Dear Elected Represenatives : Just a couple of years ago, I wrote to all of my elected representatives about women in combat, and about the eventual possibility of women being required to register with the Selective Service Administration, as males are required to do. I received letters from Congress and the Department of Defense that carried this response, "Sir, don't be alarmed --- don't you know that it is against the law for women to serve in combat roles?" Well, is it against the law, or isn't it ? Defense Secretary Leon Panetta wants women in combat units ! Does...

Joe Scarborough has said that he doesn't know whether Morning Joe member Willie Geist is a Democrat or a Republican. I'd say Willie leans left on social issues but is not reflexively liberal on other matters. Today, with Scarborough absent from the Morning Joe set, Geist actually rode to the defense of Rand Paul. The Republican Senator from Kentucky has been taking heat from Dems over telling Hillary Clinton at yesterday's Benghazi hearings that had he been president, he would have fired her for her handling of the matter. Panelist Donny Deutsch made a predictable attack, calling Paul "pathetic, amateur...

At the risk of boring the few regular readers I have accumulated on Political Realities, let me touch once again on the 2nd Amendment and the all-out assault against it that is presently taking place. To be sure, it is a highly charged debate. Many liberals believe no one should have guns, while conservatives believe it is our God-given right to keep and bear arms. And that's not even considering the 2nd Amendment, put into place to protect those rights. Let's review what the 2nd Amendment says, shall we? A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a...

North Korea Vows Nuclear Test 'Aimed' at US by Steve Herman North Korea is amplifying its rhetoric about carrying out more rocket launches and a third nuclear test. North Korea's National Defense Commission says the reclusive state will conduct an “all-out confrontation battle” that will include further satellite and long-range launches, as well as what it calls a nuclear test of a “higher level.” It says these actions will be aimed at its sworn enemy, the United States.

Remember all those mainstream news reports before the election about how President Obama's expansive spending plans would require massive tax hikes on everyone, not just millionaires and billionaires? Neither do we. But somehow after the election, reporters are finally admitting that Obama's budget numbers simply don't add up and that new taxes on the middle class — including a European-style value added tax — are "inevitable."

Say “I Can” to the Mountain Today's Scripture “And Jesus answered them, Truly I say to you, if you have faith (a firm relying trust) and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and cast into the sea, it will be done.” (Matthew 21:21, AMP) Today's Word from Joel and Victoria We’ve all had seasons when the challenges of life feel overwhelming. During those times, it’s easy to be tempted to talk about how bad things are. Maybe you...

God’s Overpowering Purpose "I have appeared to you for this purpose . . ." —Acts 26:16 The vision Paul had on the road to Damascus was not a passing emotional experience, but a vision that had very clear and emphatic directions for him. And Paul stated, “I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision†(Acts 26:19). Our Lord said to Paul, in effect, “Your whole life is to be overpowered or subdued by Me; you are to have no end, no aim, and no purpose but Mine.†And the Lord also says to us, “You did not choose Me,...

I love the intro to these "news" reports - "after leading the agency’s efforts to clamp down on public corruption and financial fraud at the nation’s largest banks, according to several people familiar with the matter." Those big banks are just too big and too much for a dedicated public servant who is tough on crime. A couple of posts here last summer asked about executive privilege once the Obama administration asserted it in Fast & Furious. It seemed clear to me then that the administration strategy would be to use the litigation process to delay, so that Fast...

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day". traduce \truh – DOOS\ verb1. to expose to shame or blame by means of falsehood and misrepresentation2. violate, betray Example sentences: At the apex of the journalist's career, a jealous rival attempted to traduce her name with false allegations. "In his introductory remarks, Stuart Proffitt, publishing director of Penguin Press and chairman of the prize committee, praised the BBC as the greatest cultural institution in the history of the world.... Here, at last,...

My father always told me there are two types of people in this world; doers and watchers. Even the revolutionary war had its share of doers and watchers. The doers were the Patriots and Tories. These people encompassed colonists who kicked in by fighting either for independence or for the King. Some of the most brutal and bloodiest battles of the war were fought between Patriots and Tories. They made up roughly 2/3 of the colonial population. The final 1/3 was made up people who either didnÂ’t care which side won or who desired independence but really didnÂ’t want to...

Almost a decade ago, Europeans and many progressive Americans were lamenting how the United States was going to miss out on the 21st-century paradigm symbolized by the robust European Union. Neanderthal Americans were importing ever more oil while waging a costly "war on terror" and fighting two conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our budget deficit in 2003 hit $374 billion. The EU avoided foreign conflicts and embraced soft power. Its declining military budgets and centralized transnational government ensured that it could address global warming and fund ever-expanding entitlements. Even the poorer Mediterranean nations reached new heights of prosperity. The Greek...

Newsweek stopped its print edition at the end of 2012, but they still tried to scandalize the country by producing a fake cover honoring Obama's second inauguration as "The Second Coming." This absurd attempt at myth making is a natural progression. The "cover" story was written by Evan Thomas, who proclaimed on MSNBC a few years ago that Obama was "sort of like God" in being above the gritty political fray. It was just as absurd when Newsweek writer David Frum, the formerly conservative Bush speechwriter, tweeted this piece of media-elite nonsense: "First term Obama: punchee, 2nd term Obama,...

Explanation: Clouds on a summer night frame this sea and skyscape, recorded earlier this month near Buenos Aires, Argentina. But planet Earth's clouds are not the only clouds on the scene. Starry clouds and nebulae along the southern hemisphere's summer Milky Way arc above the horizon, including the dark Coal Sack near the Southern Cross and the tantalizing pinkish glow of the Carina Nebula. Both the Large (top center) and Small Magellanic Clouds are also in view, small galaxies in their own right and satellites of the Milky Way up to 200,000 light-years distant. Alpha star of the Carina constellation...

Rochester, N.Y. — Early Tuesday morning, Christopher Boise heard a noise coming from the basement. As he walked toward the source of that noise, the RIT student noticed two men standing in the downstairs portion of his apartment. "They were waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs," said Boise. One of them had a handgun trained on Boise. Within moments, Boise screamed. His cries were heard by his roommate, Raymond. "It wasn't like a, 'I stepped by stepped on a piece of glass' kind of scream," Raymond said. "So, I instinctively went to my gun bag." Raymond owns...
