallied around the city to oppose President Donald Trump’s criticisms. Tlaib was addressing reporters at a protest near the venue for the second Democratic debate, which is being hosted by CNN at the Fox Theatre in downtown Detroit on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. The theatre is within the boundaries of Rep. Tlaib’s 13th congressional district. Tlaib was participating in a “tax the rich” protest, complete with an inflatable chicken with a Trump hairstyle. Tlaib has been vocal in her...

Wow, watching the Democrats “debate” is an exercise in crazy. Amazing to watch the hatred and the pandering. I can’t imagine the insult it must be to blacks in the USA.

Senator Kamala Harris released her plan for a student loan debt forgiveness program for Pell grant recipients. She posted a tweet announcing her oddly specific plan and its requirements. The reaction to her plan didn’t go well. The responses came fast and furious. Yesterday I announced that, as president, I’ll establish a student loan debt forgiveness program for Pell Grant recipients who start a business that operates for three years in disadvantaged communities. https://t.co/ldwuC9RiIE— Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) July 28, 2019 While potential voters are hungry for specifics from candidates in their plans, as a general rule, Kamala’s specifications for...

Why are the candidates on the first night of the second round of debates spending so much time on health care and health insurance; we were assured by the previous administration that the Affordable Care Act fixed everything … right?

(Video at source)A group of international researchers say they have uncovered possible evidence of a warmer climate in Alaska — dating back to when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Dr. Tony Fiorillo of the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Texas, and his team are fresh back from a three-week, remote expedition to Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve. During that time, Fiorillo says the researchers discovered what appeared to be a crayfish burrow. How do crayfish fit in with dinosaurs? We wondered that too. "They lived with the dinosaurs," Fiorillo explained. "As you can imagine, in Anchorage, there aren't...

A former aide to Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) pleaded guilty to helping a former staffer enter a Senate office after hours while the staffer erased evidence indicating the staffer's involvement in the doxxing of GOP senators supporting the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh. Samantha Davis pleaded guilty Tuesday to aiding computer fraud and evidence tampering, Politico reported, and could face up to 18 months in prison under the law. Prosecutors indicated in court documents that they will likely not seek prison time, according to Politico, but she could face time at a halfway house or home confinement at an...

The state of Alabama is suing the federal government over how it counts people in the census, claiming it will lose a seat in Congress because it has a low illegal-alien population. The lawsuit, filed May 21, 2018, in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, is garnering attention now after two federal judges permanently enjoined the Trump administration from adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census earlier this month. The dual rulings came after the Supreme Court ruled June 27 in Department of Commerce v. New York that the citizenship question couldn’t be included in the...

FBI agents discovered “suspicious items” Friday afternoon at the Robinson home of a man shot and killed by law enforcement officials at the home the morning before. Waco Fire Department hazmat crews and the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office bomb unit were called back to the home Friday, but no other information was given about the nature of the items. FBI Special Agent Michelle Lee said the “suspicious items” were found while FBI agents processed the scene at the property. “These teams will remain on scene for the duration of our operations to secure any additional items which may be found....

A federal judge in frank terms Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) against key members of the Trump campaign and WikiLeaks over hacked DNC documents, saying they "did not participate in any wrongdoing in obtaining the materials in the first place" and therefore bore no legal liability for disseminating the information. The ruling came as Democrats increasingly have sought to tie the Trump team to illegal activity in Russia, in spite of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller's findings that the campaign in fact refused multiple offers by Russians to involve them in hacking and disinformation efforts....

"Our view was always, 'Let's just run a business.'" Today, former Walmart CEO Bill Simon would be in the minority. As more companies pick sides in the cultural debate, he -- like a lot of executives -- is having a hard time understanding which business these CEOs are in: advancing left-wing advocacy or their company's brand? Things have changed a lot over Bill Simon's career. In the retail business, he remembers, it used to be simple. "We'll sell to anybody. We'll try to stay out of the public eye on issues that can be confrontational." Fast-forward to today, when everything...
