Communist Group's Founder Says Ranks of Guerrillas to Grow More than 40 years after founding the Communist Party of the Philippines, a former literature professor who has long stayed outside his homeland says the party's military wing plans to significantly increase its armed capabilities in the next three years. Jose Maria Sison, who was imprisoned in 1977 by then-President Ferdinand Marcos and freed in 1986 by Corazon Aquino shortly after "People Power" put her in power, says the insurgency he seeded with Maoist ideas intends to use sympathizers to recruit 3,000 to 5,000 new guerrillas in impoverished rural areas. He...

By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer Laurie Kellman, Associated Press Writer – 24 mins ago WASHINGTON – A South Carolina Republican lawmaker shouted "You lie" at President Barack Obama as he addressed Congress on Wednesday. The congressman later apologized for his "lack of civility." In his speech in the House chamber, Obama was telling lawmakers that the Democratic plans for health care overhaul do not cover illegal immigrants. "The reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally," Obama said. "You lie!" Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., shouted from his seat, jabbing a finger in the air. In...

During his speech to Congress tonight (September 9th), President Obama defended his health care plan, saying that he had never proposed providing coverage to illegal immigrants. “You lie!” shouted Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC) prompting Obama to briefly pause in the delivery of his speech. I watched the whole thing, all 48 minutes of it and found the speech to be rather predictable, but I did jot down a few key points of interest for those interested in the general gist of the speech. Generally, Obama's tone reminded me slightly of his campaign rhetoric and he had some inspirational moments convincing his audience that something must be done. True, something needs to be done - but unfortunately his proposals are not the solution, because his analysis of the problem is incorrect. Worse still, despite weeks of discussion and analysis of several key "lies" and fallacies...

A Subconscious Marx-ism? I do not believe Obama is a socialist, but to me, at the end of his healthcare speech, he just evoked one of the most famous of Karl Marx’s phrases. Quoth Obama: We did not come to fear the future. We came here to shape it. Sayeth Marx in Theses on Feurebach: The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways; the point is to change it. Again, not equating Obama with socialism — that would be foolish — but the linguistic formulation is similar, especially because when Obama verbalized those two sentences he said them...

By now, everyone and they mama has heard that controversial green jobs adviser Van Jones has been forced to resign from his white house job. There are many differing takes on the subject, from ultra-rightwing commentators like Glenn Beck and his Fox News cohorts, to the liberal lefties over at HuffPo and Alternet. Whatever your take on Jones as an individual and green jobs in general, there's no question that the media frenzy surrounding him has been deafening. Earlier today, Davey D's website posted a new video by rapper Jasiri X called "The Crucifixion of Van Jones," which intersperses video...

The president's antiwar base is beginning to notice that its peace candidate is undertaking a troop buildup in Afghanistan that may rival the force levels it protested in Iraq. Protester Cindy Sheehan - no longer a media darling for some reason - now haunts Mr. Obama as she did Mr. Bush. "If George Bush is a war criminal, then Obama is a war criminal," she declared during a recent sojourn on Martha's Vineyard. The doves are coming home to roost.

After sitting through the much awaited speech. One that touched on many suggestions made by other republicans, yes, even suggestions made by President Bush. The Democrats cheered every time Obama mentioned the very same changes. "W" had made proposed changes to insurance companies practices, he even suggested a pool for small businesses to partake in. Yes even the dreaded liberal favorite - tort reforms. They torched "W" for making the very same proposals. My take is the MAIN problem here is not the public program and any cuts to medicare or other programs to create such a program. We have...

It looks like a Republican congressman's outburst on the House floor during President Barack Obama's address to Congress has momentarily eclipsed the speech itself, at least on Twitter. "Joe Wilson," the South Carolina Republican congressman who shouted "you lie" at the president, is the top trending topic on Twitter right now. Trending topics track the most popular conversation subjects on the microblogging site. "LIAR" and "R-SC" are also trending topics right now, meaning that three out of the ten topics are related to Wilson. "Obama" is the only non-Wilson topic trending about the speech right now. Wilson made his comment...

Here’s what you need to know. First, I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits – either now or in the future. Period. And to prove that I’m serious, there will be a provision in this plan that requires us to come forward with more spending cuts if the savings we promised don’t materialize. Part of the reason I faced a trillion dollar deficit when I walked in the door of the White House is because too many initiatives over the last decade were not paid for – from the Iraq War to tax breaks...

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama is including a proposal from his Republican rival last year as part of his health care reform plan. . . . . . Amid applause from his colleagues, McCain smiled and gave Obama a thumbs-up.

Everyone is talking about health care today and the president's speech tonight. I don't even need to watch the speech. Why? Because here's The One Thing: While everyone else is talking about the health care bill and the games of health care reform, let me sum up the speech this way: It doesn't matter. Wednesday's health care speech doesn't matter because this administration is going off a blueprint they haven't revealed yet. And while we don't know what their grand plan is, it feels more and more like a plan designed by the Teamsters, the seemingly criminal elements that run...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Wednesday formally cut off $11 million in aid to Honduras in response to the June 28 military coup that ousted the elected president of the poor Central American nation. The decision was taken by the board of the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), which aids countries with a track record of sound governance and economic policy and is headed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The State Department announced last week that it was terminating more than $30 million in non-humanitarian aid to Honduras, including the $11 million from the MCC, to pressure...

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama used only-in-Washington accounting Wednesday when he promised to overhaul the nation's health care system without adding "one dime" to the deficit. By conventional arithmetic, Democratic plans would drive up the deficit by billions of dollars. The president's speech to Congress contained a variety of oversimplifications and omissions in laying out what he wants to do about health insurance.

His opponent is a guy named Rob Miller, and the nutroots KOS'rs are going bananas sending him cash... This is the ACTBLUE page they are sending the money through. http://www.actblue.com/directory/SC/all/fed-house What makes this even worse is that Joe Wilson WAS CORRECT. Even though the bill SAYS it will not provide funds for Illegal Aliens, SCOTUS has already ruled that excluding illegal aliens from government Healthcare Programs is ILLEGAL SEE: http://www.bu.edu/law/central/jd/organizations/journals/pilj/vol17no2/documents/17-2CheslerNote.pdf They put it in the Bill for COVER, KNOWING that SCOTUS would strike that part of it!!!
