Where are the threads for this hurricane this time around? It's supposed to be a cat 4 and I would appreciate information. I have done a search and can only find a prayer thread.

An anxious murmur is rising among black voters as the presidential race tightens: What if Sen. Barack Obama loses? Black talk-show hosts and black-themed Web sites are being flooded with callers and bloggers reflecting a nervousness—and anger—over the campaign. Monday night, Bev Smith, a nationally syndicated black talk-show host in Pittsburgh, devoted her entire three-hour show to the question: “If Obama doesn’t win, what will you think?” “My audience is upset,” she said. “Some people said they would be so angry it would be reminiscent of the [1960s] riots—that is how despondent they would be.” Warren Ballentine, a nationally syndicated...

FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin left open the option Thursday of waging war with Russia if it were to invade neighboring Georgia and the former Soviet republic were a NATO ally. "We will not repeat a Cold War," Palin said in her first television interview since becoming Republican John McCain's vice presidential running mate two weeks ago.

Hi, sorry for the dumb question. This will be my first contribution to a political campaign; is there a way I can contribute DIRECTLY to McCain/Palin? If I have to, I'll give to the RNC, but I'd prefer that none of my money go to a few of these pinhead RINO's the RNC might want to spend on. I also don't quite understand what the whole "public financing" thing is about...

(My comment) The site FiveThirtyEight uses a unique model to crunch the polling data from around the country...and they show McCain with an electoral college lead: Obama 266 - McCain 272.

/begin my translation Kim Jong-il Experiencing Intermittent Irregular Seizure from Stroke Chinese Intelligence, "Will have long-term effect on his rule" Park Seung-joon, Beijing N. Korean leader Kim Jong-il, who is said to be recovering from stroke, is experiencing intermittent and irregular seizure, which is why he could not attend the 60th anniversary celebration of N. Korean state's founding on Sept. 9, a reliable diplomatic source on N. Korea in Beijing said on Sept. 11. The source said that a senior Chinese official visited Pyongyang a few days before the anniversary and did meet Kim Jong-il, and he reported (his findings)...

Barack Obama has turned into Michael Dukakis, John Kerry and Al Gore. Sarah Palin has turned into Ronald Reagan. Thus the electoral map looks fairly typically red where it counts and blue where it doesn't. Ohio and Florida show up red, which, unless Colorado and Nevada and New Mexico flip en masse from red to blue and are bigger than I think, pretty much means the old ball game. Democrats win the cities. John McCain and the moose-hunter take all that space in between. For all the talk of newness and history-making, we've seen this presidential race before. Democrats are...

Obama is now saying he has a "sense" of service. Praised union. BS. Praising the Military ROTC on Columbia Campus. He said as President of The United State!!! Like this jerk has already been ELECTED. You have to win an election to be President. It's not given by the Drive-by media and popular press!!! Ok it's not up to the Government to determine how successfull I am!!! Leave me alone and I will show you with my buisness sense and will to succeed. The government will determine how much profits I can make? How much before it's a winfall profit...

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - California has become the main front in a war over offshore oil drilling. Congress may soon vote to allow drilling for oil at at least 50 miles from America's coastline - but not in the Golden State, if leaders have anything to say about it. The California Assembly has taken a firm stand against the drilling, saying that the move would protect the state's beaches. Many drivers who cram into the state's packed freeways are singing a different tune. Some told NBC Bay Area they want lower prices now - and if drilling is what it takes...

It's funny how the harder you look at something, the harder it can be to understand it. I can't recall a US presidential election that has attracted more attention. But neither can there have been a time when the world has watched what goes on in America with the nonplussed, horrified incomprehension it has now. Travelling in Britain this week, I've been asked repeatedly by close followers of US politics if it can really be true that Barack Obama might not win. Thoughtful people cannot get their head around the idea that Mr Obama, exciting new pilot of change, supported...

On a day when people paused and prayed, when Barack Obama joined John McCain at Ground Zero and made peace with Bill Clinton over lunch, when the ads were stilled and the e-mails sheathed just for a while, GOP Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin held a peace conference of her own with the Mainstream Media, when she sat down with ABC News anchor Charles Gibson in Fairbanks, Alaska. Charles Gibson, gentleman journalist, was not about to field dress Sarah Palin before a national television audience, but at times he seemed to be trying. They were sitting practically toe to toe, and...

In a bid to jump-start the snail's-pace reconstruction at the site, the mayor called on Gov. Paterson to dismantle the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. Bloomberg branded the state agency "just another level of bureaucracy you don't need" - and in a power grab, he said its redevelopment mission should be "handed over" to City Hall. Noting that one of LMDC's signature jobs is to demolish the toxic Deutsche Bank tower at 130 Liberty St., he said another agency, the Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center, is better suited to finishing the task by the July 2009 deadline. "The multilayers of authority...

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran on Thursday rejected US accusations that the Iranian shipping company IRISL was involved in Tehran's alleged nuclear weapons programme, the official news agency IRNA reported. "This US claim is like other allegations that independent countries are being accused of, without providing any evidence," the state shipping company said in a statement. The United States said on Wednesday it would slap sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines and 18 other affiliated entities for providing logistical services to Iran's Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics. "Not only does IRISL facilitate the transport of cargo...

Videos that Incite Violence Will Be Banned WASHINGTON - Homeland Security Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., Thursday hailed Google's decision to strengthen the standards required for videos to appear on YouTube - a move taken in direct response to the Senator's complaints about violent Islamist videos that have been posted on the popular website. Google's community guidelines for YouTube will now bar videos that incite violence, in addition to videos that contain hate speech and gratuitous violence. "YouTube was being used by Islamist terrorist organizations to recruit and train followers via the Internet and to incite terrorist attacks around the world,...

Excerpt - United Airlines saw a 76 percent drop in its share price Monday, after it was reported that the company had filed for bankruptcy protection. The news story turned out to have been six years old and had been erroneously picked up by the Google News service. It was then posted to the Bloomberg Professional network. In the words of duckcommander80 from Yahoo Finance's message board, who lost $19,000, "WHO THE HELL DO WE SUE???????" It's not clear... ~ snip ~

11 Sep 2008 07:55 pm I just read it. I'm not sure how to respond because I believe the entire last two weeks have been a farce, and ABC News is now an integral, enabling part of that farce. It's also unfair to judge a partial interview, because Gibson has so far asked no questions about her record as governor or mayor, and none of the tough questions that a press conference would ask. Maybe that is to come. So I will reserve judgment until I'm able to watch and read the entire interview. All I have learned thus far...

Everyone is trying to get the measure of Sarah Palin, the woman who was rocketed from small-state obscurity to the national stage when John McCain selected her as his running mate on the 2008 Republican ticket. Republican senators and governors are admitting in interviews that they don't know much about her. When I interviewed him last week, former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., said: "Most of us don't really know her personally." Well, Anne Kilkenny does know Sarah Palin. Kilkenny's a good citizen of Wasilla, Alaska, the city where Palin got her political start as a City Council member...
