But today, the White House indicated that as a gesture of bipartisanship, President Obama would discuss malpractice reform. “The president is going to talk about the downside of what many doctors have told him is the practicing of defensive medicine, where doctors because they are worried about this order more and more tests in order to make sure that they don't get sued,” Gibbs said on CNN. “That costs our system billions and billions of dollars every year.”

Democratic officials are staying mum on some online images of Democratic National Convention Chair Nancy Pelosi's "Official Certification of Nomination" naming Barack Obama, of "5046 South Greenwood Avenue" in Chicago and Joe Biden, of "1209 Barley Mill Road" in Wilmington, Del., as the party's candidates for president and vice president in 2008. The differences between the two documents that have been posted on bloggers, as well as linked in a report by the Canada Free Press, are revealing. One references Pelosi's verification of Obama's eligibility to serve as president "under the provisions of the United States Constitution," while the other...

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters on Air Force One this morning that President Obama has not yet put the finishing touches on his planned address this evening to a joint session of Congress. "He's still working on it," Gibbs said. "…he came back from Camp David Monday with many handwritten pages of notes that he gave to the speechwriters. He got another draft incorporating more edits last night, and worked on it with the speechwriters before he left this morning. So my sense is he'll be tinkering with this some this afternoon, but my sense is this...

Return of the 'Den Mother on Steroids' 'Sarah Palin's uncanny ability to shape the entire health care debate using only a computer and a Facebook page could prove a turning point in the former governor's political career Tonight, President Barack Obama will address a joint session of Congress and, by all accounts, will put forth a detailed description of what he wants from lawmakers in terms of health care reform. Obama, however, isn't the only one getting specific. About a month after turning the health care debate on its ear with a well-researched, impeccably cited note on her Facebook page...

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- The White House released the following excerpts from President Obama's address to a joint session of Congress later on Wednesday. "I am not the first President to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last. It has now been nearly a century since Theodore Roosevelt first called for health care reform. And ever since, nearly every President and Congress, whether Democrat or Republican, has attempted to meet this challenge in some way. A bill for comprehensive health reform was first introduced by John Dingell Sr. in 1943. Sixty-five years later, his...

QUESTION: On the MCC meeting, Ian -- MR. KELLY: Yeah. QUESTION: The Honduras – what – is there anything more that can be done? I was under the impression that this had already been dealt with. MR. KELLY: Well, the board has to decide – you know how we feel. We terminated our assistance to Honduras last week. QUESTION: Is there more than the 11 million that -- MR. KELLY: Well, there is MCC money, too. I keep looking over at Arshad, because I know Arshad is an expert on this. But the MCC board has to decide on what...

In anticipation of President Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress this evening, the Center for Individual Freedom released a new video entitled "ObamaCare and America's Entitlement Kids," which highlights the fundamental flaws in President Obama's plan to reform health care. The video points out that U.S. spending obligations for current entitlements, including Medicare and Social Security, is already more than $51 trillion. Broken down by household, that's the equivalent of forcing every American family to bear the costs of raising two additional children. But instead of fixing the entitlement problem, President Obama's health care plan would add an...

Tales of health care horror from the UK offers glimpse of what could await us at home, should the Democrats' health care reform pass So, I've been seeing a whole lot of horror stories coming out of the UK with regard to health care recently, including accounts of people wrongly placed into the country's end-of-life care rationing process. All have been heart-wrenching, and all should make an impact on the debate here. For me, as the father of a little girl who was born six weeks' premature and left the hospital at less than five pounds, one particular story about...

Sarah Palin popped up again today on the Wall Street Journal's Op-Ed page to renew her accusation that President Obama was advocating "death panels." Never mind that lawmakers have already abandoned the proposal that gave rise to the original "death panel" hysteria, namely, a provision allowing Medicare to pay doctors no more than once every five years to counsel patients about their options for "end of life" care. (Some top geriatricians think such counseling would actually give the elderly more control by encouraging them to declare their preferences while they're still capable of doing so. But I digress.) This time,...

Today, we are constantly being told, the United States faces a health care crisis. Medical costs are too high, and health insurance is out of reach of the poor. The cause of this crisis is never made very clear, but the cure is obvious to nearly everybody: government must step in to solve the problem. Eighty years ago, Americans were also told that their nation was facing a health care crisis. Then, however, the complaint was that medical costs were too low, and that health insurance was too accessible. But in that era, too, government stepped forward to solve the...

Edward and Maria Moller are worried about losing their house — not now, but in 2013. That is when the suburban San Diego schoolteachers will see their mortgage payments jump, most likely beyond their ability to pay. Like millions of buyers during the boom, the Mollers leveraged their way into a house they could not otherwise afford by taking out a loan that required them to make only interest payments at first, putting off payments on the principal for several years.

President Barack Obama warned American teenagers on Tuesday of the dangers of putting too much personal information on Internet social networking sites, saying it could come back to haunt them in later life. The presidential words of advice follow recent studies that suggest U.S. employers are increasingly turning to sites such Facebook and News Corp's MySpace to conduct background checks on job applicants. Taking part in a question-and-answer session with a group of 14- and 15-year-old school students, Obama was asked by one pupil for some advice on becoming U.S. president. "Well, let me give you some very practical tips....

Something big is brewing over at Foxnews. Glenn Beck has been foreshadowing a big story all week. Tonight he really pushed the envelope suggesting that it is so big, we won't be talking about health care reform tomorrow. This is bold. President Obama is addressing a joint session of congress tonight on the issue of health care. For Beck to suggest it won't even be the big topic tomorrow indicates he is sitting on a mighty big story.
