(UPI Spotlight) Officials: Alert over WASHINGTON, July 1 (UPI) - The Secret Service says (Thursday) "the alert is over," and streets surrounding the White House have been reopened to traffic. Several streets had been closed after police received a report a man, possibly armed with a gun, was spotted on top of the Treasury Building adjacent to the White House. The Secret Service said the streets were closed as a precaution and Park Police said a search of the area turned up no suspect. The Park Police said the report was "an unfounded complaint." A member of Congress has charged that a Cabinet secretary threatened to dismiss an employee for talking to the lawmaker about a proposed reorganization of the agency. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) said Energy Secretary Bill Richardson told him that he planned to dismiss the employee for insubordination. WASHINGTON — U.S. Secret Service officers closed the Treasury Department building Thursday after an intruder was discovered on the roof, a spokeswoman said.
