A Virginia police officer detained a television news videographer Tuesday because his camera vest could have been tactical gear. The cop was from the Arlington County Police Department, part of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

For several years, the Afghan air force has flown Russian Mi-35 Hind gunships. The iconic, armored helicopters are better known as “flying tanks” for their ability to spew bullets and rockets — while absorbing gunfire. But the Afghans probably won’t fly their Hinds a year from now. The helicopters are getting old and falling apart — and with Washington’s relationship with Moscow at its lowest point in decades, the Pentagon is buying tiny American choppers to replace them. On April 9, the Afghan air force received six American-made MD-530F gunships. In 2013, In 2014, the Pentagon decided to send a total of 12 armed...

The United States says Russia has deployed more air defense systems into eastern Ukraine and is involved in training exercises of separatist forces in the area in breach of a cease-fire agreement. U.S. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf made the accusations on April 22, after Russia’s foreign minister criticized the United States for exploiting the Ukrainian crisis. “The Russian military has deployed additional air defense systems into eastern Ukraine and moved several of these nearer the front lines,” Harf said in a statement. This is the highest amount of Russian air defense equipment in eastern Ukraine since August [2014]." Harf...

Bill Clinton has given many speeches since he left office in 2001, earning millions of dollars. (Photo: Jacquelyn Martin/AP) With an exasperated swipe at “absurd right-wing conspiracy theories,” Hillary Clinton’s campaign on Wednesday rejected the allegation in a new book that she watered down Iran sanctions to please a corporation that paid Bill Clinton a fortune in speaking fees. The accusation appears in “Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich,” which is due out May 5. Republicans hope the book will cripple her presidential bid. Democrats have underlined...

The “vast right-wing conspiracy” is back. That was the phrase Hillary Clinton herself used to describe the villainous puppet masters behind the Monica Lewinsky scandal back in 1998. And now, her camp has decided to reanimate this ludicrous bogeyman from the days when pets.com was the talk of Wall Street to combat new allegations of Clintonian malfeasance — allegations the substance of which she and we don’t even yet know. ~snip~ We’ll see if Peter Schweizer has anything new. We’ve already seen we won’t see anything new from the Clintons. For them, sliming an enemy and denying everything have worked...

"...Scott Walker...delivered some definitely not-Koch-approved remarks on immigration. Given the reaction, they’re worth quoting in full:“In terms of legal immigration, how we need to approach that going forward is saying,we will make adjustments,”Walker said. “The next president and the next Congress need to make decisions about a legal immigration system that’s based on, first and foremost,on protecting American workers and American wages.“Because the more I’ve talked to folks—I’ve talked to Senator Sessions and others out there, but it is a fundamentally lost issue by many in elected positions today—is what is this doing for American workers looking for jobs, what is this doing to...

Explanation: Earth's April showers include the Lyrid Meteor Shower, observed for more than 2,000 years when the planet makes its annual passage through the dust stream of long-period Comet Thatcher. A grain of that comet's dust, moving 48 kilometers per second at an altitude of 100 kilometers or so, is swept up in this night sky view from the early hours of April 21. Flashing toward the southeastern horizon, the meteor's brilliant streak crosses the central region of the rising Milky Way. Its trail points back toward the shower's radiant in the constellation Lyra, high in the northern springtime sky...

If what follows sounds like a scene from the sci-fi disaster flick Independence Day, imagine what President George W. Bush must have thought on the night of January 8, 2008 as he contemplated his ranch home in Crawford, Texas. At around 8:00 pm, an enormous, hovering craft with ridiculously bright lights, at least 1,000 feet long (though some witnesses said a mile long), was tracked on multiple radars heading straight for the president's ranch at low speed. The craft lacked a required transponder, was totally unidentified, did not respond to any attempts at communication, and was flying through restricted airspace....

No one in Russian-speaking Kharkiv wants to follow rebels into open revolt. But locals say Kiev has no idea how badly it's aggravating the region with its initiatives, including the 'Great Wall of Ukraine.' It's been nicknamed the "Great Wall of Ukraine." Its planned combination of barbed-wire fences, watchtowers, berms, and tank traps along Ukraine's 1,300-mile border with Russia look like something you'd find on one of Israel's borders with its hostile neighbors. If it's ever completed, the wall will seal a frontier that, until last year, had always been wide open. Inaugurating construction here last fall, Prime Minister Arseniy...
  • PolitiFact Gives Reince Priebus A Pass

Last week, GOP chief weasel, Reince Priebus, was squawking about Hillary Clinton and how she allegedly gotten all this money from the kings of other countries, which would, of course, be illegal. The supposedly unbiased PolitiFact decided to look at his claims. Their findings: "Priebus said Clinton took "money from kings of Saudi Arabia and Morocco and Oman and Yemen." The monarchies of Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Oman have contributed to the Clinton Foundation, but Yemen, which does not have a king, has not.

As prosecutors argued Wednesday that Boston Marathon jihad mass murderer Dzhokhar Tsarnaev should get the death penalty, they released a video of the young jihadi three months after his attack, looking into the security camera in his cell, primping his hair in the reflection, and then flashing the V sign and then giving his middle finger to his jailers.

The Pentagon has admitted for the first time it plans to use cyberwarfare in its battle to keep up with its enemies. In a 33-page 'cybersecurity strategy' the US Department of Defense has publicly laid out the approach plans to take. The document says the DoD "should be able to use cyber operations to disrupt an adversary's command and control networks, military-related critical infrastructure and weapons capabilities". The previous strategy, published in 2011, made little reference to clandestine warfare using computer networks, although US officials are known to have spoken privately about the issue. The television reports said officials had...

Retired neurosurgeon and likely presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson this weekend endorsed Ohio Sen. Rob Portman's re-election campaign against likely Democratic challenger Ted Strickland. "I want to see Rob Portman re-elected to the U.S. Senate and encourage Ohio voters to join his campaign and keep the Senate in Republican control," said Carson, a spokesman at the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County's annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Saturday night in Cleveland, according to a party press release.

Immigration has an important place in American life, but it can never become more important than American life. It is not an unlimited good and its implementation must flow from what is best for Americans, not from warping the freedoms that we believe in until they become an abstract ideology that destroys the people who practice them.Scott Walker is not betraying free market principles when he contends that immigration should be based around the needs of Americans, he is practicing and protecting them. Immigration has become the third rail of American politics. At a time when the labor force participation...
