The fact that racist-murderer Benjamin Nathaniel Smith was able to buy guns illegally is being used by gun-control enthusiasts as a rationale for more government regulation of firearms. Think about that logic, folks. Smith tried to buy guns legally and couldn't get through the background check because of a protective order against him from an ex-girlfriend. But he was not arrested for trying to buy guns illegally. He was simply turned away. His next step was to turn to the black market (which must have been a tough call for a white supremacist). He had no trouble buying what he ...

With scarcely a murmur of dissent, the seemingly impossible was accomplished. Lacking understanding, the Swiss people voted this spring to end the unique soundness of their currency as well as their country’s financial power and independence. Oblivious to the consequences of abandoning the Swiss franc’s tie to gold, the people of Switzerland — the world’s only direct democracy — approved a new constitution that abolishes the traditional gold convertibility that for generations made the Swiss franc literally "as good as gold." This historic decision is the culmination of an orchestrated international assault to wipe out the last remaining obstacle to ...

Date: Sat, 21 Sep 1996 21:33:31 PST Subject: Thinking could be dangerous to your health... From: novaone@juno.com (Ed W Mason) Thinker's Anonymous It started out innocently enough. I began to think at parties now and then to loosen up. Inevitably though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker. I began to think alone - "to relax," I told myself - but I knew it wasn't true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was thinking all the time. I began to think on the job. I knew ...

U.S. aircraft bombed a military target in northern Iraq Thursday after coming under anti-aircraft fire, the U.S. armed forces' European Command said.``Damage to Iraqi forces is currently being assessed. All coalition aircraft departed the area safely,'' it said in a statement from its base in Germany. Such attacks are not uncommon in the no-fly zone imposed by U.S. and allied aircraft over northern Iraq. The last such incident was July 2, after which Iraq said it had proof its anti-aircraft defenses had hit a Western plane, although the U.S. command said all returned safely. As last week, F-15 and F-16 jets dropped ...

***The Budget Surplus: Don't Blow It*** When the Federal Reserve, the Office of Management & Budget, the Congressional Budget Office, the Democrats, the Republicans and the nation's top economists all agree, it is time to declare victory for the notion of a New Economy. Whether it's the debate over interest rates or the negotiations over the budget surplus, policymakers now start their discussions with the assumption that the economy can grow significantly faster with less inflation and lower unemployment than it could for the past two decades. Corporate CEOs, investors, and anyone living in Silicon Valley, of course, have ...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon is conducting a quick study of the NATO-led air war against Yugoslavia to draw lessons for troop training and for shaping the U.S. military in the new millennium. John Hamre, the deputy defense secretary, told a Pentagon news conference Thursday that the study's findings also would be used to adjust planning for the 2001 defense budget now being drawn up. "We've got to figure out what worked and what didn't work'' in the 78 days of bombing, Hamre said. He said Defense Secretary William Cohen wants a "quick look'' at the study's results by ...

A View From Here -- Deb Weiss A VIEW FROM HERE by deb weiss Traps For The Young July 8, 1999 From the moment we first heard of a 21-year-old misfit named Benjamin Nathaniel Smith, and his Fourth of July weekend killing spree, we knew we were in for the Columbine treatment. The facts are simple -- and unbearably sad. Smith, who was evil, or insane, or both, belonged to a racialist cult called the World Church of the Creator, the "brainchild" of a thug named Matthew Hale. Hale peddles (mostly online) a drearily familiar toxic stew of white supremacy ...

First Lady Courts Jewish Leaders By BARRY SCHWEID .c The Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) - Hillary Rodham Clinton, in pursuit of a U.S. Senate seat from New York, is assuring Jewish leaders she considers Jerusalem ``the eternal and indivisible capital'' of Israel. She also says she will actively advocate locating the U.S. Embassy there. ``Of course, the timing of such a move must be sensitive to Israel's interest in achieving a secure peace with its neighbors,'' Mrs. Clinton wrote Mandell I. Ganchrow, the president of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, which represents nearly 1,000 Orthodox synagogues in ...

THE UNABOMBER AT HARVARD. Alexander Cockburn reports in the LA Times that that Theodore Kaczynski, a.k.a. the Unabomber, was yet another volunteer in mind-control experiments sponsored by the CIA at Harvard in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Writes Cockburn: "Michael Mello, author of the recently published book, 'The United States of America vs. Theodore John Kaczynski,' notes that at some point in his Harvard years--1958 to 1962--Kaczynski agreed to be the subject of 'a psychological experiment.' Mello identifies the chief researcher for these only as a lieutenant colonel in World War II, working for the CIA's predecessor organization, the ...

WASHINGTON - If President Clinton's extra $1 trillion in the Federal budget shows up as surplus tax revenues this writer will eat his hat at high noon at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. That so-called surplus will, according to White house economists, "flood the Treasury over the ten years." However, there is rain on this parade! Independent analysts say that Mr. Clinton is relying on highly dubious assumptions. Amitai Etzioni, the noted ethicist at George Washington University told reporters this week that the role of the economist is decreasing in banks, investment companies, and government, and that the few major economic ...

Lawsuit Alleges FEMA Funded by Laundered Drug Profits by Uri Dowbenko Speculation about the mysterious origin and funding of the so-called Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has continued for decades. The history of FEMA as an illegal unconstitutional entity has been most recently exposed in an unprecedented lawsuit against the CIA and its alleged drug trafficking and money laundering operations. In September 1998 a $63 million lawsuit (Case No. 98CV11829JLT) was filed by Massachusetts attorney Ray Kohlman on behalf of former Green Beret Bill Tyree. Kohlman, a former legal investigator for attorney William Pepper in the Martin Luther King ...

Many of the Kosovo war's most active cheerleaders are having second thoughts now that the bombing phase of the war has ended, the "rebuilding" phase has begun and the general uselessness of the campaign has become increasingly apparent. Some of the second thoughts are thoroughly reprehensible, of the "we didn't do enough damage" ilk. But some might contain germs that could spring into serious doubts the next time our leaders call on us to win one for the New World Order. The most common complaint, of course, is that the doggone war simply didn't do enough damage to the ...

Afiling petition to a federal judge last week raised the possibility that the FBI files case, one of the capital's great all-time mysteries, might yet be broken open--with political implications for Hillary Rodham Clinton. It requests the deposition of a former Clinton White House aide's ex-wife, who claims she observed her husband transferring FBI files into his laptop computer. The June 29 filing by the conservative Judicial Watch asked U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth in Washington to authorize the sworn testimony of Leslie Gail Kennedy, who was married until late 1994 to former White House Associate Counsel William H. ...

1915 GMT, 990708 Yugoslavia – Residents of Kosovo are reporting that the Albanian mafia is running rampant. On July 8, citizens of Kosovoka Mitrovica reported to the Agence France-Presse that they have seen the mafia smuggling drugs, cars and hi-fi equipment. Many members of the mafia are reportedly former "Segurimi," the infamous Albanian secret police during the communist era. Locals claim the mafia members are exploiting the misfortune of the Kosovar citizens and evading the attention of the Kosovo peacekeeping force, KFOR, successfully.

DENVER -- Bombing conspirator Terry Nichols will be back in court today to ask his judge for a new federal trial. Nichols, 44, is complaining that FBI leads on mystery accomplice John Doe 2 were withheld from his defense. At stake is Nichols' conviction for the Oklahoma City bomb plot and his life sentence. U.S. District Judge Richard Matsch will hear arguments today but is not expected to rule immediately. On Tuesday, prosecutors pointed out the U.S. Supreme Court recently refused a new trial to a death row inmate with "far stronger" claims of withheld evidence. In June, the court ...

For education and discussion only. Not for commercial use. WASHINGTON (AP) - The Clinton administration will consider sending U.S. troops to Congo as part of a possible U.N. peacekeeping mission following the end of an 11-month civil war in the volatile region, a U.S. official said Thursday. If American soldiers move into the Central African nation, it will be the first time the United States has engaged in peacekeeping duties in sub-Saharan Africa since 18 U.S. soldiers were killed in Somalia in 1993. ``We are eager to be supportive,'' State Department spokesman James Foley said, although he cautioned that ...
