. OK, here goes. I've worked in the city (Manhattan) my entire adult career. I worked for Frank B. Hall Insurance Brokers in the Financial District; the former HQ of TWA in Midtown Manhattan before the airline was taken over by Ichan; and for the Helmsley Organization in Midtown before moving to their Chelsea location. I've worked hard and climbed the ladder so to speak. For the last 3 years I have been driving into work, having attained a perk--my own reserved parking space. I live in Brooklyn. Born and bred. Having paid my dues, I do not start work...

On My.BarackObama.com (Obama's "Organizing For America" headquarters), Team BO is declaring war on terrorism. On 9/11, O-heads all over the country will take a stand against the forces of evil by flooding the switchboards on Capitol Hill. -* RECLAIM OUR LAND FROM THE HEIRS OF, YES: BIN LADEN *---* YOU KNOW IT'S TRUE *--- “All 50 States are coordinating in this – as we fight back against our own Right-Wing Domestic Terrorists who are subverting the American Democratic Process, whipped to a frenzy by their Fox Propaganda Network ceaselessly re-seizing power for their treacherous leaders.“ “DEFEAT ANTI-DEMOCRATIC FORCES OF HATE...

I'm no political scientist (well, I'm not the kind that gets paid to "do" such science at some university) but I'm fairly certain this last Labor Day holiday weekend -- where he could stand in front of adoring labor unions and bask in their adulation all day -- was one that Barack Obama wished could have gone on for, say, 2 or 3 years. I say this because it's my guess the man in the Oval Office most likely isn't looking forward to the return of the silly season (otherwise known as Congress going back into session) and all that...

Wolves were domesticated no more than 16,300 years ago in southern China, a new genetic analysis suggests—and it's possible the canines were tamed to be livestock, not pets, the study author speculates. "In this region, even today, eating dog is a big cultural thing," noted study co-author Peter Savolainen, a biologist at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. "And you can also see in the historical records as far back as you can go that eating dogs has been very common" in East Asia. "Therefore, you have to think of the possibility that this was one of the...

In his past incarnation as the president of the conservative Club for Growth, Pat Toomey would have been hard-pressed to praise any speech from President Obama – no less one that’s been maligned by conservative activists. But as he seeks to win over independents and moderates in his Pennsylvania Senate campaign, Toomey is taking a markedly different approach: Even as conservative critics accused the president of trying to indoctrinate students with a back-to-school speech, Toomey called the president’s speech to high school students “inspiring” and “moving.”

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Bernard Madoff's whistle-blower and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's top enforcer will testify before Congress this week on how the SEC failed to uncover Madoff's $65 billion fraud, a congressional panel said on Monday. Harry Markopolos, a fraud examiner who tried to warn regulators that Madoff's business was a fraud, and the SEC's Director of Enforcement Robert Khuzami are expected to testify at the Senate Banking committee's hearing on Thursday.

Does anyone here know how George Soros and Tom Lantos and the like were accepted for immigration into this country? AND why is it that these "refugees" often turn out to be SO anti-american? Just wondering.

The vast majority of dog breeds have emerged only in the last several centuries as a result of artificial selection. As new breeds are regularly developed, the many potential varieties within the dog kind are revealed. One distinction among breeds is their unique coats. Recent genetics analysis found that a huge range of dog fur textures are specified almost entirely by just three genes....

America has been greatly blessed by God and has stood as the greatest country in the history of the world for over 200 years. America has many foreign and domestic enemies that are seeking her destruction. This thread is a daily call and reminder for people of faith who believe in God and in the power of prayer to make a commitment to intercede for America at this critical time in her history2 Chronicles 7:14If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I...

It would seem only a matter of time before someone proposes that a New York street or highway or building be rechristened in honor of the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy. .... His name is bound to pop up because he was widely admired in a city where Democrats outnumber everyone else by roughly a zillion to one. Honoring him would also complete a place-name trifecta for Kennedy brothers. New York is already home to an airport named for President John F. Kennedy and a bridge, the former Triborough, rededicated last year in honor of Senator Robert F. Kennedy.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend.

(Sept. 8) -- While you were out this Labor Day weekend, you might have missed Sunday's resignation of Van Jones, President Obama's "green jobs czar." Plenty of commentators noticed and, two days later, they're still chattering about all the implications. Most see it as an example of the White House caving in to pressure from conservatives or trying to eliminate distractions from the president's renewed push for health care reform. For some, it marks Glenn Beck's ascendance to a leading role in the media opposition to the Obama administration. The Fox News host portrayed Jones as a radical and a...

2:32 PM 9/8/2009 — It’s been a week since the Dead Kennedy Show aired on TV; and, since Father Venditti has already dealt with the canonical and spiritual aspects of the whole thing, your PP would like to reflect a little on what it might mean in the whole spectrum of the development of Catholicism in the United States. As distastefull and scandalous as we all know the Dead Kennedy Show was, it has, inadvertently, betrayed some rather encouraging signs. As little as thirty years ago, the outrage that exploded among ordinary Catholics in the wake of the Show would...

Last October was a pretty brutal time to be in the prognostication business. I had just called Gold the opportunity of a lifetime at the end of August at a price of around $800/ounce. By the time late October came around, the price had fallen to around $725 and the catcalls had begun in earnest. The Keynesian Kakistocracy was out in full force, hurling insults so rich and humorous that I felt compelled to write some of them down. Now a year later it is time to do another quick review and probably set myself up for yet another barrage...

If I recall correctly, Major Garrett was discussing the Van Jones story and said something I found amazing. I thought he reported that the White House said that they knew about Jones' past and statements. The White House (or the President) claims that Van Jones was up front with them about these things, but they thought it would not be an issue. Does anyone else recall this?

BY END-JULY 2009, sales of new US Treasury bonds had already outstripped full-year sales in calendar 2008. Creating money from nowhere, the Fed's asset-purchase scheme bought bonds equal to more than 18% of that 7-month record, effectively financing $224bn of the total $1.2 trillion in new government bonds. No, the Fed didn't simply hand that cash straight to the government. But it funded the national debt via the primary dealers who did buy the bonds...only to sell them onto the Fed...and thus stumped up 32% of the net cash flowing to Treasury from its bond sales (gross issuance minus maturities)....

Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) both cast doubt Tuesday on their support for a public-option component to the Democratic healthcare reform effort, suggesting the Obama administration is still struggling to win over key Senate centrists. However, Collins and Lieberman both told The Hill they are more supportive of a “trigger” concept floated by Collins’ Senate colleague, Maine Republican Olympia Snowe, which calls for a public option to be implemented if insurance companies fail to fix the current system’s cost inefficiencies. Reform supporters and critics alike are watching Collins, who cast a key vote this winter for President...
