President Trump has long defined his immigration policies as simply a matter of toughness. Indeed, making the border crossing tougher has been the overriding thrust of his deterrence effort. He has complained to border agents that he would love to see them get “a little rough” but that “when you do all of these things that we have to do, they end up arresting Border Patrol people.” He even threatened a 25 percent tariff on Mexico for failing to prevent people from crossing the border. Yet, no hardship has deterred millions on this dangerous journey because of what waits on...

YouGov asked citizens from four countries deeply involved in the European theater of WWII (the UK, France, Germany, and the US) who they thought was most responsible for defeating the Nazis – the Americans, the British, or the Russians. Those in the UK were the only country who choose the British; the other three were most likely to choose the Americans. Intriguingly, historical data shows that at the close of the Second World War the French public believed that it was the Russians, not the Americans, who had done the most to defeat the Nazis. A survey conducted by IFOP...

Fawaz Turki in the Gulf News on Arabs and non-Arabs in Islam (Part 1) JUN 8, 2019 10:00 AM BY HUGH FITZGERALD One of the favorite themes of apologists for Islam is that the faith is open to people of all races and ethnicities, and that they are, within the umma, treated equally. The figure of Bilal, an Ethiopian born in 580 A.D., who became a slave in Mecca and then, after his conversion to Islam, was set free, is central to this narrative. For Bilal was not only one of the Companions of the Prophet, but was the very...

Colorado climber stepped over newly dead bodies to summit Everest. He’s still wrestling with what it all means. Dr. Peter Lowry, a 38-year-old radiologist from Golden, passed two bodies on May 23, casting a shadow on his life-long dream mere steps from the summit of Mount Everest. “I thought I would see bodies from five, 10, 20 years ago. Not from this season. I did not mentally prepare to see people who had died less than 24 hours ago,” said the mountaineer who reached the top of the world’s highest peak on May 23, a day after four climbers died...

The Federation Council speaker vowed that the parliament will to do everything to make sure “that no dirty hand will...

Today’s Campaign Update, Part II (Because The Campaign Never Ends) Hey, remember when Joe Biden’s rationale for running was that he would be the moderate who would appeal to independent voters? – Yeah, that’s all gone now. I’ve told you all along that Joe Biden will not – cannot – be the 2020 nominee for the Democrat Party, and this was the week in which he sealed his own fate. Honestly, it was inevitable. This man is a dinosaur trying to compete in a modern age with which he is totally unfamiliar. He’s like Phil Hartman’s genius “Un-Frozen Caveman Lawyer”...

Employer branding specialist Universum has released its 2019 rankings for the most attractive employers in the United States. Based on the firm’s findings, which were tabulated from a survey of tens of thousands of students from hundreds of universities, it appears that two of Elon Musk’s companies, SpaceX and Tesla, are perceived by engineering students as the best employers in the country. SpaceX, Elon Musk’s private space company, was dubbed by engineering students as the No. 1 employer they wish to work for, dethroning NASA, which topped last year’s rankings. Among the respondents of Universum’s survey, 20.7% of engineering students...

The Democratic presidential contenders are ready to break the bank with expensive policy proposals that would add trillions of dollars to the deficit if enacted. The 2020 hopefuls are angling to one-up each other with big policy ideas that would overhaul the U.S. health care system, address climate change and provide free college tuition or erase student debt. Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s “Global Climate Mobilization” plan, hailed by environmental activists as the gold standard, would cost the U.S. government $3 trillion over the next decade. Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (Mass.) proposal to eliminate tuition at public colleges and erase existing student...

The financial world is watching for further contentiousness between United States and Chinese negotiators, as oil traders fear a potential global economic slowdown. Meanwhile, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is trying to push oil prices higher. There was a time when OPEC would have been able to do that. However, the oil markets are facing several supply disruptions and yet the price is dropping. As OPEC prepares to meet at the end of this month and hopes to prop up the price of oil, we can thank U.S. oil production for the lower prices. Because of the 12.4...

A military judge on Friday refused to dismiss the murder case of a decorated Navy SEAL, but found the prosecution’s meddling in defense lawyer emails troubling enough to reduce the maximum penalty he faces. Capt. Aaron Rugh said an effort to track emails sent to lawyers for Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher violated constitutional rights against illegal searches and the right to counsel by interfering with attorney-client privilege. “It hampered the defense’s opportunity to prepare for trial as they became necessarily enmeshed in discovery and litigation related to the operation, thereby harming the accused’s right to competent counsel,” Rugh said....

Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that any plan to sufficiently address the climate crisis will need to cost at least $10 trillion. “I think we really need to get to $10 trillion to have a shot,” the progressive firebrand said in response to a question from The Hill in the Capitol. “I know it’s a ton," she added. "I don’t think anyone wants to spend that amount of money, it’s not a fun number to say, I’m not excited to say we need to spend $10 trillion on climate, but ... it’s just the fact of the scenario.”...

[Catholic Caucus] The Political Leader of the Worldwide Left It does not seem possible, or even responsible, to divert one’s attention from the constant mischief of a pontificate exercised by one who, to quote Antonio Socci’s most recent column, being “oblivious to the umpteenth scorching electoral defeat (or perhaps because of it)… with angry obstinacy continues his electoral campaign as the political leader of the worldwide Left.” Socci is referring to the massive victories for the nationalist parties of Italy, U.K., France, Hungary and Brazil, whose electorates have rejected Francis’ open borders, quasi-socialist rhetoric.“In fact,” Socci writes, Pope Francis “continues...

A week simply can’t pass without TESLA NEWS, and this week’s TESLA NEWS is that the Model 3 is officially the fastest charging electric car in the world. With conditions, of course. A firmware update – rolling out this weekend – for European Model 3s with the Long Range battery option will allow them to charge at 200kW when hooked up to specific ‘ultrafast’ chargers. In balder terms, 200kW equates to 850 miles for each hour of charging. Given the Long Range version quotes at 329 miles on a full battery, that means a complete charge in just over 20...
