In what has to be one of the greatest examples of arrogance ever on public display, President Obama and other world leaders agreed together to control - the temperature of the world! Despite a report from Obama's own Environmental Protection Agency saying the world's temperature is not warming, the world leaders - with Obama in the lead - declared they would keep the temperature of the world from rising more than 3.6F. Obama and these other world leaders have drank the Al Gore "Global Warming" - uh, excuse me - Climate Change Koolaid. He is ready to destroy the economy...

One of the most enduring lies in American politics is the myth of small-business job creation.

You probably know it by heart: Small businesses create 60, 70, even 80 % of all the new jobs in the USA.

Back in the 1980s, I was a senior editor at Inc. magazine, where I worked on some of the articles in which some of the seeds of this myth were planted. Up to that point, there was a widespread tendency to conflate the success of the economy with the fortunes of big business, so it was rather useful to have some data highlighting the importance of small firms.

In addition to the members of his own family, Michael Jackson collaborated with a number of top performers like Paul McCartney and the cast of “We Are the World”. But one of his better (and stranger) guest spots was on the hit single “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell (currently heard in remix form on those Geico commercials). Rockwell was born Kennedy Gordy, the son of Motown founder Berry Gordy. Though he was signed to his father’s label, he supposedly managed to secure a deal without Berry’s knowledge. Jackson (who was a childhood friend of Rockwell’s) sang the hook for “Somebody’s...

* U.S. judge orders U.S. govt to say how far it would go * Switzerland says would stop UBS handing over client data * Berne says may seize UBS client data, if necessary * Judge may be pushing for a settlement A judge ordered the U.S. government to say whether it was prepared to shut Swiss bank UBS AG (UBSN.VX) (UBS.N) in the United States as part of a battle to learn the identity of 52,000 secret accounts suspected of being used by Americans to avoid taxes. U.S. District Judge Alan Gold, set to preside over a hearing Monday of...

A bank clerk fell five storeys to his death down an office stairwell seconds after being seen using his mobile phone, an inquest heard yesterday. Investigators are trying to establish if Richard Pow, 26, slipped and fell over the railing while distracted by the handset. Mr Pow, whose fiance Eleanor Sharman is pregnant with his child, had cycled to work at the HBOS building in Leeds on Monday last week and had just used the office changing rooms on the fifth floor. Deputy coroner Richard Manning said: 'He was standing on the fifth floor stairwell landing, apparently either texting or...

There was a LOT of substantive news today. Beyond the "reformed" and released Gitmo detainee, Mullah Zakir, fighting in Afghanistan to kill American troops, there is some lighter news. Our Marines are man-handling the Taliban to such a point that the terrorists are dawning burqas to scurry away like frightened mice. We hope you enjoy the substance of today's news diggs! http://diggsandburies.blogspot.com/

LADERA RANCH – A 45-year-old woman who was stabbed and robbed inside a gated community on the Fourth of July is believed to have been targeted by two men because of her ethnicity, authorities said. The two men stabbed the woman on her forearm, held her against her will and ripped her shirt open while yelling racial epithets at her, authorities said. The woman, a Latina who works as a custodian for the Ladera Ranch Maintenance Corp., was emptying trash outside the community’s clubhouse when she was attacked. “They told me I wasn’t worth anything,” said Maria Guadarrama. “They said...

I am continually amazed by the media. And not just the state run media, you know, all of those who have the slobbering love affair with Obama. I mean you kinda expect that. They worked so darned hard to get him elected and want to keep him there. Fend off any challenger, especially one who stands an incredible good chance of beating him. But the ones that get me are the so-called conservatives. I know much of it has to do with the beltway mentality. The old Washington/New York elite. The ones that don’t get out of the big city...

Sarah Palin’s sudden announcement that she will resign as Alaska’s governor has thrown unforeseen risk into the already uncertain market for books about her — and by her. Earlier this year, Palin inked a deal with HarperCollins for her memoir, due out in spring 2010. Washington lawyer Robert B. Barnett helped her secure an advance that has been reported to be several million dollars. The actual sales of her story, however, will depend entirely on how she plays her next hand. “If she has an eye on 2012, she probably will write a carefully worded, bland policy book that won’t...

President Barack Obama gets a lackluster 49 - 44 percent approval rating in Ohio, considered by many to be the most important swing state in a presidential election, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. This is President Obama's lowest approval rating in any national or statewide Quinnipiac University poll since he was inaugurated and is down from 62 - 31 percent in a May 6 survey. By a small 48 - 46 percent margin, voters disapprove of the way Obama is handling the economy, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. This is down from a 57 -...

JERUSALEM — Hamas already has political control of Gaza, and now there are concerns that the Islamic militant group may be trying to enforce a strict interpretation of Islamic law. Hamas police recently tried to detain a young woman who was walking with a man along the Gaza beach. The woman says the man she was with and two of his peers were detained, beaten and ordered to sign statements promising not to engage in immoral activities.

The Obama administration might like to "spread the wealth around," but its proposed "health care reform" wouldn't spread consumer choice around. Rather, it would constrict consumer choice substantially — except for the very rich. That's the great irony of President Obama's ambitious health care agenda: His administration, which seems to feel little empathy for the rich, is paving the way to a two-tiered system in which only the very rich would have a choice. Under ObamaCare, the rich would continue to get the care they want — whether here or abroad — by paying for it out of their own...

Czar is the perfect title for Carol Browner, the person President Obama chose to rule over climate policy. The woman runs her kingdom like an autocrat, taking no prisoners and she has a history of demanding secrecy for example.....When working for the Clinton Administration, Browner had her files erased Against a court order, As Michele Malkin reported back in January: According to testimony in a freedom of information lawsuit filed against EPA by the Landmark Legal Foundation, a Virginia-based conservative legal watchdog group, Browner commanded a computer technician on Jan. 19, 2001: “‘I would like my files deleted. I want...

PARIS (AFP) — French lawmakers opened hearings Wednesday on whether to ban the burka, calling in experts who said France should act to discourage Muslim women from wearing the head-to-toe veil. President Nicolas Sarkozy has proclaimed the burka "not welcome" in secular France, drawing a warning from Al-Qaeda's north Africa wing that it was ready to "take revenge for the honour of our daughters and sisters." Home to Europe's biggest Muslim minority, France has set up a special panel of 32 lawmakers to consider whether a law should be enacted to bar Muslim women from wearing the full veil, known...

In an astonishing admission, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she was under the impression that legalizing abortion with the 1973 Roe. v. Wade case would eliminate undesirable members of the populace, or as she put it "populations that we don't want to have too many of." Her remarks, set to be published in the New York Times Magazine this Sunday but viewable online now, came in an in-depth interview with Emily Bazelon titled, "The Place of Women on the Court." (snip) Question: Are you talking about the distances women have to travel because in parts of the...
