Which State is the Armpit of America?
Arthur Wildfire! March

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.

They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.

Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?

Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.

Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

Well I didn't experience any of that. The place is so tightly zoned however, that to the eye it is a sight to behold. For those who can afford it, and given the availability of high paying jobs around, I suspect it is a good place to live for those that need a paycheck, and have high value added skills. JMO.

In case you didn't know, Joe Hadenuf and I are the self appointed defenders fighting the bad rap California gets around here. I could have pointed out a few negative things about Alabama if I wanted to, I suppose, but I take no joy in running down another state. In fact, the only two things I have against Alabama are the travesty of "The Crimson Tide" being co-champs in '78 when SC beat them in there own crib, and the fact that the state produced my brother in law. Other than that, I'd never say a negative thing.

I don't believe NationsBank was ever based in Arkansas. It's North Carolina. And it's now called Bank of America after the merger.

Stephens Securities is based in Little Rock, huge investment broker and big Dem backers. Also, TCBY started in Little Rock.

Well yeah its a nice area, but it has flaws just like any other community. Did you live here or were you vacationing in the area? I hope you got to see some of the other towns in the area like Mendham, Chester, Basking Ridge & Bernardsville.

I was there on business. I was taking depositions. My cousin lives in Basking Ridge, and is a VP at Merck.

For all the problems you point out with California's economy it is still by far the largest contributor to Gross National Product. In fact just two states (The one I was born in and the one I moved to) contributed 21.5% of the entire GNP. Not bad for a couple of losers. Where does this place the rest of the states?

I'd have to say based on my perspective, the most decrepit looking state I've been in was Connecticut. Now I know there are nice parts to it, very wealthy parts in fact, but I once got lost in Hartford. ;)

CT looks like a state that overdosed on liberalism, taxes and "All Things Considered". A mess, in other words.

Your post sucks. Just my opinion. This is exactly the kind of thing this site doesn't need: vitriolic emotive regurgitations that are overgeneralized and without nuance or much thought, and devoid of anything constructive. Have a good evening.
