"Earlier this year, quite by happenstance, I read a book written by Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter James B. Stewart. "Heart of a Soldier" tells the story of two men who, well before it happened, foretold not only of the terrorist attack of 9/11 but also the 1993 bombing in the World Trade Center parking garage that preceded it. "One of the men, Rick Rescorla, was chief of security for Morgan Stanley with an office in the World Trade Center. He died on 9/11, but not before he shepherded all but six of Morgan Stanley's 2,700 employees to safety because of a...

A woman thought a store clerk ripped her off, so she punched him and attacked him with scissors. Only later did she discover that she'd been wrong. But when she returned to the store to apologize, police were waiting.

Apparently, it's not just me. For years, conservatives' claims of media bias have been dismissed as pure paranoia. I wonder if the fact that people on the left now feel the same way means I've been cured. Television and print news have become such hack-fests that one barely needs the research skills of a, well, modern journalist, to find evidence of bias. Let's just take a stroll through the past week. The MSM and its entertainment partners (Letterman, John Stewart and Co.) have been all over Joe Wilson for having a spontaneous (albeit rude) outburst of honesty last Wednesday. It's...

One of those hopefully seminal moments, when someone, somewhere decided to take a stand against the perpetual engine of corruption, greed, and cronyism. From Judge Rakoff's Order For example, the Consent Judgment would effectively close the case without the S.E.C. adequately accounting for why, in contravention of its own policy, see Order, 8/25/08 (quoting the policy), it did not pursue charges against either Bank management or the lawyers who allegedly were responsible for the false and misleading proxy statements...

Say that, all things equal, you could fix a problem for $8000 or fix the same problem for $150. Which would you choose? Clearly, you are not Medicare.Proloquo2Go is a text-to-speech iPhone app that's meant to aid those with autism, cerebral palsy, ALS, Down Syndrome—pretty much anyone who has a disability that makes speaking a difficult venture. It costs $150.But Medicare/Medicaid restrictions won't pay for this software or the accompanying iPhone because the iPhone is not a uni-functional device. (A person with autism might play games on it, after all! Or call a doctor!)One family's alternative, as documented by...

What should one make of the tale of Stephen Farrell--the seemingly reckless New York Times reporter who was rescued by British soldiers on Sept. 9 after spending four days as a captive of the Taliban? A soldier died in the course of his rescue, leading sections of British public opinion to go ballistic, accusing Farrell not merely of selfishness, but of moral responsibility for the soldier's death. Is this reaction fair and justified? Stephen Farrell was a British citizen reporting from Afghanistan. He'd received very strong advice from British troops to stay out of a Taliban-controlled sector into which he...

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) said he would consider running for president in 2012, citing a changing political environment making President Obama seem more vulnerable. "I think that it's something I would consider," Santorum said during a conference call Tuesday organized by the Republican National Committee (RNC). "But I think that's as far as I'm willing to go three years out."

A large upper level low pressure system is spinning across the ArkLaTex and will likely continue to do so until late this week and possibly into the beginning of next. This keeps things very unsettled with waves of rain from northeast Texas to Georgia.

The main obstacle to a stable and just world order is the United States.”—George Soros - “George Soros is an evil man. He’s anti-God, anti-family, anti-American, and anti-good.” —Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson - Is it possible to lay the global financial meltdown, the radicalizing of the Democratic Party, and America’s moral decline, at the feet of one man? It is indeed possible. If George Soros isn’t the world’s preeminent “malignant messianic narcissist,” he’ll do until the real thing comes along. Move over, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot. There’s a new kid on the block. What we have in Soros,...

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Gold futures climbed back above the $1,000-an-ounce mark to finish at a new record on Tuesday, after upbeat U.S. economic reports and as Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said the recession is likely over. The front-month September gold contract ended up $5.10, or 0.5%, at $1,005.0 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. This marks the highest settlement for a nearby gold contract. The more active December contract rose $5.20, or 0.5%, to finish at $1,006.30 an ounce. "Gold is continuing to knock on the $1,000-an-ounce door without making a concerted...

Houston Police said they were preparing murder charges against a man suspected in a serial killing spree that kept Acres Homes on edge for years, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday. A recent attack led police to arrest LaMarques Devon McWilliams, 34, on Aug. 26. He was charged with two counts of rape after an 18-year-old woman told police she was raped in a car. Officers captured him near the site of the latest attack, and HPD Homicide Squad investigators on Monday said the crimes were similar to some of the killings. Both women survived the most recent attacks, but once...

Since the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States, some have called for a law enforcement response rather than a military one. Monday's U.S. Special Forces raid on Somalia, which killed a suspected terrorist, has raised the issue again. Dan Volman, director of the African Security Research Project, questions the wisdom of the raid. "I think it's in some ways a real serious mistake and I think it will undermine a lot of the efforts by the United States and other parties to achieve a peaceful resolution or at least some kind of resolution…in Somalia," he says. He says...

Imagine if one black individual is beaten by two whites while a crowd of whites cheer on the attack. Would anybody question if this attack was racially motivated? “OBVIOUSLY, it was about race,” Right? What if the situation was reversed? We don’t have to imagine because this is exactly what happened when a white Belleville West High School student (Belleville, IL) was beaten aboard a bus on the way to school last Monday...

Kanye West Vs. Joe Wilson Posted By Joe Escalante On September 15, 2009 @ 11:01 am In Entertainment, Politics Some listeners to my Barely Legal Radio Program are asking me if Taylor Swift has a defamation case against Kanye West for his recent actions against her at the VMA awards, and if Barack Obama has a defamation case against Joe Wilson. Although it would be unimaginable to see her pursue this, Swift actually has a couple decent causes of action against West. In a suit for defamation you need damages. Provable damages in this case would center on the value...

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former President George W. Bush "seemed to feel considerable unease" with John McCain as the Republican presidential nominee, according to ex-speechwriter Matt Latimer in his tell-all memoir on his days in the White House. In Latimer's new book, "Speech-less: Tales of a White House Survivor," set to hit bookstores on September 22, he reveals Bush's reactions to the economic collapse, the presidential campaign, and other memorable events. GQ published an excerpt from the memoir in its October issue. Latimer said Bush liked Mitt Romney best and that he was "clearly not impressed with the McCain operation." Latimer...

We've heard it so many times now. If you oppose ObamaCare on rational, reasonable grounds, you are likely a racist who wants to destroy the president. The latest charge comes from Rep. Diane Watson. You won't believe this one. She says: "They are spreading fear and they're trying to see that the first president who looks like me -- fails." CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO THE FULL REMARKS of what this so-called leader had to say about anyone who disagrees with the president on factual grounds.
