Israel will be compelled to attack Iran's nuclear sites if Western powers cannot agree crippling sanctions against Tehran by the end of the year, a former Israeli deputy defence minister said on Wednesday. Ephraim Sneh, who holds no position in the current Israeli government and was speaking in his personal capacity, told Reuters it was not clear the United States and European Union had the decisiveness to take such steps, which should include tougher banking and oil curbs, by year's end.

LOS ANGELES – Lady Dai was a Chinese nobleman's wife in her mid-50s when she died of a heart attack. She was overweight, had diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, liver disease, gallstones and her arteries were almost totally clogged. She didn't live the healthiest life but she left behind one of the most perfectly preserved bodies in history. She was buried about 2,100 years ago. Her tomb was found in the early 1970s on Mawangdui, a hill in Changsha, near the capital of Hunan Province in China. More than 1,400 equally well-preserved artifacts found around her were designed to...

The Park City resort also won individual categories for grooming, mountain service, dining and lodging. More than 20,000 readers participated in the survey, the most comprehensive of its kind. Deer Valley's ratings has never dropped lower than third overall in the past nine years... A third consecutive top ranking wasn't expected given competition from other fancy ski resorts around the U.S. and Canada.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (R-Mont.) yesterday unveiled his new health care bill and has scheduled the markup to begin next week. He had no support from any other senator at the unveiling, standing alone while attempting to convince reporters that his bill will pass the Senate. The bill is estimated to cost a whopping $856 billion dollars. There are three major political strikes against this “chairman’s mark†coming out of the gate. Strike one: like its House counterpart, the bill cuts $500 billion out of the Medicare system that will result in stiff opposition from seniors -- a...

We don’t need laws or constitutional amendments to do this, just some disciplin and determination from the electorate. Seems like at every gathering of conservatives or self proclaimed constitutional patriots that I go to, a very popular theme is term limits. Everyone seems to agree that after spending a few years in Washington DC, even the best, most conservative, most constitutionally aware legislators go soft and are weakened by a combination of lobbyists and partisan politics. And everyone seems to have some proposed solution involving some legislation or possibly even a constitutional amendment. Well, here’s the reality. We the voters...

Suppose Bill Gates had an identical twin brother, Walter. And suppose that Bill and Walter had identical interests, shared identical experiences. Suppose they were even identically driven. Now suppose that one day many years ago, something split the brothers. Perhaps they were waiting together at a bus stop, and a nearly-full bus pulled up. Only one brother can get on the bus, and the other must wait for the next bus. And let's suppose that this moment of separation had occurred at a key point in time, and that as a result it was Walter, instead of Bill, who went...

"This is just the beginning," Yosi Sergant told participants in an Aug. 10 conference call that seems to have been organized by the National Endowment for the Arts and certainly was joined by a functionary from the White House Office of Public Engagement. The call was the beginning of the end of Sergant's short tenure as NEA flack -- he has been reassigned. The call also was the beginning of a small scandal that illuminates something gargantuan -- the Obama administration's incontinent lust to politicize everything... Did the White House initiate the call...Or, even worse, did the NEA, an independent...

In his address last week, President Obama said he had talked to some doctors and learned that medical procedures were being done that may not be necessary due to fear of medical malpractice lawsuits, and he entertained the idea of tort reform, saying we could try it in some states with pilot projects. But there's no need for a pilot project. Texas enacted malpractice reform years ago. The president would benefit from a phone call to Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R)....

The Veterans Day parade that will be held in Homestead later this year will be missing one controversial symbol: The Confederate battle flag. That's because organizers decided to ban the flag from the parade after much back-and-forth debate. For some, the flag is a symbol of Southern pride. But others say it's a symbol of the country's racist past. Initially, the organizers – the Homestead/ Florida City Chamber of Commerce's Military Affairs Committee – had agreed to allow the flag. But they reversed that decision on Wednesday after Jeffrey Wander, the committee chairman, said he sent out emails asking for...

I came by this quote today while reading some comments from a poster named Wallaby w hile reading the article at this link. This is in refrence to the ACORN sting that is going on "This is nothing but a racist witch hunt. All you conservative repuKKKes just can't stand the fact that a black man is now your boss!!"

Pelosi Congratulates the Administration on BMD Surrender McCormack is down on the Hill at her presser and sends in these quotes: "I think this is brilliant." On Tuesday, Senator Arlen Specter R D-Pa. raised expectations when he told the A.F.L.-C.I.O. convention in Pittsburgh that the Senate has “pounded out an Employees Choice bill which will meet labor’s objectives” and predicted it would pass this year. There was only one problem with his announcement, it was fantasy. The Senate presently has 99 members (because of the death of Ted Kennedy) Arlen Specter was the only one of the 99 that knew about the compromise. In other words it never happened. The Hill spoke to other Senators who tried to politely pull away from Specter's statement

It wasn't enough for former President Jimmy Carter to falsely accuse critics of Barack Obama of being racists; now he's added a blood libel. Carter reiterated his belief that all disagreements with Obama are "based on the fact that he is a black man" Tuesday. Last night MSNBC's Keith Olbermann thanked Carter for rendering this "service" during a forum in Atlanta, where Carter said: The outbursts that we see of this scatalogical language -- the sign that I saw on television last night "We should bury Obama with Kennedy," for instance (audible gasps in the audience)...Those kind of things are...

The state Assembly has passed a bill that would require Wisconsin children complete kindergarten before entering first grade. Bill sponsor Rep. Jeff Smith, an Eau Claire Democrat, says the requirement is designed to ensure kindergarten students attend class. Because kindergarten isn't mandatory now, he says students aren't bound by truancy rules. Not many children would be affected by the requirement. Each year, an average of just 117 first graders haven't been to kindergarten. That's about one-third of 1 percent of the total number of first graders as of last school year. The Assembly passed the measure 53-44. It goes next...

On WABC radio this morning, Mark Levin and Don Imus talked about White House efforts to distract, with race-baiting, the nation from talking about the real issues. When Imus brought up Glenn Beck, Mark reiterated his objections to people comparing Beck with Rush Limbaugh. (Maybe people ought to really listen to what Mark said about Beck before commenting.) It was a great talk-radio, informative and very funny. (Audio after the jump.)
