Which State is the Armpit of America?
Arthur Wildfire! March

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.

They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.

Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?

Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.

Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

Hands down-New Jersey
Their political corruption is legendary.
Their State Police look like cheap storm troopers in an opera.
They've been the garbage dump for New York for decades.

San Fran is the sodomite armpit of America.

San Francisco is a beautiful city infested with all the human detritus of the other 49 states.

In case you didn't know, Joe Hadenuf and I are the self appointed defenders fighting the bad rap California gets around here.

I'll join you in that cause. But there is a big advantage to having everyone think California is Satan's Compost Heap - they'll stay home! We need to spread the word in Mexico, now...

Cold, remote, isolated, lack of good food.

They say that between Nebraska and Wyoming, there is one woman somewhere who knows how to burn a steak, but she is a full-time housewife and lays low. Colorado not much better.

I hear the same thing about Bend Oregon. Conservative, beautiful, Cascade mountains on one side, high desert on the other, with a river running through it.

And if you aren't into skiing (slap, slap) it is renowned for its golf courses as well. Good spot as a hub for fishing and hunting. And if you're a woman: My wife says it has the best shopping in the Northwest short of a huge city.

We hear the same thing. Did our homework. Been there several times. If we ever relocate, it's on the top of our list......

I'm not sure which state is the armpit of America, but it is widely accepted that Johnstown, PA is the asshole of the world!

I haven't been to a lot of rural areas in Alabama, but I am not surprised, especially given the time period. Among the ignorant folk, some are confined to the older generation who felt that "book-learnin" was a waste of time (I believe because they were born and bred to work on the farm in order to keep the family from destitution; also, the Great Depression had a lot of influence on their attitude). Also, you will find this anywhere, but there are people who have an animosity, for whatever reason, towards anyone who they do not know. I don't think that any particular state has a monopoly on this.

How did it come about that homosexuals began flocking to San Francisco? Did it begin in the 60s with all the hippies?

sorry, no room to list all the woes of the police state in which I live... we'd be here all day. Gads..if there were just some way to remove all the liberals, it would be heaven..because it's actually a beautiful place, natural beauty wise.

I think it started in the late Fifties with the Beat Generation. That began the downhill slide, as every two-bit poet in the world came here. Allan Ginsberg was one of the first prominent homosexual "artists" here, and when his fellows around the country saw him speaking without being condemned by (excessively) tolerant San Franciscans, they decided to come, too.

I hear the Mississippi Tourism Board has just started a new ad campaign, featuring the phrase, "Mississippi - come feel better about your own state."

Say that again, and you'll have to eat a bowl of chittlin's.

Ted Kennedy

(Barney Frank)

organized crime figures

We have Bagdad Boxer and Swinestien, could be a push.

But CA did produce Ronald Reagan.

Maybe Mass. is a bigger armpit than CA!

Well, I guess I don't. May have been a bit too young, but I remember when the city of Tustin was orange groves and a smattering of houses.

Sigh.

Well, Delta's ready when you are son. And look how much money you'll save. You only have to buy a one way ticket. I vote Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Might not be armpits but I can honestly say I could count on one hand the number of nice folks I've actually met

Dover, NJ was once a nice place? Maybe you're being sarcastic and I'm just not getting it. Dover, NJ has for a while been the mecca for illegal immigrants in this area, but then again I'm not old enough to have seen Dover in the 60's

Kalifornia.

Visiting there is like seeing an automobile accident involving a beautiful woman. Damn what a shame!

Then again, Massachusetts is just as bad, only much smaller. Perhaps it is Kalifornia Concentrate. But I hate using the word concentrate in a state with Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy, Bob Kerry, Joe Kennedy, Gary Studds.....
