The fur is flying between the Clintons and their former top aide, George Stephanopoulos. George is a turncoat, White House loyalists whisper. He's violated ancient protocol by penning a tell-all book -- "All Too Human" -- while the president remains in office. How can any future president solicit confidential advice without worry that the details will soon be told on Larry King, establishment types wonder? Hillary Clinton, reportedly, is especially mad at Stephanopoulos' betrayal. Our verdict: If there were ever two men who deserved each other, it's these two. And like practically every other Clinton misstep, the seeds of ...

A thousand Christians were "manacled to doors, then beaten and tortured with electric shocks to their genitals," according to a recent report issued by prison Fellowship founder Charles W. Colson. "Babies were not spared. Mothers were forced to lay their infants on the floor and watch helplessly while police struck them with sticks." Who would perpetrate such an atrocity? The government of Egypt, according to Colson's report. It happened in late October, as the nation's mostly Islamic leadership executed a "crackdown" on the Christian community. Yet Egypt, one of the "largest recipients" of American foreign aid, still receives billions in ...

AP Story CHICAGO (AP) -- The white supremacist suspect in last weekend's deadly two-state shooting spree got his guns last month from an illegal gun dealer, a federal agent said today. Benjamin Nathaniel Smith bought the guns from an unlicensed gun dealer in the Peoria area, said Jerry Singer, a special agent for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The rampage, which included shootings of minorities in several Illinois cities and in Bloomington, Ind., ended Sunday with Smith committing suicide as police tried to arrest him in the southern Illinois town of Salem. Singer said Smith bought a ...

Listen to a special talk radio interview/expose on the Free Republic at www.tjwalker.com. TJWalker.Com "Is the FreeRepublic.Com Really DeathThreat.Com?" (TJWalker.Com)-New York City-July 2 A TJWalker.Com investigation of the popular political web site FreeRepublic.Com reveals that its political influence is rising even as death threats occur more frequently on its message boards. While web sites of all ideological persuasions occasionally have death threats posted, most remove the calls for violence within hours or even minutes. The Free Republic stands out for its willingness to leave death threats posted prominently for months at a time, thus lending credibility to the notion that ...

First Lady Takes Step Toward History By Laurence McQuillan WASHINGTON (Reuters) - After decades of fighting political wars for her husband, first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton now is chasing her own dreams -- a quest that may force her to clarify the lingering mystery about who she is. Hailed by some as a saintly champion, demonized by others for advocating radical ideas and second-guessed by many for her loyalty to her husband, the wife of President Clinton remains an enigma despite living in the White House for 6-1/2 years. Aggrieved wife. Overbearing feminist. Outstanding lawyer. Financial manipulator. Independent thinker. Inflexible ...

NEW YORK, JUL 5 (ZENIT).- Two of the principal conclusions to emerge from the special session of the U.N. General Assembly, which ended in New York on July 2, and was focused on a review of the commitments adopted by the U.N. Conference on Population and Development held in Cairo in September, 1994, are easier access to abortion and the right of minors to abortion without parental consent. Differences Just as was the case in Cairo five years ago, New York also witnessed an obvious division between the Western countries and the developing countries, grouped in the so-called G-77. ...

This is in fact a request for information. I want to know which nation's kfor(ces) control the resources in Kosovo, for example, the coal mines seized by the kla and the Stari Trg (Trepca?) mining, smelting, manufacturing complex. If I were the Russian tactical officer, I would want to prevent any further seizures. In these circumstances having troops in every partition might be better than having a specific area. Please reply by e-mail or here, whichever.

SHOULD CONSERVATIVES DUMP THE GOP? By Paul L. Hepperla & Jean F. Drew (a.k.a. betty boop) The next Presidential election is already upon us. The debate is beginning within each major party about who is most fit to serve as our next President. There is also steady talk, at least among Republicans, about the possible emergence of a third party, and whether a vote for a third-party candidate makes good political sense or is tantamount to political suicide for Conservativism. In order to judge the third-party issue fairly and adequately, we first need to answer certain pertinent questions. This ...

By Jim HeintzThe Associated Press P R I S T I N A, Yugoslavia, July 6 — A new contingent of Russian peacekeepers could help ease the fears of Kosovo’s minority Serbs, who have come under attack from vengeful ethnic Albanians. An Il-76 transport plane carrying Russian peacekeepers left today from the southern Russian town of Ivanovo and arrived in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, a province of Serbia. It was to be followed by three more planes today, the Interfax news agency said. Some 200 peacekeepers, 20 vehicles and 20 tons of other cargo were to be ferried to ...

We've seen the size of your wallet. Masquerade's over. Until now, George W. Bush has been disguised as an aw-shucks good ol' boy with namure on his boots and innocence in his heart--Mr. Outsider riding out of Texas to shake up the political establishment. "Howdy, pard. Howdy, ma'am, I'm hankerin' to run for pres-y-dent 'cause I'm a conservative with a heart. I'm gonna take on the big-money ...

London TIMES 7/3/99 Ian Brodie THE embarrassing mystery of why the US Army's Apache helicopters never flew in combat in Kosovo has at last been explained. The 24 Apaches, sent to Albania amid fanfare that they would hit Serbian artillery positions and tank columns from close quarters, were woefully under-equipped and the pilots under-trained. The truth of their inadequacies is contained in an "after-action" report by Brigadier-General Richard Cody, one of the army's most respected helicopter officers who planned and carried out successful Apache strikes in the Gulf War. The June 16 report complained that the level of inexperience among ...

Liberalism and Conservatism: The Same Philosophy The traditional paradigm of political philosophy is left vs. right. Liberals believe that government should cure social ills, but should not interfere in peoples' private lives. Conservatives, on the other hand, believe that government should encourage morality, but shouldn't meddle in the economy. Libertarians are neither conservative nor liberal. They represent the freedom aspects of both ideologies. Like conservatives they are against government involvement in the economy and the income tax. Like liberals they are for personal freedom from government censorship and drug laws. The key to understanding libertarianism is that it is opposition ...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The State Department cautioned Russia it could be denied U.S. assistance if it concluded new weapons deal with Syria. ``We would be very concerned about any new Russian arms sales to Syria or to any other designated state sponsor of terrorism,'' spokesman James Foley said Tuesday. Syria has been listed by the department as a sponsor of terrorism for 20 years. At the same time, the United States has been courting Syria to negotiate a peace treaty with Israel in which Syria hopes to recover lost strategic territory. Foley cited a law that authorizes withholding U.S. ...

London, July 6 (Bloomberg) -- Gold plunged to a 20-year low after the Bank of England sold 25 metric tons at a below-market price in the first of several auctions expected before next April. The bank sold the gold for $261.20 an ounce, a 0.4 percent discount on the price when bidding closed, raising $209.8 million that the U.K. will invest in bonds. The government joined other gold-holders, such as Australia, Belgium and Canada, that have shed the metal in favor of assets with higher returns. ``It was a huge disappointment,'' said Frederic Panizzutti, head of strategy at MKS Finance ...

Albany -- Potential Senate matchup sparking strong feelings, 16 months before Election Day There it was, in bold, patriotic red-white-and-blue letters, held up at a rally at the Albany International Airport in a sign of opposition an entire week before her arrival. "GO HOME,'' the handmade poster blared, "HIL-LIAR-Y.'' The vote for New York's open U.S. Senate seat is 16 months away and so far has no declared candidate. Yet it already has touched off a political maelstrom that threatens only to get more divisive between now and November 2000. And emotions surrounding Democratic favorite and First Lady Hillary Rodham ...
