Ted Cruz on Sunday refused to address how he would handle the millions of undocumented immigrants already living in the country, despite hammering Marco Rubio this weekend for previously supporting a path to citizenship. Cruz refused to take off the table his own support of a potential path to legal status despite his cries against "amnesty."
"Let's demonstrate we can stop illegal immigration, we can protect our national security interests, we can protect our law enforcement interests," Cruz said after a campaign stop in Newton, Iowa. "Then once that's done, we can have a conversation at that point about whatever people remain here illegally."
Cruz has insisted the border must be secured before addressing proposals of how to deal with the millions of undocumented immigrants still living in the United States.

Ike did it. Not as hard as it sounds! Might even be fun too.
Correct.
I'm not convinced he isn't still all-in for INCREASED H1B Visas. I don't like that he was played so badly on the trade deal with Obama. And has he actually ever said he'll deport invaders? And then there's those ubiquitous emails, phone calls, and letters begging for more money....
I think most of us FR folk like Cruz. But you know what? This stuff is piling up.
I think we're advocating deportation of every single illegal alien and requiring that if they want to come back, they come back through a legal process.
The superiority of that over blanket amnesty--- or, rather, Cruz won't even tell you what he wants to do-- is obvious.
And has for years.
He will not deport anyone besides criminals, everyone else will receive legal status...but not citizenship.
That's reserved for their kids...or the next court decision.
Prove it.
Don't make excuses for Ted. This is America, dammit. We can chew gum and walk at the same time.
Cease giving ALL welfare benefits to illegal aliens
Begin prosecuting ALL those who employ illegals
Deport ALL illegal aliens upon contact with law enforcement
And do ALL that while building the fence.
THAT'S what Ted should have said.
I like Cruz, but he has been partially purchased by the Chamber of Commerce.Robert Mercer, one of the largest contributors to the Keep the Promise SuperPAC supporting Ted Cruz, has been the target of radical, pro-illegal immigration activists. Mercer has contributed $11 million. Evidently, Mercer doesn't believe Cruz is beholden to any group soft on illegal immigration.
"A demonstration was outside the offices of an American citizen, Robert Mercer, who supports our U.S. Immigration Laws and the Candidates who support keeping our borders safe. However, these Illegal trespassers and their Marxist-Leftist-Union handlers want NO U.S. immigration laws -- for them --and Robert Mercer is 'the Enemy'."If you're curious, some of the other major contributors to the SuperPAC are named here: PAC Built by Ted Cruz Mega-Donors Gets Evangelical LeaderTrespassers 'Say NO' U.S. Immigration Laws-For them (NYC) 7-10-15"
Here is a comparison between the Trump and Cruz plans on immigration. For the record, I'm not supporting any candidate, but I am opposed to Trump. I would support any proven conservative first of which the only two left besides Cruz are Jindal and Santorum (who is shaky there).
Donald Trump's plan IS an amnesty in that he wants an expedited system for "the good ones" to come right back in, and he says he wants them, leaving us with exactly the demographic Democrat bonanza we all oppose. Cruz says he will enforce the law. The existing law is not the problem. Enforcing it is.
They think it's the easy way to win votes. Hispanic politicians are actually loyal to money and power, not to their race.
Trump can walk and chew gum at the same time. Both can be done simultaneously. I don’t trust Cruz on this issue. I just don’t.
By default anyone who entered this country illegally is a criminal as it is a violation of our laws.
If they are in the country illegally, they have broken our laws—and should not be granted legalization here—with or without a “touch-back” visit back home.
I don’t like this...
Totally correct. We could start effective southern border security next week if we had a president who wanted to accomplish it. Move the BP back to the border and supplement with National Guards troops and we could end probably 75% - 80% of the illegal crossings. Then build a fence and other measures to take it to around 98%.
And start enforcing all immigration laws on day one of a new presidency, as much as current personnel levels can accomplish. Then add more BP./
Me neither.
I read Ted's immigration paper. His position on deportation of illegals wasn't all that cut and dried to me.
Perhaps I didn't read carefully enough, but why couldn't Ted have been clearer in this interview, if that's truly his position?
If he can't back up his own plan in his public statements, perhaps they're just words on a piece of paper, signifying nothing.
However, falsely working here is a crime.
Exactly. I really expected better than this from Ted.
