North Korean diplomats on Thursday stormed out of a UN conference on human rights after lashing out at the United States for inviting three defectors to speak at the event. Pyongyang envoy Ri Song Chol interrupted the conference when he tried to deliver a statement following the poignant testimony of Joseph Kim who fled North Korea as an orphaned, homeless and hungry teenager. US Ambassador Samantha Power ordered UN staff to turn off the North Korean diplomat’s microphone and security guards were dispatched to the conference room at UN headquarters. The three diplomats then stood up and left the room...

Some of the nearly 300 girls and women freed by Nigeria’s military from the forest stronghold of Boko Haram were so transformed by their captivity that they opened fire on their rescuers, and experts said Wednesday they would need intensive psychological treatment. The military was flying in medical and intelligence teams to evaluate the former captives, many of whom were severely traumatized, said army spokesman Col. Sani Usman. He said earlier that none of the schoolgirls kidnapped from the northeastern town of Chibok a year ago appeared to be among the 200 girls and 93 women rescued Tuesday. But on...

Its hard to tell if we are witnessing mass climate hysteria, or just loathsome fear mongering to promote a political agenda, but it is oh so predictable, and oh so sickening. Every weather event and every tragedy is now due rising CO2. To paraphrase Dr. Viner, “natural storms and earthquakes are now just a thing of the past”. With the help of a few alarmist scientists, the media bombards us with the meme that “Everything is caused by rising CO2.” Today the Seth Bornstein prize for yellow climate journalism goes to Newsweek. Last August they tried to infect our psyche’s...

The HoloLens will display 3D images in front of a user's eyes. The 3D images will intermingle with a user's real-world environment to create a unique experience. Microsoft's upcoming headset is not trying to be a virtual reality device. Instead, it is an "augmented reality." Someone wearing the device could see some objects on a table that are not really there, and they will be able to interact with them as if they were real and actually in front of them. When someone who is not wearing a HoloLens sees someone who is wearing one, they will think some of...

The graffiti on a building in Belgium says it all: "Welcome to 'Belgistan." In fact, some are now calling it the Muslim capital of Europe.

If all it took to get my vote was being a 73-year-old dude who’s grooving out to the folk songs he used to shout-sing in a Vermont jam band, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) would have my vote. If you click on the audio button on the lower right (see video on this page), you can hear him shush the reporter who is playing his old music and say “Shhh. I’m getting in the groove here!” What’s not to love, really? If you didn’t know he was a sitting U.S. Senator, there is no way you’d put that on a list...

Near the end of 2007, Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett met with Al Sharpton in New York City and began to cement a relationship that would eventually make the inflammatory activist the president’s “go-to man” on race, according to multiple sources. The backdrop to the incipient Obama-Sharpton alliance was the then-senator’s 2008 presidential campaign, which still hadn’t locked away the black vote, and the political cross-currents created by two other controversial reverends, Jesse Jackson and Jeremiah Wright. That tentative relationship has now grown into a full-blown partnership that has vastly increased the once-shunned Sharpton’s influence and prestige and elevated him into...

May 1 marks what is known as May Day, a celebration of international workers chosen by the socialists and Communists of the Second International to recognize the Haymarket affair in Chicago’s Haymarket Square of May 1886. In order to ring in the holiday, we thought it apt to share 10 books on socialism and Communism and their impact on mankind. 1) The Marx-Engels Reader by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels This book contains the core works of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, which provide the intellectual basis for socialism and Communism. 2) The Road to Serfdom by F.A. Hayek One...

The word “president†isn’t uttered here but the subject line of the e-mail from his website containing the link to this clip was “Announcement video†and there’s a countdown clock on the homepage marking the hours until Tuesday’s “event†in Arkansas. He’s in. And as announcement videos go, this one’s interesting — as much for what it doesn’t contain as what it does. It starts by playing up Huckabee’s record in remaking “Bill Clinton’s Arkansas,†signaling that he’s going to run in the primaries not only as a man who can beat the Clintons in the general but a...

Nonpartisan legislative analysts and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s budget office agreed Thursday that revenue dropped $67 million below expectations between January and April, adding to this year’s budget deficit. The increase in tax revenue anticipated following the April 15 deadline wasn’t realized, according to budget analysts. In fact, personal income tax collections fell $65.5 million short of projections. Office of Policy and Management Secretary Ben Barnes had forecasted 25 percent growth in personal income tax receipts.

The commander of Iran’s ground forces said that American officials planned and executed the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, to justify military intervention in the region. “These wars and these threats stem from a comprehensive American strategy. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the Americans felt that a new force was beginning to materialize, namely the union between Sunnis and Shiites,” said Ahmad Reza Pourdastan in an interview with Iran’s Arabic-language Al-Alam state news network. “The basis of this force was the blessed Islamic Revolution in Iran. This force is Islam, or the Islamic world. In order to...

One of the schools she heard back from, and the school that I felt she was most interested in all along, was Boston College. What she learned during her communication with the coach was shocking to her. Boston College does not offer any athletic scholarships to its swimmers. None. Zero. Is it any wonder that BC really can't compete against other top schools in the ACC in swimming?

Now, more than ever, racial tensions are off the charts. While it’s true that the majority of cases hitting the news are concerning the police and minorities – primarily African-Americans – this case has nothing to do with law enforcement of any kind; just rules of grammar, punctuation and capitalization enforcement. UCLA houses a group called Call 2 Action: Graduate Students of Color, and they’re upset. They allege ‘several incidents,’ but the most notable is a tendency (in their eyes) of professor of education and information, Val Rust, to correct the grammar, punctuation and capitalization of the assignments handed in...

Late Thursday, the glitzy electric car company Tesla Motors, run by billionaire Elon Musk, ceased to be just a car company. As was widely expected, Tesla announced that it is offering a home battery product, which people can use to store energy from their solar panels or to backstop their homes against blackouts, and also larger scale versions that could perform similar roles for companies or even parts of the grid. For homeowners, the Tesla Powerwall will have a power capacity of either 10 kilowatt hours or 7 kilowatt hours, at a cost of either $ 3,500 or $ 3,000....

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, made a last-ditch push for the Senate to block a District of Columbia law Friday, but his statement was almost certainly made in vain.Following the House vote to block D.C.’s Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Amendment Act late Thursday night, the presidential candidate is urging the Senate to do the same, though senators have already left town. RHNDA is a D.C. Council measure that seeks to combat workplace discrimination based on reproductive health decisions, but conservatives say it could force employers to violate religious freedom.“The D.C. Home Rule Act only gives Congress a limited time to act, and...

Have you ever accidentally downloaded malware? Under proposed amendments to the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, the malware on your computer may provide the Federal Bureau of Investigation the justification it needs to load its own surveillance software onto your computer, without notifying you. The FBI may be able to obtain warrants from any federal district court to search any computer in the United States. Once a warrant is issued, it can load its own software onto a target computer, copy files found on the computer, and wait to notify the target until after the search is complete. The government...

The six Baltimore police officers involved in the arrest of Freddie Gray – who died last month after being injured in police custody – have been charged criminally, State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced Friday. Mosby's announcement on the steps of the War Memorial Building was greeted with cheers and applause. Mosby said she told Gray's family that "no one is above the law and I would pursue justice upon their behalf." Desmond Taylor, 29, shouted in jubilee in front of the War Memorial Building. Mosby: Freddie Gray's death a homicide, officers charged Investigation and medical examiner reports say Freddie Gray's...

Was The Papacy Established By Christ? (Part 1) For those who don't have much familiarity with the dispute between Protestants and Catholics over the doctrine of the papacy, I want to post two introductory articles on the subject today and tomorrow. The first article, this one, will be about the Biblical evidence, and tomorrow's article will be about the early post-Biblical evidence. Roman Catholicism claims the papacy as its foundation. According to the Catholic Church, the doctrine of the papacy was understood and universally accepted as early as the time of Peter: "At open variance with this clear doctrine of...
