Most libertarians operate on the assumption that behavior has no consequences. The problem is, it does. Care to substantiate that. No, nevermind, I know you won't.
Once uncloseted, homosexuals go on a rampage against anyone who disagrees with them.
Let me guess, you're not a psychologist, but you play one of Free Republic?
The result is speech codes, restricting free speech. Then the government forces schools to teach that homosexuality is normal,... [usual platitudes snipped]
Yeah, OK, but going back to exactly why you have the authority to tell someone what they can't do in their bedroom?
To: Dead Corpse
Good God! Are you still on that crap? Hasn't it been shot down ENOUGH for you?Its never been shot down, my privacy trumps the law.

Because private behavior has public consequences. Suppose I told you I was going to jump off the roof of my house. You might say, "Go ahead, it's your private affair and it's none of anyone's business."
But suppose I added a few details. Suppose I said, "If I get injured jumping off my house, I want you to pay my medical bills." And if you don't, I'll get the government to force you to do so. Then, suppose I demanded that the public schools teach your kids that jumping off a house is a viable and good lifestyle option, and that only bigots disapprove of it. Suppose I dragged the Boy Scouts into court, demanding that they present people who jump off houses as role models for the kids, and demand that the government shut them down if they fail to do so.
So I ask you: Will yesterday's sodomy ruling satisfy gays? Will they say, hey, all we wanted was to be left alone, and we'll take full personal responsibility for any diseases we might catch.
Nope, they'll demand subsidies, demand that kids be taught their lifestyle, demand that any private club or property owner that disapproves must be suppressed by the state. How long now till landlords are forced BY GOVERNMENT to rent to gay couples? Yesterday's ruling unleashed a tidal wave that will lead to bigger and more intrusive government. Far bigger than a little state sodomy law.
To: Dead Corpse
The precdent set by this ruling is that sexual activity between consenting adults in PRIVATE is none of the governments business. As it should be.

you are the exception that proves the rule. You achieve DESPITE your pot use. I smoke an occasional cigar and am not hooked tobacco yet.
I have seen otherwise. Family who continually party too much and have failed the series 7 many times.
But I am with you in a sense. Anyone who wants to sign their name in blood that they will NEVER take social sec, unemployment, mediX etc, should be allowed to smoke dope and do other drugs.
Of course, if you dope and drive(think Nick N who used to live next door to a beach house I used to frequent on Holden), you should be smoked.

But look what happens in San Fran. And the State is going bankrupt. Socialism collapses under its own weight. The only thing we can do is prevent it from spreading and pick up California land at a discount when the bankruptcies start going to court.
As for the Marine Corps, once you are in the Military you no longer have the same Constitutional protections the rest of the population enjoys. Banning gays in the military is STILL up to the Joint Chiefs via the UCMJ.

By invoking the race card, you proved my point.
We can now expect all the government intervention on behalf of gays that we've seen on behalf of racial minorities. Think about the consequences of that to our liberties.

Its never been shot down, my privacy trumps the law. Bravo Sierra. You are being willfully ignorant because you would have to admit you are wrong. You are the custodian of her Rights until she is 18. Period. You CANNOT have sex with your daughter until then. She can consent to have sex with as many other people she wants, but not you.
Get over it and leave your daughter alone.

Failing the 7? Good heavens, I'm not sure partying is to blame for that. I'd peg "lack of studying" as the culprit.

Go pester someone else with your illogical ranting. I really don't care and I'm not reading your crap anyway.
To: puroresu
By invoking the race card, you proved my point. The logic is the ame in both. If you can't see that, then I'd suggest one of those "brain booster" study courses.
Once again, you try and use the specter of bigger government to try and scare us off the issue. This ruling was a strike for LESS government interference in our lives. If it does cause problems with socialized medicine, then that will be even more fuel to get the government out of THAT area as well. Or can you not see that either?

Believe me, I am sympathetic to your points about privacy. But this case is about discovering illegal activity after a compliant of possible illegal activity.
The ruckus could have been about unconsensual S&M as far as a casual neighbor is concerned. Then we wonder why people are abused and others do nothing. Well we are taught that its none our business!
And to reciprocate your humility, I cant accept that there is no right to privacy in the constitution. Seems like the 9th leaves it as an un-enumerated right to the people. But I bet we could get bipartisan support for privacy in an explicit amendment. Even the libertarians would cheer.

You are the custodian of her Rights until she is 18. Period. You CANNOT have sex with your daughter until then. She can consent to have sex with as many other people she wants, but not you. There is no such thing in law as a "custodian of rights". She is of the age of consent.

Excellent points well said. These points are not being addressed and the history of this stuff in Kali and in Euro is very telling.

But look what happens in San Fran. Try living there. Big taxes. Poor state credit. And it's all due to them damn homasexuls.
To: VRWC_minion
There is no such thing in law as a "custodian of rights". She is of the age of consent. Obviously, you are having trouble coping with your desire to boink her, so I'll use smaller words.
She is not an adult.
You are her father. This means that legally, she is still your responsibility until she is 18.
This means, that adovacting, that means "sticking up for", her Rights is your responsibility.
This also means that legally, you can be held criminally responsible for the consequences of her actions.
Yes, she is old enough to engage in sex. But, you are her legal guardian until she is 18. This would be like an Army Sargent ordering a Private to blow him. Bad mojo.
Got it? Or do we just have to assume you are completely mentally deficient?

Oh man. You will bail out Cali, just like you did here in NYC with your federal taxes. Count on it.
I think the basis of authority for the us armed forces (not the 'military' as the effeminate culture likes to call it) rests in civilian authority.
The generals did not like THE HILLARY! pusing dont ask dont tell.
I am very sympathetic to your much of you what your sentiments.
Understand the Pathology that we see being created here. You may agree with us, but at least acknowledge what could happen. The pathology may not happen, but this would be a reversal of the last 30 years in continually defining deviancy down.

Well, I hope very much that you're a young person and are alive and well in forty years to see the final consequences of all this. You'll see the short term consequences (demand for still more laws to suppress opposition to homosexuality) soon enough. In the meantime, look across the ocean to the "sexually libertine but not very free" European Union for a glimpse at our future.
And no, increased problems for socialized medicine won't lead to government getting out of the socialized medicine business.
Unless and until libertarians stop being manipulated by "liberals" into supporting big government as a way of limiting small government, we'll continue down this same path.
To: tdadams
Not per se. ITs a small component of an overall pathology.

I hate fighting with people I agree with so much. Its like clockwerk orange where the government takes over everything to give people 'rights'.
Thats what kills me. Its not like we are argueing with DUers here.
